Objectives The purpose of this review is to investigate studies of Scolopendrid pharmacopuncture and the evidence of it's effects in order to suggest a better research method in the future. Methods We retrieved numbers of clinical studies about Scolopendrid pharmacopuncture from 7 Korean web databases, using key words such as 'Scolopendrid', 'Scolopendrid AND Pharmacopuncture'. This study had been conducted from 1st May 2013 to 31th July 2013. Controlled studies and case studies were only used for this study. Clinical studies that we picked from the databases were classified according to the diseases that those studies are about, and from these clinical studies, we are to research what has to be improved generally in clinical researches. Results 18 case studies, 4 controlled studies had been under research. Scolopendrid pharmacopuncture has a therapeutic effect mainly in musculoskeletal and neurological diseases such as herniated intervertebral disc, carpal tunnel syndrome, swollen leg, feeling of cold on legs, wrist ganglion, lateral epicondylitis, radial nerve palsy, cervical myelopathy, cauda equina syndrome, postauricular pain; as an early symptom of Bell's palsy, pain of popliteal part, gout, plantar fasciitis, cellulitis, frozen shoulder, pain of hip adductors. However objectivity and reliability of the Scolopendrid pharmacopuncture studies still remains controversial. Conclusions It has been suggested that there are positive effects of Scolopendrid pharmacopuncture therapy in treating specific diseases (especially neuromusculoskeletal diseases). However, this narrative review can't conclude and prove that the Scolopendrid pharmacopuncture has positive effectiveness on these diseases unlike systematic review. So, in order to put Scolopendrid pharmacopuncture therapy to use for many kinds of diseases in more reasonable ways, it is essential to build well-designed clinical research tools. In the future, abundant case studies, more follow-up trials and randomized controlled trials based on the korean medicine should be done to use Scolopendrid pharmacopuncture for a clinical purpose.
Objectives This study aimed to review clinical studies about Korean medicine used in peroneal nerve palsy. Methods In 11 online databases (Earticle, Research Information Sharing Service, Oriental Medicine Advanced Searching Integrated System, KMbase, Korean Traditional Knowledge Portal, National Digital Science Library, MEDLINE/Pubmed, Ebscohost, Cochrane CENTRAL, EMBASE, China National Knowledge Infrastructure), we searched clinical studies about Korean medicine. Among the studies that we've searched, we excluded the studies that are not related to Korean medicine, case reports, randomized controlled trials and retrospective studies. As a result, 16 case studies and 1 randomized controlled trial are included. Results Total number of patients was 123. In these studies, acupuncture (100%), herbal medicine (58.8%), pharmacopuncture (58.8%), Korean physical therapy (58.8%), moxibustion (41.1%), cupping (41.1%) etc. were used. In acupuncture, GB34 and ST36 were most frequently used. Most of the herbal medicines used in these studies were different. Range of movement were most frequently used in outcome measure. Conclusions In this study, we reviewed studies about Korean medicine used in peroneal nerve palsy. It was difficult to clearly determine which intervention has improved the symptom. In the future, Further clinical studies will be needed to retain the evidence for the treatment of peroneal nerve palsy. And also more randomized controlled clinical trials to prove the efficacy of Korean medicine will be needed.
Objectives : The aim of this preliminary study is to suggest a clinical approach on prostate cancer through the analysis of existing clinical practice guidelines or clinical studies. Materials and Methods : The data related on the treatment of prostate cancer were collected using various search engines such as Pub Med, KIOM OASIS, CNKI. Then, data were analyzed to evaluate the validity of recommendation of treatment. Results : Prostate cancer has the highest prevalence around the world. Recently, the incidence of prostate cancer in Korea is rapidly increasing. Especially, it was reported that incidence rate rose up to 80% by age 80 years. In recent studies, applying combined traditional and conventional medicine were reported to improve the survival, quality of life, immune function, and suppress of tumor growth in prostate cancer. However there has not been an objective and systemic clinical guideline for prostate cancer in Korean Medicine. Accordingly, it has been difficult for doctors to apply optimized therapeutic treatment in clinics. This study will show a preliminary approach to establish clinical practice guideline for prostate cancer of Korean Medicine. Conclusion : Further objective and systemic clinical studies by Korean Medicine are needed to develop more advanced clinical practice guidelines of prostate cancer.
Objectives : As acupuncture treatment has been widely practiced in many countries around the world, clinical trials of acupuncture treatments also have become popular. The objective of the study was to explore the trends of research investigating the effect of acupuncture treatment in clinical trials using a bibliometric approach, a quantitative analytical methods. Methods : Publications related to clinical trials using acupuncture from 2000 to 2019 were retrieved from the Web of Science database. Extracted articles were analyzed in terms of publication year, country, journal, research area, organizations and authors. Trends in research on acupuncture in clinical trials were visualized using the VOSviewer program. Results : A total of 3,166 articles of acupuncture clinical trials published from 2000 to 2019 were identified and analyzed. The country producing the most articles in this field was USA followed by China, England, South Korea, and Germany. A network analysis based on the co-occurrence of keywords showed following three clusters: clinical studies, pain management studies, and methodology studies. Conclusions : This study provided a macroscopic overview of research in acupuncture clinical trials. These findings provide an expansive strategy for researchers in this field to cooperate with other researchers or organizations.
Objectives: The objective of this study was to review and analyze domestic research trends of ear acupuncture and ear acupressure (EAs) in elderly population. Methods: We searched five domestic databases to collect relevant original clinical studies up to July 2, 2021. Conditions of elderly participants and results reported in included studies were analyzed. Methods of EAs used were analyzed referring to STandards for Reporting Interventions in Clinical Trials of Acupuncture. Results: A total of 17 studies including nine randomized controlled trials were analyzed. As for the target condition, sleep disorder was the most common (n=9), followed by pain condition (n=6). There were three studies on participants with specific Sasang constitution. Procedures of EAs used in nursing studies were generally similar to those of Korean medicine (KM). Conclusions: Domestic studies have reported that EAs might be helpful in improving the health of the elderly. In the future, more research studies using EAs for the elderly are needed in KM field. Collaborative research with KM nurses is recommended. EAs should be further investigated as a promising KM intervention in terms of health and welfare for the elderly.
Objective : To investigate the usage of Korean herbal medicine (KHM) for climacteric symptoms, this study reviewed clinical studies conducted in Korea. Method : Literature search was performed on three Korean database; OASIS, RISS and NDSL. Studies published before July 2023 were categorized and analyzed according to the study type and herbal prescriptions. Results : Fifty-eight studies including 7 controlled trial, 27 case series and 24 single case reports were included in our review and the total number of case patients was 420. 52 prescriptions based on syndrome identifications and 11 prescriptions of Sasang constitutions were used and the most frequently used prescriptions were Soyosan(逍遙散) and Guibitang(歸脾湯). Thirty-two prescriptions were also mentioned in previous delphi research or clinical practice guideline, and the rest were not. Thirty-five studies used acupuncture combined with KHM and 10 studies used pharmacopuncture and 5 studies used herbal hipbath. Conclusion : To increase the therapeutic effect of KHM and establish KHM as an alternative to hormone treatment, various prescriptions should be used according to syndrome identifications in the clinical field. High-quality RCTs on frequently used prescriptions and the development of various type of KHM are also necessary.

Objectives: This study summarizes current trends and results in clinical studies on herbal medicine treatments for chronic pancreatitis. Methods: Studies published from 2014 to 2023 were searched for on the China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), PubMed, and KMbase using the keywords "chronic pancreatitis", "herbal medicine", "herb", "만성 췌장염", and "한약". The studies were analyzed according to year, study design, characteristics of the patients, and traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) intervention. Results: In total, 23 studies were selected. There were 21 randomized controlled trials and 2 case-control studies. The most common herbal prescriptions were Qingyi-tang (淸胰湯), Radix Bupleuri (柴胡), Radix Paeoniae Alba (白芍藥), Radix Glycyrrhizae (甘草), Radix Scutellariae (黃芩), and Rhei Rhizoma (大黃). In all the studies, herbal medicine treatments were effective in the treatment of chronic pancreatitis, and efficacy was assessed using clinical symptoms, physicochemical examination, radiological examination, and relapse. Conclusions: Herbal medicine treatment can be an effective treatment for chronic pancreatitis and has potential in clinical practice.
The results from eight randomized controlled studies demonstrate that venlafaxine is effective in the treatment of hot flashes with tolerable adverse effects. Based on the results of the above studies, venlafaxine can be recommended for the treatment of hot flashes. However, there are limitations in the above studies. The inclusion criteria of 5 studies reviewed in this paper was breast cancer patients, so it's hard to apply the results to the general population in clinical practice. Also 5 studies had less than 100 subjects included, and 18-week study was the longest one among studies reviewed in this paper. Therefore, large and long-term clinical studies with the general population should be conducted to use venlafaxine for the treatment of hot flashes in clinical practice.

The objective of this study was to review the current clinical studies about the effect of herbal medicine for Parkinson's disease in China over the last 5 years and then to suggest the foundation for treatment and further studies. We had searched for studies in China National Knowledge Infrastructure(CNKI, http://www.cnki.net) and PubMed from January 2010 to December 2014. Key words were the various combinations of '帕金森', '湯', '丸', '散', '中醫藥', 'Parkinson's disease', and 'herbal medicine'. Total 53 clinical studies were selected and analyzed. The most frequently used diagnostic criteria of Parkinson's disease was the Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale(UPDRS). The most frequently used medical herb was Paeoniae Radix alba(白芍藥) more 30 times and the highest amount was Astragali radix(黃芪) 100g per day. The most frequent syndrome differentiation was liver kidney yin deficiency(肝腎陰 虛). We found out there are many clinical studies of herbal medicine for Parkinson's disease in China. These studies would be able to provide the basis of clinical research on Parkinson's disease, and also applied to the treatment of Parkinson's disease in Korea.
