  • This study was conducted to estimate climax index by eco-morphology for major 36 tree and sub-tree species in natural deciduous forests so as to interpret seral position of each species in the forest community. Fourteen eco-morphological characters which were considered to be associated with successional gradient in the forest were selected for the study. Four levels per character for each species were given on a standardized scale of increasing climax, and the index was computed by the proportion of the sum of total scores, expressed by percent values. With calculated mean value of 54.8 for all indices, Carpinus cordata had the highest index value of 90.5, and Populus davidiana recorded the lowest of 13.2. The most climax group, greater than 70 of the index, contained only 8 species, intermediate group, between 41 to 70 of the index, had 23 species, and the most pioneer group, less than 40 of the index comprised 5 species. The result has noticed that the large number of species would take advantage of most diverse resource and niche in the intermediate stage of the sere in the forest. By cluster analysis all 36 species were subjected to be classified into several species groups which had common similar eco-morphological characteristics. The indices were additionally plotted on the two dimensional graph to recognize the positions related to the light absorption factor and reproduction factor. The climax index of tree and sub-tree species developed by this study could be applied to understand the present status of successional stage on the basis of species composition by the method of summing up the indices. And comparison of forest successional stage among various forest communities could be done by summing up the climax indices of composed species in each community. However, this kind of applied methodology should be limited to the forest of similar species composition and site condition.

  • On the basis of vegetation data by point quarter sampling method, the natural forest of Jirisan(Mt.) was classified into eight forest types by cluster analysis. They were Quercus mogolica forest type, Fraxinus mandshurica - Betula costata forest type, Mixed mesophytic forest type, Abies koreana forest type, Carpinus laxiflora forest type, Quercus serrata forest type, Pinus densiflora forest type, and Quercus variabilis forest type. Then, succession index was estimated for each forest type so as to evaluate succession process comparatively among forest types. The results showed that Carpinus laxiflora forest type had highest succession index of 219.7, followed by Mixed mesophytic forest type with little difference of the index of 218.3. Pinus densiflora forest type had lowest index. Succession indices were hardly correlated with species diversity indices of forest types. We presumed that the higher value of succession index a forest type had, the closer toward the climax forest. However, the estimated index was not supposed to be absolute level of successional stage, but it could play a role of comparative assessment in the position of the seral stage among forest types.

  • This study was conducted to analyze the effect of climate change on the tree-ring growth of Pinus koraiensis in Korea. Annual tree-ring growth data of P. koraiensis collected by the $5^{th}$ National Forest Inventory were first organized to analyze yearly growth patterns of the species. When tree-ring growth data were analyzed through cluster analysis based on similarity of climatic conditions, five clusters were identified. Yearly growing degree days and standard precipitation index based on daily mean temperature and precipitation data from 1951 to 2010 were calculated by cluster. Using the information, yearly temperature effect index(TEI) and precipitation effect index(PEI) by cluster were estimated to analyze the effect of climatic conditions on the growth of the species. Tree-ring growth estimation equations by cluster were developed by using the product of yearly TEI and PEI as independent variable. The tree-ring growth estimation equations were applied to the climate change scenarios of RCP 4.5 and RCP 8.5 for predicting the changes in tree-ring growth by cluster of P. koraiensis from 2011 to 2100. The results of this study are expected to provide valuable information necessary for estimating local growth characteristics of P. koraiensis and for predicting changes in tree-ring growth patterns caused by climate change.

  • We present structural parameters of galaxies in the Extended Viro Cluster Catalog (EVCC), new catalog of galaxies in the Viro cluster using homogeneous Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) Date Release 7 (DR7) data. The EVCC covers more extended region of the Viro cluster than of the Virgo Cluster Catalog (VCC) and presents updated morphologies of galaxies using multi-band images and spectral features. We obtain the surface brightness profiles of galaxies using ellipse task in IRAF. Based on the analysis of surface brightness profile we construct a catalog of various structural parameters of galaxies, i.e. central surface brightness, effective radius, sersic index, effective surface brightness, and mean effective surface brightness. Taking advantage of these structural parameters in various parameter spaces, we refine criteria of dividing giant elliptical and dwarf elliptical galaxies. In addition, we found that bulge dominated galaxies have larger sersic index and brighter central surface brightness than disk dominated galaxies. At fixed magnitude, dwarf elliptical galaxies dwarf lenticular galaxies, and dwarf irregular low surface brightness (LSB) galaxies show larger effective radii than giant elliptical galaxies, giant lenticular galaxies, and irregular high surface brightness (HSB) galaxies, respectively. Dwarf elliptical galaxies and dwarf irregular LSB galaxies occupy the similar structural parameter spaces. We suggest that giant elliptical galaxies and dwarf elliptical galaxies may have different origin.

  • Because reservoirs that supply irrigation water play an important role in water resource management, it is necessary to evaluate the vulnerability of this particular water supply resource. The purpose of this study is to provide water supply risk maps of agricultural reservoirs in South Korea using irrigation vulnerability model and cluster analysis. To quantify water supply risk, irrigation vulnerability indices are estimated to evaluate the performance of the water supply on the agricultural reservoir system using a probability theory and reliability analysis. First, the irrigation vulnerability probabilities of 1,346 reservoirs managed by Korea Rural Community Corporation (KRC) were analyzed using meteorological data on 54 meteorological stations over the past 30 years (1981-2010). Second, using the K-mean method of non-hierarchical cluster analysis and pre-simulation approach, cluster analysis was applied to classify into three groups for characterizing irrigation vulnerability in reservoirs. The morphology index, watershed area, irrigated area, and ratio between watershed and irrigated area are selected as the clustering analysis parameters. It is suggested that the water supply risk map be utilized as a basis for the establishment of risk management measures, and could provide effective information for a reasonable decision making on drought risk mitigation.

  • Sampling of the ground beetles in four 'gotjawal' terrains of Jeju island was conducted from April to October, 2007, using pit-fall trap. Totally 2,887 individuals of 23 species belonged to 4 families were collected. The species diversity index was the highest at Aeweol gotjawal (AW), while it was the lowest in Hangyeong-Andeog gotjawal (HA). Clustering analysis revealed that the insect communities of four gotzawals were grouped in only one cluster. Jocheon-Hamdeog gotjawal (JH) formed a cluster with Gujwa-Sungsan gotjawal (GS) at the lowest chord distance (0.24). At the higher chord distance of 0.50, AW fused the cluster of JH and GS. HA fused with the rest three terrains, forming a single cluster at the highest chord distance of 0.98.

  • In this paper, we propose a technique to analyze similarity between SQL queries and to assist integrating similar tables. First, the table information was extracted from the SQL queries through the query structure analyzer, and the similarity between the tables was measured using the Jacquard index technique. Then, similar table clusters are generated through hierarchical cluster analysis method and the co-occurence probability of the table used in the query is calculated. The possibility of integrating similar tables is classified by using the possibility of co-occurence of similarity table and table, and classifying them into an integrable cluster, a cluster requiring expert review, and a cluster with low integration possibility. This technique analyzes the SQL query in practice and analyse the possibility of table integration independent of the existing business, so that the existing schema can be effectively reconstructed without interruption of work or additional cost.

  • Based on the analysis of ecomorphological characters for 84 tree and shrub species, climax indices were estimated so as to interpret the position of the successional sere for the species in the natural deciduous forest. Nineteen ecomorphological characters, considered to be associated with successional gradient in the forest, were selected for the study. One of 2 to 4 steps per character for each species was given on a standardized scale of increasing climaxness, and the index was computed by percent of the sum of the scoring values for total score. Calculated mean value of 54.2 for all indices. Carpinus laxiflora had the highest index value of 83.3, and Populus davidiana recorded the lowest of 18.8. The most climax group, greater than 70 of the index, contained only 9 species, intermediate group, between 40 to 70 of the index, had 58 species, and the most pioneer group, less than 40 of the index comprised 17 species. The result has noticed that the large number of species would take advantage of most diverse resource and niche in the intermediate stage of the sere in the forest. The three components, i.e., light absorption, reproduction, and wood quality were used as axes for a 3-dimensional projection of the relative position for 44 species by principal component analysis. Along the similar ecomorphological characters, four recognized species group were classified by cluster analysis. The distribution pattern of plant families on the index gradient showed that the Betulaceae and Aceraceae had the widest seral amplitude, and the Salicaceae was a family typified as pioneer. There were no families specializing entirely with climax niche.

  • 'Hei' (Lycopersicon Esculentum Mill.) Black Tomato examined changes in fruit shape, fruit weight and cracking percentage with increasing temperature in high-rise tomato greenhouse during long-term cultivation in summer season. Fruit diameter is greater than fruit length from the first cluster to the ninth cluster. However, fruit length is longer than fruit diameter from the tenth cluster to the fifteenth cluster. Fruit shape index (L/D) is below 100% from the first cluster to the ninth cluster and above 100% from the tenth cluster to the fifteenth cluster. Fruit weight was decreased during temperature increasing in greenhouse. However, fruit cracking percentage was increased to temperature increasing during cultivation period. Thus, fruit shape, fruit weight and fruit cracking of 'Hei' black tomato were influenced by increasing of temperature in greenhouse during long-term cultivation.

  • This study classified and analyzed characteristics of residents in public rental housing based on data from the 2018 Housing Survey. First, in order to classify the type of public rental housing resident, the criteria were derived through factor analysis based on the satisfaction evaluation index. Next, based on the factor value, the group was classified by type through cluster analysis, and the satisfaction, characteristics of residential households, and characteristics of rental housing types were analyzed for each cluster. As a result of factor analysis, evaluation of housing facilities, accessibility, and residential comfort was selected as the cluster classification criteria, and a total of four clusters were derived through cluster analysis. As a result of analyzing the characteristics of each cluster, it was found that there was a statistically significant difference in the level of residential satisfaction, characteristics of residents, and detailed types of rental housing. The results of this analysis are expected to be used to improve existing public rental housing or develop new types of rental housing to match the characteristics of residential housing for public rental housing. In addition, in the type integration of rental housing currently being promoted, it is necessary to develop a method of providing differentiated services in consideration of the characteristics of tenants as well as the integration of physical housing types.
