This study reports the detection and genotyping of the first clinical case of bovine anemia due to Theileria orientalis group (BATOG) in non-grazed dairy cow in upper South Korea. Blood and serum tests revealed anemia and hyperbilirubinemia from animal showing clinical symptoms, and later confirmed as piroplasmosis-positive. Follow-up surveillance on the herd revealed 2 asymptomatic cows with anemia. The three animals were confirmed theileriosis-positive and genotyping revealed the clinical and one of the asymptomatic cases have Chitose, while the other has Ikeda genotype. Clinical BATOG cases were rarely reported worldwide, and asymptomatic animals left untreated could serve as parasite reservoir.

Benign essential blepharospasm (BEB) is a condition/disease which involves involuntary muscle contractions causing the eye to repetitively close, making it impossible for the patient to perform daily activities. This study reports Korean medicine treatment of a rare case BEB in a 34-year-old male patient whose symptoms showed minimal improvement following botulinum toxin injection (the standard treatment). Acupuncture, pharmacopuncture, and herbal medicine treatment for 11 days resulted in clinical improvement for all symptoms as assessed by using the Jankovic Rating Scale, Blepharospasm Disability Index, numerical rating scale, duration of spasms lasting more than 1 hour per day, and number of spasms lasting less than 1 minute per day. This case report suggests that comprehensive Korean medicine treatment could be a treatment option for BEB in patients who do not respond well to botulinum toxin injection.

Objectives: The purpose of this case study is to report the efficacy and safety of treatment with Korean medicine of a patient with HBeAg-positive chronic viral hepatitis B.Methods: The patient took Korean medicine (mainly Injinchunggan-tang-gamibang) from July 20th, 2010, to March 14th, 2016, without any antiviral or interferon therapy. Changes to laboratory records, abdomen ultrasonography, and clinical symptoms were reviewed.Results: The laboratory records showed that AST, ALT, and HBV DNA had decreased to normal ranges, and HBeAg showed seroconversion. Clinical symptoms also improved after taking Korean medicine.Conclusion: The results suggest that treatment with Korean medicine and without antiviral or interferon therapy could be effective for HBeAg-positive chronic hepatitis B.

In most developing countries, Dientamoeba fragilis infection is an obscure protozoan infection. We aimed to determine a frequency and clinical importance of D. fragilis infection in Taif, Saudi Arabia. A 1-year case control study included patients with gastrointestinal (cases, n=114) or non-gastrointestinal symptoms (controls, n=90). The fecal samples were examined with the classical parasitological methods for intestinal protozoa, and by real time PCR for D. fragilis. The infection by D. fragilis was detected in 5.8% by PCR and in 4.4% patients by microscopy. The infection was identified more in control group (n=9) than in cases (n=3); a sole infection in 11 patients and mixed with Giardia in 1 patient. The other enteric parasites detected were Blastocystis sp. (8.3%), Giardia sp. (5.3%), Cryptosporidium sp. (2.9%), Entamoeba histolytica (1.4%), Entamoeba coli (0.9%) and Hymenolepis nana (0.4%). Our results tend to reinforce the need to increase awareness of D. fragilis infection in Saudi Arabia.

Objectives: This research aimed to identify the influential factors that affect the satisfaction of dental hygiene students' clinical training between college and university and contribute to improvement in clinical practice quality. Methods: A self-reported questionnaire was completed by 210 dental clinical hygienists from June 10 to August 30, 2018. Data were analyzed using SPSS 22.0. An independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, Scheffe's post-hoc test, and Pearson's correlation coefficient were employed, and a stepwise multiple regression analysis was performed. Results: Regarding the influential factors of satisfaction with clinical practice among dental hygiene students, in the case of college students, dental hygienist practice instructor dummy, self-efficacy, satisfaction of school life, interpersonal relation was the increasing order. In the case of university students, dental hygienist practice instructors, subjective health, satisfaction with school life, and interpersonal relations was the increasing order. Conclusions: The most influential factor of dental hygiene students' clinical practice satisfaction between college and university was the ability to form interpersonal relationships. Therefore, to increase the satisfaction of dental hygiene students with clinical practice between college and university, external sources and efforts to emphasize internal sources are required.

Objectives: Alzheimer's Dementia is somewhat common in clinical stages, and there are many reports and papers regarding this subject. We explain the present state of Alzheimer's Dementia in JON (The Journal of Oriental Neuropsychiatry) for the benefits of clinical practice. Methods: We searched for articles in JON from 1990 to 2014 and selected ones that were related to Alzheimer's Dementia; then, we analyzed the data and placed it in four categories, like experimental study, case study, Clinical Data-Analysis study, and clinical trial. Results: 1) We found 47 articles relating to Alzheimer's Dementia in JON from 1997 to 2014: 41 experimental studies, 1 case study, 1 Clinical Data-Analysis study, and 4 Clinical trials. 2) There were Chung-kyung Acupuncture Method, Auricular acupuncture, and Cha-rak Acupuncture Method to treat Alzheimer's Dementia. 3) There were many additional treatments, like aroma therapy. 4) In the experimental study, they reported on several herbs, including herbal prescriptions that affected the suppression of related mRNAs and genes. 5) There were 4 clinical trials regarding herbal prescription that was effective for treating Alzheimer's Dementia. Conclusions: In JON, regarding Alzheimer's Dementia, the majority dealt with experimental studies. Therefore, we also have to expand our sight into other fields of study. We need more clinical trials and case studies for the treatment of Alzheimer's Dementia in Oriental Neuropsychiatry.

Objectives : Sleep Disorders are very common in clinical stages and there are many reports and papers regarding this subject. I try to understand the present state of sleep research in JON (The Journal of Oriental Neuropsychiatry) for the benefits of clinical practice. Methods : We searched and read every article on JON from 1990 to 2012 and selected ones that are related to Sleep Disorder; then analyzed the data to 5 categories, like literature study, case study, Clinical Data-Analysis study, experimental study, and clinical trial. Results : 1. We Found 41 articles relating to sleep disorder in JON form 1999 to 2012, and there were 9 literature studies, 13 case studies, 13 Clinical Data-Analysis studies, 4 experimental studies, and 2 clinical trials. 2. There were Sa-Am Acupuncture Method, Pharmacopuncture, electroacupuncture, and Auricular acupuncture to treat Sleep Disorder. 3. There were many additional treatments like Purgative Therapy, etc. 4. They reported the ordinary sleep pattern of Soeumin and Soyangin, too. 5. In the experimental study, they reported several herbs, herbal prescription on the expression of melatonin receptors, and Punsimgeimgamibang on insomnia, anxiety, emotionality in rats. 6. There were 2 clinical trials, one for Hwabyung-patient with insomnia by acupuncture treatment and another for insomnia in the elderly by ETF-I program. 7. There were 2 case of other sleep disorder (enuresis, sleepwalking) and 2 literature study of dream. Conclusions : In JON regarding sleep disorder, the majority was due to insomnia. Therefore, we also have to expand our sight into other sleep diseases. We need more clinical trials and experimental researches for the construction of EBM Sleep Disorder in Oriental Neuropsychiatry.

Objectives: Recently, high attention has been drawn towards evidence based medicine(EBM). However, there is little follow study after Park's analysis research (2002) in the journal of oriental gynecology. Therefore, there is a need to conduct analyzed research on the topic, due to the increasing interest about EBM. Methods: To analyze the treatises of the journal of oriental gynecology, we examined 56 journals published from 1987 to 2010. we followed the way of Park, classifying treatises into bibliographic, experimental and clinical categories. Results: Analytic research, as a part of clinical treatises, increased rapidly from 2001. As a result, it took 53.3% of whole study in general after 2002 and it reached up to 70.0% in 2004. Most part of clinical treatises until 2002 was about case report of patients, but the amount of clinical trial started to increase since 2003. Case report and case series showed dramatic increase after 2001, and clinical trial started to increase after 2003. As a result, 43.8% of the analyzed research was due to clinical trial by 2009. Conclusions: On the base of this research, quality evaluation of clinical treatises using guality assessment tool is needed for EBM in the part of oriental obstetrics & gynecology.

■ Objectives The purpose of this case report is to show the effect of Bojungiki-tang on a patient complaining dysuria and urinary pain caused by repeated urinary tract infection(UTI) occurred after onset of cerebral infarction. ■ Methods A cerebral infarction patient with repeated UTI was treated with herbal medication, Bojungiki-tang. Then we evaluated the improvement with amount of total urine output, nelaton catheterization urine output and self voiding urine output. ■ Results Increase in amount of total and self voiding urine output and decrease in amount of nelaton urine output were observed after taking Bojungiki-tang. ■ Conclusion This case showed the effect of Bojungiki-tang on dysuria and urinary pain caused by repeated UTI.

This case study is to report the effectiveness of Hyungbangdojeock-san in the treatment of daytime sleepiness. The patient was diagnosed as a Soyangin, one of the 4 constitution types in Korean medicine, and treated with herbal medicine, Hyungbangdojeock-san and acupuncture treatment for 14 days. The severity of symptom was assessed using Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS). After treatment, the severity of daytime sleepiness was reduced. ESS score was decreased from 11 to 2. As a result this case showed the effect of Hyungbangdojeock-san on daytime sleepiness.
