  • After M. Porter proposed the concept of industrial cluster, a lot of academic papers and industry surveys have suggested that industrial cluster is the key factor to competitive edge and long-term economic growth. Industrial cluster is often defined as geographical concentrations of interconnected entities in a particular industrial field. And the agglomeration economy is regarded the key factor of developing the industrial clusters. The industrial clusters often have been growing over the territory of local governments. Therefor, the institutes supporting the industrial clusters and the companies in great-sphere level is required. The purpose of this paper is for comparing and analysing the institutes supporting the industrial clusters and the companies in great-sphere level including various local governments. As the result of this research, four types of the cooperative industrial supporting systems among various local governments are divided: 1. inducing foreign direct investment into domestic area by regional development agency, 2. co-developing research parks or industrial parks by some local governments, 3. taking regional industrial statistics and writing development strategies over the boundary of the local governments, 4. constructing internet portal sites networking the local companies, universities, research centers of the same industrial cluster.

  • The increasing of web users load to the excessive transmission traffic and system overload problems. To solve these problems, cluster systems are studied. In conventional cluster systems, when the request size is large owing to such types as multimedia and CGI, the particular server load and response time tend to increase even if the overall loads are distributed evenly. In this paper, we consider the methodology of efficient resource usage, specially distributed web cluster system. We develope an algorithm that distributes the load on the web cluster system to use the system resources, such as system memory equally. The response time is chosen as a performance measure on the various clustering models. And based on the concurrent user to the web cluster system, the response time is also examined as the number of users increases. Simulation experience with this algorithm shows that the response time and average throughput seems to have a good results compare to those with the other algorithm.

  • It is extremely important to minimize network access time in constructing a high-performance PC cluster system. For PC cluster systems, it is possible to reduce network access time by maintaining network cache in each cluster node. This paper presents a Network Cache Coherent NUMA (NCC-NUMA) system to utilize network cache by locating shared memory on the PCI bus, and the NCC-NUMA card which is core module of the NCC-NUMA system is developed. The NCC-NUMA card is directly plugged into the PCI slot of each node, and contains shared memory, network cache, shared memory control module and network control module. The network cache is maintained for the shared memory on the PCI bus of cluster nodes. The coherency mechanism between the network cache and the shared memory is based on the IEEE SCI standard. According to the SPLASH-2 benchmark experiments, the NCC-NUMA system showed improvements of 56% compared with an SCI-based cluster without network cache.

  • Clustering is a method to classify the given data set with same property into several classes. To cluster data, many methods such as K-Means, Fuzzy C-Means(FCM), Mountain Method(MM), and etc, have been proposed and used. But the clustering results of conventional methods are sensitively influenced by initial values given for clustering in each method. Especially, FCM is very sensitive to noisy data, and cluster center distortion phenomenon is occurred because the method dose clustering through minimization of within-clusters variance. In this paper, we propose a clustering method which reduces cluster center distortion through merging the nearest data based on the data weight, and not being influenced by initial values. We show the effectiveness of the proposed through experimental results applied it to various types of data sets, and comparison of cluster centers with those of FCM.

  • Mitochondrial protein Nfu1 plays an important role in the assembly of mitochondrial Fe-S clusters and intracellular iron homeostasis in the model yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae. In this study, we identified the Nfu1 ortholog in the human fungal pathogen Cryptococcus neoformans. Our data showed that C. neoformans Nfu1 localized in the mitochondria and influenced homeostasis of essential metals such as iron, copper and manganese. Marked growth defects were observed in the mutant lacking NFU1, which suggests a critical role of Nfu1 in Fe-S cluster biosynthesis and intracellular metal homeostasis in C. neoformans.

  • This paper presents a type-2 fuzzy C-means (FCM) algorithm that is an extension of the conventional fuzzy C-means algorithm. In our proposed method, the membership values for each pattern are extended as type-2 fuzzy memberships by assigning membership grades to the type-1 memberships. In doing so, cluster centers that are estimated by type-2 memberships may converge to a more desirable location than cluster centers obtained by a type-1 FCM method in the presence of noise.

  • We present wide-field multiband photometry of globular cluster (GC) systems toward the central region of the Fornax cluster of galaxies, including NGC 1399, NGC 1404, and NGC 1387. Observation was carried out through four optical passbands (U, B, V, and I) with the Mosaic II CCD imager mounted on the 4-m Blanco telescope at Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory (CTIO). This marks one of the widest U-band photometric studies on GC systems. GC candidates are selected among point sources based on their two color diagrams together with a magnitude cut. We investigate the radial variation of color distributions for the GC systems, focusing on the fundamental parameters that characterize bimodal distributions; the number ratio between blue and red GCs, the mean colors of the groups, and their color dispersions. We discuss the implication of our result regarding the origin of GC color bimodality.

  • High-performance Linpack (HPL) is among the most popular benchmarks for evaluating the capabilities of computing systems and has been used as a standard to compare the performance of computing systems since the early 1980s. In the initial system-design stage, it is critical to estimate the capabilities of a system quickly and accurately. However, the original HPL mathematical model based on a single core and single communication layer yields varying accuracy for modern processors and accelerators comprising large numbers of cores. To reduce the performance-estimation gap between the HPL model and an actual system, we propose a mathematical model for multi-communication layered HPL. The effectiveness of the proposed model is evaluated by applying it to a GPU cluster and well-known systems. The results reveal performance differences of 1.1% on a single GPU. The GPU cluster and well-known large system show 5.5% and 4.1% differences on average, respectively. Compared to the original HPL model, the proposed multi-communication layered HPL model provides performance estimates within a few seconds and a smaller error range from the processor/accelerator level to the large system level.

  • MQTT protocol is one of open Publish / Subscribe systems for IoT information transmission. In this paper, we are proposing an algorithm to assign a subscriber, which dynamically participate in MQTT clustering system, to an appropriate broker. In MQTT systems with a centralized broker, there are losses of connectivity and messages between subscribers and brokers. In this paper, we addressed this issue for developing scalable open IoT systems and consider clustering MQTT brokers on the SDN infrastructure. In particular, this paper focuses on the problem of allocating subscribers to brokers in accordance with sharing brokers' topics to reduce brokers' load and communication cost in SDN based MQTT cluster. The Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm will reduce the load and the cost as compared to existing methods.

  • Galaxy clusters are the most massive gravitationally bound systems and thus probably the most recent objects to form. One of promising routes to understand the assembly history of galaxy clusters is to measure observable quantities of components in clusters that are sensitive to the evolutionary state of the cluster. Recent deep observations on the nearby clusters show distinct diffuse intracluster light (ICL), that the light from stars are not bound any individual cluster galaxy, however until now this component has not been well studied due to its faint nature, with typical brightness of ~100 times fainter than the sky background. As shown in galaxy cluster simulation studies, the ICL abundance increases during various dynamical exchanges of galaxies such as the disruption of dwarf galaxies, major mergers between galaxies and the tidal stripping of galaxies. Thus, the ICL is an effective tool to measure the evolutionary stage of galaxy clusters. Moreover, the investigation of the ICL evolution mechanism will allow us understand the galaxy evolution process therein. In this pilot study, we target the Coma cluster, where the existing ICL studies are limited only in the central region. With large and uniform deep optical images from the Subaru telescope, available only recently (Okabe et al. 2014), we are developing a robust ICL measurement technique, extracting the ICL surface brightness and color profiles, which will allow us to study the origin of the ICL and its connection to the evolutionary history of the Coma cluster. For the next phase, we plan to utilize the plenty of spectroscopy data from the MMT telescope to compare ICL properties with the star formation history of the brightest cluster galaxies (BCG), and discuss the ICL formation mechanism of the Coma cluster by comparing the distribution of cluster galaxies with the distribution of diffuse light inside the Coma cluster.
