Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate patient safety teaching competency of nursing faculty and the extent of teaching patient safety topics in the nursing curriculum. Methods: A national survey was conducted with full-time nursing faculty in 4-year nursing schools. Regional quota sampling method was used. An online survey was sent to 1,028 nursing faculty and 207 of them were completed. Among the 207, we analyzed data from 184 participants. The revised Health Professional Education in Patient Safety Survey was used. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation analysis, and multiple linear regression analyses. Results: The faculty's self-confidence was lower than their perceived importance of patient safety education. The mean score of teaching patient safety was $3.52{\pm}0.67$ out of 5, and the contents were mostly delivered through lectures. The extent of faculty's teaching varied depending on faculty's clinical career, teaching subjects, participation in practicum courses, and previous experience of patient safety education. The significant predictors of the extent of teaching patient safety were the faculty's self-confidence in teaching patient safety (${\beta}=.39$) during clinical practicum, their perceived importance of patient safety education during lectures (${\beta}=.23$), and the teaching subject (${\beta}=.15$). Conclusion: To enhance the competency of nursing faculty for effective patient safety education, a patient safety education program tailored to faculty characteristics should be developed and continuously provided for faculty. In addition, it is necessary to improve patient safety curriculum, strengthen clinical and school linkages, and utilize various education methods in patient safety education.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the effect of the clinical learning environment on nursing students' powerlessness and self-efficacy related to clinical practice. Methods: Participants were 149 nursing students from a university who had completed their clinical practicum in B city. Data were collected using self-report questionnaires and analyzed using t-test, one-way ANOVA, Scheffe's test, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and hierarchical multiple regression. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop an integrated nursing practicum education matrix based on the learning outcomes of each stage. Methods: In this Delphi technique study, 10 experts, consisting of six professors and four nurses, participated in the development of the matrix. The first step was an in-depth review for the composition of the questionnaire and the second step was the Delphi technique. The Delphi survey was conducted two times in order to complete the components of the matrix. The survey data was analyzed for statistical averages and standard deviations to decide the order of priority. Results: According to each stage (i.e. fundamental stage, competent stage, and proficient stage), the matrix was composed of education contents, methods, evaluation methods, and curriculum outcomes. Conclusion: The integrated nursing practicum education matrix of Y University was completed. The developed matrix will result in a reduction in the gap between nursing education and clinical practice and an improvement in nursing competency.
Purpose: This study was aimed to develop frequently-used clinical scenarios and scoring rubrics to assess core basic nursing skills in adult health nursing clinical practice for clinical evaluation based on program learning outcomes (PO). Methods: This study was a methodological research combining focus group interviews and questionnaires to select and construct scenarios. Data were collected from clinical practitioners, adult health nursing professors, and new nurses from November, 2013 to April, 2014. The developed scenarios and rubrics were applied to nursing students by way of showing an example. Results: The 12 frequently-used clinical scenarios were developed. The proportion of the evaluation rubrics were 30% for clinical instructors where as 70% for college instructors. In order for students to achieve the important learning outcomes from the courses for clinical practice, four program outcomes (POs) were selected as well as a rubric for each POs was developed. Students who had situation-based clinical practices showed higher levels of satisfaction on mastery of core basic nursing skills and communication skills. Conclusion: This findings of the study suggested the strategies for complementing pitfalls in clinical setting and achieving PO during students' clinical practicum.

Purpose: This study was conducted to explore how clinical practice stress and moral sensitivity affect the clinical competency of nursing students. Methods: Participants had completed at least a one year (2 semesters) clinical nursing practicum through K University in D Metropolitan City. A total of 188 nursing students were recruited: third grade (n=104) and fourth grade (n=84). The questionnaires were adopted with clinical practice stress, Korean version of moral sensitivity questionnaire (K-MSQ), and the clinical competency. Results: Clinical competency was positively correlated with patient-oriented care (r=.27, p<.001) and the professional responsibility (r=.32, p<.001) of the moral sensitivity (r=.27, p<.001). The attitude of medical personnel experiencing clinical practice stress shows a significant positive relationship with clinical competency (r=.15, p=.038). The attitude of medical personnel (β=.09, p=.194) experiencing clinical practice stress, patient-oriented care (β=.16, p=.041) and professional responsibility (β=.23, p=.003) of the moral sensitivity explained 12% of the variance in clinical competency (F=9.17, p<.001). Therefore, the influential factors on clinical competency were two sub-factors of moral sensitivity. Conclusion: Moral educational programs should be considered to develop a nursing students' clinical competency.

This descriptive convergence research is to get basic data for educational program by investigating awareness on pediatric nurses and nursing prospects after pediatric clinical practicum among 143 junior nursing students. Using SPSS/Win 21.0, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient and stepwise multiple regression were carried out. The awareness of subjects on pediatric nurses was $4.09{\pm}0.61$ on a scale of 5, which was higher than the traditional and social ones, and nursing prospects' was $3.31{\pm}0.65$ on a scale of 5. There're significant differences partially in awareness on pediatric nurses according to sex, age, satisfaction in nursing and practium hospitals. Awareness on nursing prospects of those who had average satisfaction in nursing was higher than others(p<.002). There was a positive correlation between subvaribles of awareness on pediatric nurses and nursing prospects(r=.287~.510, p<.01), Traditional and social awareness were the significant factors on nursing prospects in hierarchical multiple regression, and the explannation rate was 29.2%(p<.001). It's needed to raise awareness on nursing prospects by improving traditional and social awareness on pediatric nurses.
Purpose: This study was done to examine the effect of direct practice of newborn health assessment on nursing student's clinical competence and self-efficacy and to propose effective strategies for clinical education on newborn care. Methods: Design was a nonequivalent control group quasi-experimental study. The direct practice program was composed of a lecture, demonstration, drill and feedback using a manikin, and repeated direct practice regarding newborn health assessment. Participants were 65 student nurses taking the pediatric nursing practicum in the nursery room at M hospital. The experimental group (n=33) participated in the direct practice program for newborn health assessment and the control group (n=32) received the traditional practice method. Nursing clinical competence was assessed by two nurse investigators and structured questionnaires were used to measure self-efficacy. Results: The experimental group's clinical competence was significantly higher than that of the control group (t=-4.82, p=.000). However no significant difference was found between the two groups for self-efficacy (t=1.264, p=.211). Conclusion: These findings indicate that the direct practice program is effective in improving nursing student's clinical competence, but it was not effective in increasing self-efficacy. Direct practice in various clinical education settings is recommended and longitudinal effects be evaluated.
