Aerosol indirect radiative forcing of climate change is considered the most uncertain forcing of climate change over the industrial period, despite numerous studies demonstrating such modification of cloud properties and several studies quantifying resulting changes in shortwave radiative fluxes. Detection of this effect is made difficult by the large inherent variability in cloud liquid water path (LWP): the dominant controlling influence of LWP on optical depth and albedo masks any aerosol influences. Here we have used ground-based remote sensing of cloud optical depth (${\tau}_c$) by narrowband radiometry and LWP by microwave radiometry to determine the dependence of optical depth on LWP, thereby permitting examination of aerosol influence. The method is limited to complete overcast conditions with liquid-phase single layer clouds, as determined mainly by millimeter wave cloud radar. The results demonstrate substantial (factor of 2) day-to-day variation in cloud drop effective radius at the ARM Southern Great Plains site that is weakly associated with variation in aerosol loading as characterized by light-scattering coefficient at the surface. The substantial scatter suggests the importance of meteorological influences on cloud drop size as well, which should be analyzed in the further intensive studies. Meanwhile, it is notable that the decrease in cloud drop effective radius results in marked increase in cloud albedo.

Ice-crystal clouds observation was conducted using a GIST/ADEMRC Multi-wavelength Raman lidar system in order to measure vertical profile and optical depth at Gwangju ($35^{\circ}$10'N, $126^{\circ}$53'E), Korea in December 2002, and March and April 2003. Ice-crystal clouds at high altitude can be distinguished from atmospheric aerosols by high depolarization ratio and high altitude. Ice-crystal clouds were observed at 5~12 km altitudes with a high depolarization ratio from 0.2 to 0.5. Optical depth of ice-crystal clouds had varied from 0.14 to 1.81. The radiative effect of observed ice-crystal cloud on climate system was estimated to be negative net flux in short wavelength (0.25~$4.0{\mu}m$) and positive net flux in short+long wavelength (0.25~$100{\mu}m$) at top of the atmosphere. Net flux by ice-crys tal cloud per unit optical depth was comparable to that of Asian dust.
The traditional approach to inverting aerosol extinction makes use of the assumption of a constant LIDAR ratio in the entire Mie-LIDAR signal profile using the Fernald method. For the large uncertainty in the cloud optical depth caused by the assumed constant LIDAR ratio, an not negligible error of the retrieved aerosol extinction below the cloud will be caused in the backward integration of the Fernald method. A new algorithm to determine aerosol extinction below a cirrus cloud from Mie-LIDAR signals, based on a new cloud boundary detection method and a Mie-LIDAR signal modification method, combined with the backward integration of the Fernald method is developed. The result shows that the cloud boundary detection method is reliable, and the aerosol extinction below the cirrus cloud found by inverting from the modified signal is more efficacious than the one from the measured signal including the cloud-layer. The error due to modification is less than 10% taken in our present example.
Cirrus clouds observation was conducted using a lidar system in order to measure their height, thickness and optical depth at Kwangju (35$^{\circ}$10'N, 126$^{\circ}$53'), Korea in winter, December 2002, and spring March and April 2003. Cirrus clouds at high altitude can be distinguished from atmospheric aerosols location by high depolarization ratio and high altitude. Cirrus clouds were observed at 5${\sim}$12km altitudes with a high depolarization ratio from 0.2 to 0.5. Optical depth of cirrus clouds had varied from 0.28 to 1.81. Radiative effect of observed cirrus cloud on climate system was estimated to be negative net flux from ?0.24 to ?31.04 W/m$^{2}$.
We explore the associations between the total sunspot area, solar north-south asymmetry, and Southern Oscillation Index and the physical characteristics of clouds by calculating normalized cross-correlations, motivated by the idea that the galactic cosmic ray influx modulated by solar activity may cause changes in cloud coverage, and in turn the Earth's climate. Unlike previous studies based on the relative difference, we have employed cloud data as a whole time-series without detrending. We found that the coverage of high-level and low-level cloud is at a maximum when the solar north-south asymmetry is close to the minimum, and one or two years after the solar north-south asymmetry is at a maximum, respectively. The global surface air temperature is at a maximum five years after the solar north-south asymmetry is at a maximum, and the optical depth is at a minimum when the solar north-south asymmetry is at a maximum. We also found that during the descending period of solar activity, the coverage of low-level cloud is at a maximum, and global surface air temperature and cloud optical depth are at a minimum, and that the total column water vapor is at a maximum one or two years after the solar maximum.
One of the subjects in clouds' structure and development is small scale structure of interstellar cloud. The possibility of AU scale structure (Marscher et al. 1993; Moore & Marscher 1995; Roy et al. 2012) is discussed, and this small scale structure is considered as the result of hydrogen volume density (Moore & Marscher 1995), or small-scale chemical and other inhomogeneities (Liszt & Lucas 2000). In order to study this subject with emission line, extremely high resolution is mandatory by VLBI system. However, the alternative method could be observing the absorption line of interstellar cloud on the continuum object. In this case, the resolution would be restricted to the size of the continuum object, if the size of the object is smaller than the resolution of a used telescope. We observed the previous researchers' three objects (BLLAC, NRAO150, B0528+138), whose spectrums are changed from 1993 to 1998 (Liszt & Lucas 2000), with KVN. Through KVN observation, we found the changes of optical depth spectrum compared with the previous spectrums. We will discuss the optical depth spectrum variation by time variation and the meaning of it.

The dust cloud around ${\lambda}$-Orionis is seen to be circular symmetric with the large angular extent (${\sim}8^{\circ}$). However, whether the three dimensional structure of the cloud is shell or torus ring is not yet fully resolved. We studied the structure of the dust cloud using a three-dimensional Monte-Carlo simulation code, MoCafe (Monte Carlo radiative transfer). The dust density structure of the cloud was inferred based on the star-count method. We assumed that the cloud is a spherical shell or a torus ring and calculated the radial profiles of scattered light originating from a central OB association. Comparison of the results with the S2/68 ultraviolet observations indicates that the cloud is a spherical shell. We also compared the Av map around ${\lambda}$-Orionis with the optical depth obtained based on the star-count.
The dimensional accuracy and consistency of a dual oil circuit centrifugal fuel nozzle are important for fuel distribution and combustion efficiency in an engine combustion chamber. A point cloud measurement method was proposed to solve the geometric accuracy detection problem for the fuel nozzle. An improved variance focus measure operator was used to extract the depth point cloud. Compared with other traditional sharpness evaluation functions, the improved operator can generate the best evaluation curve, and has the least noise and the shortest calculation time. The experimental results of point cloud slicing measurement show that the best window size is 24 × 24 pixels. In the height measurement experiment of the standard sample block, the relative error is 2.32%, and in the fuel nozzle cone angle measurement experiment, the relative error is 2.46%, which can meet the high precision requirements of a dual oil circuit centrifugal fuel nozzle.

MODIS/Terra level 3 and NCEP/NCAR Reanalysis data from 2001 to 2008 have been analyzed to understand long-term aerosol and cloud optical properties, and their relationships around Korea. Interestingly, cloud fraction(CF) has the similar annual variation to aerosol optical depth (${\tau}_a$) without any temporal significant trend. Horizontal distributions of ${\tau}_a$ showed the substantial horizontal gradient from China to Korea, especially with the strong difference over the Yellow Sea, which could represent the evidence of the anthropogenic influence from China in the perspective of long-term average. Specifically the negative correlations between ${\tau}_a$ and liquid-phase cloud effective radius ($r_e$) were shown on the monthly-average basis, only in summer with significant associations over the Yellow Sea, but not in the other seasons and/or specific regions. Relationship between ${\tau}_a$ and CF for the low-level liquid-phase clouds exhibited the overall positive correlation, being consistent with cloud lifetime effect. Meanwhile static stability showed no deterministic relationships with ${\tau}_a$ as well as CF. The dependence of aerosol-cloud relationship on the meteorological conditions should be examined more in detail with the satellite remote sensing and reanalysis data.
