  • The purposes of this study are to analyze the meanings of urban spaces which are the background of the Korean films, and to capture the interactions of ordinary culture and urban spaces. By reading urban spaces through films, it is possible to understand the variety of experiences that are hardly captured with direct eyes, specific and vivid urban images, and various events formed by the interactions of spaces and people. The scope of the study is the urban spaces revealed in Korean films portraying cities after the 1960's as their settings, and the total of 18 films was selected with every $4{\sim}5$ films for each time stage. With the selected films, analytical meanings were developed with considering three aspects; 1) phylogenetic meaning that simply reflects social-cultural and historical background, 2) the outer strum meaning that concerns the situation of special background and film scene, and 3) metaphorical and metanymic meaning on films. According to the appearance frequency, spatial backgrounds of film scenes are mainly alleys, main streets, railroad, loft, and riverside. And then the connection between spaces and meaning clusters was grasped, and reflected meanings were derived for every spaces. And the meaning of urban space in films was analyzed based on the meaning of developments and outer stratum. The fundamental characteristics and feelings of people in media such as films are more emphasized than in real world. Urban space is not considered as a simple visible shell, but is recognized as 'a real situation' created by people. The intension of this study was to open the possibility of the various views of urban spaces. The construction of the urban space should be approached from a perspective of creating new places at where the space and human beings interact with considerations of stories of various human lives. I hope new vistas can be opened up for the research subjects and methodologies about the hereafter study of urban spaces through the mutual communications with various adjacent regions including films.

  • VLIW architecture has emerged as one of the most effective architectures in dealing with multimedia applications. In multimedia applications, there is ample potential for parallelizing the execution of multiple operations because such applications typically have data intensive processing which often has limited data and/or control dependencies. As the degree of instruction-level parallelism increases, non-clustered VLIW architectures scale poorly because of the tremendous register port pressure. Therefore, clustered VLIW architecture is definitely preferred over non-clustered VLIW architecture when a higher degree of parallelizing is possible as in the case of multimedia processing However, having multiple clusters in an architecture implies that the amount of hardware is quite large, and therefore, power consumption becomes a very crucial issue. In this paper, we propose an algorithm to minimize the peak power consumption without incurring little or no delay penalty. The effectiveness of our algorithm has been verified by various sets of experiments, and up to 30.7% reduction in the peak power consumption is observed compared with the results that is optimized to minimize resources only.

  • Tricholoma matsutake (Pinus mushroom, PM) is one of the most valued ectomycorrhizal fungi in Asia because it is an expensive forest product with a unique flavor and taste. Therefore, many studies have tried to successfully cultivate Tricholoma matsutake artificially in Korea and other countries. However, its physiological and ecological characteristics are still unknown. Thus, we need to understand the diversity and clusters of microorganisms related to Tricholoma matsutake and to identify their core microorganisms related to their growth and production. In this study, we obtained an average of 11,661 fragments from three pine mushrooms with metagenome (an assemblage of genes of all microorganisms in the natural world) analysis from a pine forest located in Pohang, Gyeongsang-Bukdo. Of these, the valid reads were on average 5,073 per sample available for analysis, and the average length of a read was 456 bp. There were an average of 33.3 phyla in the metagenome analysis. Firmicutes phylum made up on an average 46% of the phyla and was dominant among the phyla. The next dominant phylum was Proteobacteria at 27% followed by Bacteroidetes at 17%, Actinobacteria at 5% and Verrucomicrobia at 2%. The Proteobacteria phylum consisted of the γ-proteobacteria class at 54% followed by β-proteobacteria at 37%, α-proteobacteria at 6%, δ-proteobacteria at 2% and ζ-proteobacteria at 0%. The metagenome consisted of the Ruminococcaceae family at 17% followed by Pseudomonadaceae at 13%, Burkholderiaceae at 7%, Bacteroidaceae at 7%, Lachnospiraceae at 7% and Clostridiaceae at 6%.

  • In this paper, we propose a world's first programmable video processing platform for video quality enhancement of 8K ($7680{\times}4320$) UHD (Ultra High Definition) TV at 60 frames per second. To support huge computation and memory bandwidth of video quality enhancement for 8K resolution, the proposed platform has unique features like symmetric multi-cluster architecture for data partitioning, ring data-path between clusters to support data pipelining, on-the-fly processing architecture to reduce DDR bandwidth, flexible hardware to accelerating common kernel in video enhancement algorithms. In addition to those features, general programmability of SRP (Samsung reconfigurable processor) as main core of the proposed platform makes it possible to upgrade continuously video enhancement algorithm even after the platform is fixed. This ability is very important because algorithms for 8K DTV is under development. The proposed sub-system has been embedded into SoC (System on Chip) and new 8K UHD TV using the programmable SoC is expected at CES2015 for the first time in the world.

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the water pollution degree in the Mid-Nakdong River watershed regarding to landcover types using GIS method. As a result of landcover classification, rate of urban appeared highly on Daegu Metropolitan city. Also, rate of agriculture showed highly in the riparian zones of the Nakdong and Guemho River and rate of forest appeared highly in the borders of the study area. To identify the groups of watershed with similar landcover patterns using the Cluster Analysis. According to the cluster analysis, the fifty sub-watersheds were grouped in three clusters, 'Urban watershed', 'Agriculture watershed', 'Forest watershed'. The proportion of urban area in each cluster had a positive correlation with water pollution degree. Otherwise, the proportion of agriculture in the Agriculture watershed had a high positive correlation with water pollution degree. Therefore, it is necessary to estimate environmental capacity of water duality considering ecological and environmental characteristics of watershed ecosystem and expand water duality monitoring systems to small stream.

  • Among non-timber forest products, Tricholoma matsutake is a high value added item. Many countries, including Korea, China, and Japan, are doing research and technology development to increase artificial cultivation and productivity. However, the production of T. matsutake is on the decline due to global warming, abnormal temperatures and pine tree pest problems. Therefore, it is necessary to identify trends in domestic and foreign research on T. matsutake, respond to preemptive research and development to preserve the genetic resources of T. matsutake and increase its productivity. Based on the correlation between keywords in the high frequency keywords, it was observed that microbial clusters of T. matsutake are mainly found in Korea. The main focus in China has been the pharmacology studies on the ingredients of T. matsutake. The main focus in Japan has been on preserving the genetic diversity and species of T. matsutake. Thus, future domestic studies of T. matsutake will require pharmacological studies on the ingredients of T. matsutake and on its genetic diversity and species conservation. In addition, unlike China and Japan, genetic keywords did not appear in Korea at high frequency. Therefore, Korea will have to proceed with research using modern molecular biology techniques.

  • The advanced driver assistant system (ADAS) requires the collection of a large amount of information including road conditions, environment, vehicle status, condition of the driver, and other useful data. In this regard, large-scale sensor networks can be an appropriate solution since they have been designed for this purpose. Recent advances in sensor network technology have enabled the management and monitoring of large-scale tasks such as the monitoring of road surface temperature on a highway. In this paper, we consider the estimation and fusion problems of the large-scale sensor networks used in the ADAS. Hierarchical fusion architecture is proposed for an arbitrary topology of the large-scale sensor network. A robust cluster estimator is proposed to achieve robustness of the network against outliers or failure of sensors. Lastly, a robust hierarchical data fusion scheme is proposed for the communication channel between the clusters and fusion center, considering the non-Gaussian channel noise, which is typical in communication systems.

  • The objectives of this work are to present the dynamic simulation strategy based on cluster-modular approach and to develop a prototype simulator. In addition, methods for the improvement of computational efficiency and applicability are studied. A process can be decomposed into several clusters which consist of strongly coupled units depending upon the process dynamics or topology. The combined approach of simultaneous and sequential simulation based on the cluster structure is implemented within the developed dynamic process simulator, MOSA(Multi Objective Simulation Architecture). Dynamic simulation for a utility plant is presented as a case study in order to prove the efficiency and flexibility of MOSA.

  • This paper introduces a new distributed QoS (Quality of Service) control system for clusters of web servers. The proposed system can employ not only network bandwidth but also other metrics such as processor load, memory usage, and storage access load that affect the overall system performance. Moreover, it controls over clustered\ulcorner workstations in of-der to utilize idle resources among workstations. This architecture maximizes overall usage of cluster of web servers while it provides predictable and differentiated performance for each contents volume. We implemented a prototype of introduced system, and the test results showed the proposed method can control QoS in a cluster server system.

  • Environmental quality(EQ) is one of the most important components of the assessment of "Quality of Life(QOL)". Most EQ related research dealt with overall built environmental quality issues as represented by several clusters of factors related to occupants' satisfaction. This paper aims to identify and understand the theoretical background and the occupants' comparative standards of response to conditions of the built environment related to environmental quality(EQ). Therefore, this paper have reviewed the theoretical framework and empirical research for environmental quality in built environment. the concept of environmental quality if elaborated from diverse perspectives. Different ways of interpreting environmental quality have led to a variety of ways to conduct evaluations. A review of the theories and methods used for the analysis of perceived environmental quality provides a strong foundation for new research frameworks and environmental quality in built environment.
