  • Recently, the efficient management system for large-scale sensor data has been required due to the increasing deployment of large-scale sensor networks. In previous studies, sensor data was managed by distributed database system which built in a single server or a grid server. Thus, it has disadvantages such as low scalability, and high cost of building or managing the system. In this paper, we propose a cloud-based sensor data management system with low cast, high scalability, and efficiency. The proposed system can be work with the application of a variety of platforms, because processed results are provided through REST-based web service.

  • Recently, supercomputer has been increasingly adopted as a computing environment for scientific simulation as well as education, healthcare and national defence. Especially, supercomputing system with heterogeneous computing resources is gaining resurgence of interest as a next-generation problem solving environment, allowing theoretical and/or experimental research in various fields to be free of time and spatial limits. However, traditional supercomputing services have only been handled through a simple form of command-line based console, which leads to the critical limit of accessibility and usability of heterogeneous computing resources. To address this problem, in this paper, we provide the design and implementation of web-based HPC (High Performance Computing) job management framework for computational scientific simulation. The proposed framework has highly extensible design principles, providing the abstraction interfaces of job scheduler (as well as bundle scheduler plug-ins for LoadLeveler, Sun Grid Engine, OpenPBS scheduler) in order to easily incorporate the broad spectrum of heterogeneous computing resources such as cluster, computing cloud and grid. We also present the detailed specification of HTTP standard based RESTful endpoints, which manage simulation job's life-cycles such as job creation, submission, control and status monitoring, etc., enabling various 3rd-party applications to be newly created on top of the proposed framework.

  • The objective of this study was to develop a runoff analysis system of the Nakdong River watershed using the GRM (Grid-based Rainfall-runoff Model), a physically-based distributed rainfall-runoff model, and to assess the system run time performance according to Microsoft Azure VM (Virtual Machine) settings. Nakdong River watershed was divided into 20 sub-watersheds, and GRM model was constructed for each subwatershed. Runoff analysis of each watershed was calculated in separated CPU process that maintained the upstream and downstream topology. MoLIT (Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport) real-time radar rainfall and dam discharge data were applied to the analysis. Runoff analysis system was run in Azure environment, and simulation results were displayed through web page. Based on this study, the Nakdong River real-time runoff analysis system, which consisted of a real-time data server, calculation node (Azure), and user PC, could be developed. The system performance was more dependent on the CPU than RAM. Disk I/O and calculation bottlenecks could be resolved by distributing disk I/O and calculation processes, respectively, and simulation runtime could thereby be decreased. The study results could be referenced to construct a large watershed runoff analysis system using a distributed model with high resolution spatial and hydrological data.

  • Pub/Sub (Publish/Subscribe) paradigm is a simple and easy to use model for interconnecting applications in a distributed environment. In general, subscribers register their interests in a topic or a pattern of events and then asynchronously receive events matching their interest, regardless of the events' publisher. In order to build a low latency lightweight pub/sub system for Internet of Things (IoT) services, we propose a GQSFPS (Group Quorum System-based Fog Pub/Sub) system that is a core component in the event-driven service oriented architecture framework for IoT services. The GQSFPS organizes multiple installed pub/sub brokers in the fog servers into a group quorum based P2P (peer-to-peer) topology for the efficient searching and the low latency accessing of events. Therefore, the events of IoT are cached on the basis of group quorum, and the delay-sensitive IoT applications of edge devices can effectively access the cached events from group quorum fog servers in low latency. The performance of the proposed GQSFPS is evaluated through an analytical model, and is compared to the GQPS (grid quorum-based pud/sub system).

  • Recently a grid and cloud computing collaboration have become a social issue. These collaborative network system, the P2P system based on this system. Distingui shed from the client/server systems, P2P systems in order to exchange information, its purpose and functions are divided according to the morphological Category. In accordance with the purposes and functions of information and data retrieval, remote program control and integration services for the offers. Most P2P systems client/server scalability, and management takes the form, but to overcome the disadvantages in terms of applying the mixed-mode system is increasing. And recently the distributed computing aspects of the service to users in order to provide suitable to accommodate the diverse needs of various types of mobile agent technology is needed. In this paper, as required by the mobile agent access to a remote resource access control and agent for the execution and management capabilities and improve the reliability of the mobile agent system designed to suggest.

  • This study developed information technology infrastructures for building a driving environment analysis platform using various big data, such as vehicle sensing data, public data, etc. First, a small platform server with a parallel structure for big data distribution processing was developed with H/W technology. Next, programs for big data collection/storage, processing/analysis, and information visualization were developed with S/W technology. The collection S/W was developed as a collection interface using Kafka, Flume, and Sqoop. The storage S/W was developed to be divided into a Hadoop distributed file system and Cassandra DB according to the utilization of data. Processing S/W was developed for spatial unit matching and time interval interpolation/aggregation of the collected data by applying the grid index method. An analysis S/W was developed as an analytical tool based on the Zeppelin notebook for the application and evaluation of a development algorithm. Finally, Information Visualization S/W was developed as a Web GIS engine program for providing various driving environment information and visualization. As a result of the performance evaluation, the number of executors, the optimal memory capacity, and number of cores for the development server were derived, and the computation performance was superior to that of the other cloud computing.

  • To understand the dynamics of radial growth of trees and micro-climate at a site of Korean fir (Abies koreana Wilson) forest on high-altitude area of Mt. Hallasan National Park, Jeju Island, Korea, high precision dendrometers were installed on the stems of Korean fir trees, and the sensors for measuring micro-climate of the forest at 10 minutes interval were also installed at the forest. Data from the sensors were sent to nodes, collected to a gateway wireless, and transmitted to a data server using mobile phone communication system. By analyzing the radial growth data for the trees during the growing season in 2016, we can estimate that the radial growth of Korean fir trees initiated in late April to early May and ceased in late August to early September, which indicates that period for the radial growth was about 4 months in 2016. It is interesting to observe that the daily ambient temperature and the daily soil temperature at the depth of 20 cm coincided with the values of about 10 ℃ when the radial growth of the trees initiated in 2016. When the radial growth ceased, the values of the ambient temperature went down below about 15 ℃ and 16 ℃, respectively. While the ambient temperature and the soil temperature are evaluated to be the good indicators for the initiation and the cessation of radial growth, it becomes clear that radii of tree stems showed diurnal growth patterns affected by diurnal change of ambient temperature. In addition, the wetting and drying of the surface of the tree stems affected by precipitation became the additional factors that affect the expansion and shrinkage of the tree stems at the forest site. While it is interesting to note that the interrelationships among the micro-climatic factors at the forest site were well explained through this study, it should be recognized that the precision monitoring made possible with the application of high resolution sensors in the measurement of the radial increment combined with the observation of 10 minutes interval with aids of information and communication technology in the ecosystem observation.
