전이금속산화물 클러스터의 자기구조 및 자기이방성에너지 계산 (The Magnetic Structure and Magnetic Anisotropy Energy Calculations for Transition Metal Mono-oxide Clusters)

  • 정육면체 전이금속 산화물 FeO, MnO의 자기적 상호작용을 제1원리의 범밀도함수법을 이용하여 계산하였다. 그 결과, 모두 초교환작용으로 인해 반강자성적 상호작용이 가장 낮은 에너지를 가지고 있었다. 자기이방성은 반강자성 스핀 배열의 FeO 클러스터에서만 발견되었다. 그 원인은 <111> 방향으로 각운동량을 가지는 3d down-spin 전자의 스핀-궤도 결합에 기인하였다.

Role of environment in the origin of early-type dwarf galaxies

  • Role of environments is one of today's most widely discussed and debated topic in the field of extra-galactic astronomy. Extreme morphology-density relations found in low-mass galaxies are considered to be the result of an effective role played by environment in the evolution of these galaxies. I will present the results from our dedicated study of early-type dwarf galaxies (dEs) in different environments using imaging and spectroscopic data. We find that Virgo cluster dEs have a variety of structural and kinematic properties. A significant fraction of dEs possesses disk features, such as spiral arm and bar, while a central nucleus seems to be universal in these low mass galaxies. We also find that a majority of dEs are fast rotator and their rotation curves are much steeper than that of spiral galaxies of similar mass. Finally I will discuss how the different environmental mechanisms, i.e., gas-stripping or tidal interaction, can contribute to form heterogeneous dEs in Virgo cluster.

Understanding our Universe with the REFLEX II cluster survey

  • Clusters of galaxies provide unique laboratories to study astrophysical processes on large scales, and are also important probes for cosmology. X-ray observations are still the best way to find and characterise clusters. The extended ROSAT-ESO flux-limited X-ray (REFLEX II) galaxy clusters form currently the largest well-defined and tested X-ray galaxy cluster sample, providing a census of the large-scale structure of the Universe out to redshifts of z-0.4. I will describe the properties of the survey and the X-ray luminosity function, which led to our recent cosmological constraints on omegaM-sigma8. They tighten the previous constraints from other X-ray experiments, showing good agreements with those from the Planck clusters, but some tension exists with the Planck CMB constraints. The second part of my talk will concern the structure of the local Universe, and the study of the first X-ray superclusters. The density of the clusters reveals an under-dense region in the nearby Universe, which has an interesting implication for the cosmological parameters. Using the X-ray superclusters, that are constructed with a physically motivated procedure, I will show environmental aspects that X-ray superclusters provide, and compare to cosmological N-body simulations.

  • The Automated Eichner Iris Photometer(AEIP) at the Korea Basic Science Center was tested for its function and the proper procedure for photographic photometry. The AEIP requires about three hours for reaching the electrical stability. When the iris is controlled automatically, the repeatability of density unit (DU) is accurate in the uncertainty of ($0.0028{\sim}0.0048$)DU. The iris reading is found to be accurate within the mean error of $0.^{m}05$, which could be reduced to $0.^{m}02$ by the manual control. To check the applicability of the AEIP. each two photographic plates for UBV colors which were taken by Dupuy and Zukauskas(l976) for the open cluster Byur 2, were measured by using the AEIP. and the photographic magnitudes and colors of the stars in Byur 2 were determined. discussing the previous results.

  • Advances in hardware and wireless network technologies have placed us at the doorstep of a new era where small wireless devices will provide access to information anytime, anywhere as well as actively participate in creating smart environments. In this paper, we propose location-aware clustering method in wireless sensor networks. Previous clustering algorithm assumes that all nodes know its own location by GPS. But, it is unrealistic because of GPS module cost and large energy consumption. So, we operate localization ahead of cluster set-up phase. And Considering node density and geographic information, Cluster Heads are elected uniformly. Moreover, communication between CHs is prolonged network lifetime.

Testing Gravitational Weak-lensing Maps with Galaxy Redshift Surveys

  • A gravitational weak-lensing map provides a weighted "picture" of the projected surface mass density and is to be an important tool for identifying "mass-selected" clusters of galaxies. However, weak-lensing maps have a limitation due to the projection of large-sclae structure along the line-of-sight. Geller et al. (2010) and Kurtz et al. (2012) compared massive clusters identified in a dense redshift survey with significant weak-lensing map convergence peaks. Both assessments of the efficiency of weak-lensing map for cluster identification did not draw a general conclusion, because the sample is so small. Thus, we additionally perform deep imaging observations of fields in a dense galaxy redshift survey that contain galaxy clusters at z~0.2-0.5, using CFHT Megacam. Our study will provide an important opportunity to examine the efficiency and completeness of a weak-lensing selection, and further to improve the method of cluster identification in future weak-lensing surveys.

KVN PHASE REFERENCING OBSERVATIONS OF THE VIRGO CLUSTER

  • By probing nuclear regions and the overall properties of AGN hosts as a function of their environments, we aim to observationally examine how AGN activities are related to their surroundings. We have selected a representative sample of AGN hosts in the Virgo cluster. The selected galaxies are located in a range of density regions showing various morphologies in 1.4 GHz continuum emission. High-resolution observations with the Korean VLBI Network (KVN) allow us to access the inner region of the AGN without suffering from dust extinction and synchrotron self-absorption. Since a number of our targets are too weak to be detected at K-band (22 GHz) within their coherence time, we applied phase referencing to calibrate fast atmospheric phase fluctuations.

  • Weak gravitational lensing is an efficient technique for detecting galaxy clusters and probing their mass distribution. We present a weak gravitational lensing analysis of a large sample of galaxy clusters. We have built a nearly complete sample of 50 optically rich clusters, located in the redshift range 0.1 < z < 0.6 and observed in the Canada France Hawaii Telescope Legacy Survey (CFHT-LS). We used weak gravitational lensing to measure, for each galaxy cluster, the density radial profile, the total mass and the mass-to-light ratio (by comparing with the total luminosity of the member galaxies). This project is a preliminary step towards the next analysis of the weak lensing galaxy clusters in the surveys KiDS and VOICE, which are currently collecting data with the VLT Survey Telescope, in Chile.

Measuring the Environmental Quenching Timescales of Galaxy Clusters in the COSMOS field

  • Using 74 galaxy clusters in the COSMOS field at 0.1 < z < 1.2, we calculate the environmental quenching timescale, defined as the time required after a galaxy is accreted by a cluster for it to stop star formation. Cluster candidates are selected as the overdensities with the surface number density exceeding the 4-σ. With the "delayed-then-rapid" quenching model, we can successfully reproduce the separation of the galaxies(star-forming, intermediate, and quiescent) on the NUV-R - R-J color plane comparing with the BC03 evolutionary track. With the mass growth rate of halo mass and the ratio of categorized galaxies, we can constratin the environmental quenching timescale ~ 2Gyr at z ~ 1. We will present the result as a function of redshift and compare them with dynamical timescale and gas depletion timescale.

가스 클러스터 이온빔을 이용한 고체 표면 평탄화 및 식각에 대한 연구 (Solid surface smoothing and etching by gas cluster ion beam)

  • 150 kV급 가스 클러스터 이온 가속기를 제자하여 $CO_2$$N_2O$ 클러스터의 크기를 비행시간 측정법을 통하여 조사하였다. Isolated cluster ion impact를 통하여 클러스터 이온이 고체 표면과 충돌시 1nm 정도 놀이와 수십 nm 폭을 가지는 hillock을 형성시키는 것을 원자간 척력 현미경으로 관찰하였다. 또한 hillock이 존재하는 ITO 표면에 $CO_2$ 클러스터 이온을 조사하면 단원자 이온의 충돌시 보이는 sharpening 현상과는 다른 다중 충돌에 의한 sputtering 효과가 관찰되었으며, 25 kV의 가속 전압에서 $CO_2$ 클러스터 이온을 $5\times10^{-14}\textrm{cm}^2$ 만큼을 ITO 표면에 조사시킨 경우에는 표면이 평탄화되었다. 또한 표면 거칠기가 0.3 nm 정도인 Si 기판 위에 $CO_2$ 클러스터 이온을 조사하면서 이온 조사량에 따른 표면 형상 및 거칠기의 변화를 조사하였다. $10^{12}\textrm{cm}^2$ 이하의 낮은 이온 조사량에서는 hillock들의 형성과 그 밀도의 증가로 표면의 거칠기가 증가하는 surface embossment 현상이 지배적으로 이루어졌으며, 형성된 hillock의 면적과 비조사된 곳의 면적이 같아지는 임계 이온 조사량부터는 hillock이 스퍼터링되고 그 원자들의 표면확산에 따른 hillock 사이의 valley들이 채워지는 스퍼터링과 표면의 평탄화가 이루어지는 구간이 관찰되었고, 그 이후 더 높은 이온 조사량부터는 깊이 방향으로의 식각이 진행되는 연차적인 충돌과정이 관찰되었다.
