Synthesis and Electrochemical Characteristics of Spherical Li4Ti5O12/CNT Composite Materials for Hybrid Capacitors

  • Spherical Li4Ti5O12 and Li4Ti5O12 carbon nanotube (CNT) composites were synthesized using a colloid system. The electrochemical properties of the composites were thoroughly examined to determine their applicability as hybrid capacitor anodes. The electrical conductivity of the spherical Li4Ti5O12-CNT composite was improved over that of the spherical Li4Ti5O12 composite. The synthesized composites were utilized as the anode of a hybrid capacitor, which was assembled with an activated carbon (AC) positive electrode. The CNTs attached on the spherical Li4Ti5O12 particles contributed to a 51% reduction of the equivalent series of resistance of the Li4Ti5O12-CNTs/AC hybrid capacitor compared to the Li4Ti5O12/AC hybrid capacitor. Moreover, the Li4Ti5O12-CNTs/AC hybrid capacitor showed a larger capacitance than the Li4Ti5O12/AC hybrid capacitor; specifically, the Li4Ti5O12-CNT/AC hybrid capacitor showed 1.6 times greater capacitance at 40 cycles with a 10 mA cm−2 loading current density.

  • We propose pulsed $CO_2$ laser below 30W by the AC(60Hz) switching control of leakage transformer primary which has some advantage of cost and size compared to a typical pulsed power supply. Pulse repetition rate is adjusted from 5Hz to 60Hz to control laser output. In this laser, a low voltage open loop control for high voltage discharge circuit is employed to avoid the HV sampling or switching and high voltage leakage transformer is used to convert rectified low voltage pulse to high voltage one. A ZCS(Zero Cross Switch) circuit and a PIC one-chip microprocessor are used to control gate signal of SCR precisely. The pulse repetition rate is limited by 60Hz due to the frequency of AC line and a high leakage inductance. The maximum laser output was obtained about 23W at pulse repetition rate of 60Hz, total gas mixture of $CO_{2}/N_{2}$/He = 1/9/15, SCR gate trigger angle 90$^{\circ}$, and total pressure of 18Torr.

  • AC-PDP를 위한 단일 서스테인 구동회로로서 단극성 전원을 이용하여 양극성 서스테인 파형을 출력할 수 있는 새로운 단일 전원 단일 에너지 회수 서스테인 구동회로를 제안한다. 제안하는 회로는 회로 구성이 간단하면서도 전원 공급 장치의 추가 부담 없이 단극성 전원장치를 그대로 사용하여 가스 방전 유지 전압 크기의 양전압 및 음전압의 양극성 파형을 생성할 수 있다. 또한 에너지 회수 회로를 이용하여 플로팅 캐패시터를 충전시키기 때문에 충전 돌입 전류가 발생하지 알아 스위치의 전류 스트레스를 줄일 수 있는 특징이 있다.

A Study on the Adjusting Output Energy of the $CO_2$ Laser Controlled Directly in AC Power Line

  • We demonstrate a simple $CO_2$ laser by controlling firing angle of a TRIAC switch in ac power line. The power supply for our laser system switches the voltage of the AC power line (60Hz) directly. The power supply does not need elements such as a rectifier bridge, energy-storage capacitors, or a current-limiting resistor in the discharge circuit. In order to control the laser output power, the pulse repetition rate is adjusted up to 60Hz and the firing angle of TRIAC gate is varied from $45^{circ}$ to $135^{circ}$. A ZCS(Zero Crossing Switch) circuit and a PIC one-chip microprocessor are used to control the gate signal of the TRIAC precisely. The maximum laser output of 40W is obtained at a total pressure of 18 Torr, a pulse repetition rate of 60Hz, and a TRAIC gate firing angle of $90^{circ}$.

  • Recently, damages of electronic equipments due to lightning surges coming from AC power lines are increasing. In this work, to propose the effective installation methods of surge protective devices(SPDs), the protective performances of SPDs in actual-sized test circuits were experimentally investigated. In order to obtain the lowest limiting voltage and best protection, long leads of SPDs in installation practices are significantly undesirable. An effective installation method of SPDs for AC mains was proposed. The way of installing SPDs at every branch circuits is more effective than that of installing a SPD near the point of entry.

  • A conventional PI controller does not provide a proper response in face of various kinds of load variation. In this paper, three types of fuzzy-PI hybrid control scheme are proposed in order to improve the performance of the PI controller. The proposed control schemes are applied to the speed controller of AC servo motor systems. The effectiveness of the proposed methods is shown by computer simulation and the advantage of each control scheme is discussed.

  • The emergency AC power supply system of the nuclear power plant is designed to supply the power to the nuclear power plant at the emergency operating condition. The safety function of the diesel generator at the nuclear power plant is to supply AC electric power to the safety system whenever the preferred AC power supply is unavailable. The reliable operation of onsite standby diesel generator should be ensured by a condition monitoring system designed to maintain, monitor and forecast the reliability level of diesel generator. The purpose of this paper is to improve the existing ultrasonic sensor used for condition diagnosis of engine fuel pump and cylinder head for the accurate diagnosis in actual engine condition of emergency diesel generator(EDG). As a result of this study, we could design and develop much more reliable ultrasonic sensor than existing ones.

  • The HVAC(Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning) system is only controlled by turn on/turn off operations against to AC 380V input. Therefore, the efficiency of the system is reduced and noise occurs. Also, the blower is shut down at the AC power failure. In this paper, the inverter system with UPS function for the A/C(Air Conditioning) blower is proposed. Proposed inverter system which is powered from the AC and DC voltage can control speed, operation mode, and soft-start time using CAN communication. In case of the CAN communication failure, RS-232 communication could be used to control the hardware directly by the engineer that can solve existing problems. To verify the validity of proposed inverter system, simulations and experiments are carried out.

  • A highly efficient single-phase/three-phase compatible ac-to-dc converter is proposed and analyzed, which includes three identical single-phase both soft-switched dc-to-dc converter with boost converter as a pre-regulator for input power factor correction (PFC). The proposed converter structure provides a cost reduction and easy implementation of compatibility between single-phase 220V and three-phase 220V/380V with their inputs in delta or wye connections.

  • A novel mode of parallel operation of a modular 3-phase AC-DC flyback converter for power factor correction along with tight regulation was recently analyzed and presented. The advantage of the proposed converter does not require expensive high voltage and high current devices that are normally needed in popular boost type 3-phase converter. In this paper the detailed small signal analysis of the modular 3-phase AC-DC flyback converter is provided for control purposes and also experimental results are included to confirm the validity of the analysis.
