Investigation of human papillomavirus (HPV) in archival formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) material is important for understanding cervical carcinogenesis. The objective of the present study was to identify the high risk HPVs (HR-HPVs) using HPV E6/E7 mRNA testing from archival tissues in cervical cancer and the relation to HR-HPVs genotypes in paired cervical exfoliated cells. HPV E6/E7 mRNA testing and DNA chip testing were performed in 79 paired cervical FFPE tissues and exfoliated cells from women with histologically confirmed squamous cell carcinoma and adenocarcinoma. Overall agreement in HR-HPVs detection from FFPE samples and cytology samples were 98.5% in HPV 16, 100% in HPV 18, HPV 31, HPV 33, HPV 58, HPV 66, and HPV 68. Type-specific agreement between FFPE samples and cytology samples was 89.1% in HPV positive, 93.5% in HPV 16 and more than 70% in the other HR-HPVs. In conclusion, HR-HPVs were reliably detected in paired FFPE and cytology samples with some variation in type-specific detection.
Vancomycin-resistant Enterococci (VRE) are a leading cause of a nosocomial infection. While seven glycopeptide resistance genotypes have been found in Enterococci, vanA and vanB are the most common resistance genotypes. Aims of this study were to detect antibiotic susceptibilities of 23 Enterococcus spp, which broke out in a university hospital by the disk diffusion test, to investigate specific genes of vanA and vanB by conventional and real-time PCR. PCR for vanA and vanB was performed on 23 Enterococci, all 23 were positive for vanA type. This study reports the validation of a simple and rapid VRE detection method that can be easily incorporated into the daily routine of a clinical laboratory. Early detection of VRE strains, including those with susceptibility to Vancomycin, is of paramount clinical importance, as it allows a rapid initiation of strict infection control practices as well as a therapeutic guidance for a confirmed infection. The real-time PCR method is a rapid technique to detect vanA in Enterococci. It is simple and reliable for the rapid characterization of VRE.
From the total 121,294 clinical materials submitted to the Department of Laboratory Medicine of "C" hospital from December 1, 2004 to November 30, 2006, 3,408 Pseudomonas spp. were isolated. The isolation frequencies of Pseudomonas spp. were as follows, P. aeruginosa 95.5%, P. putida 2.5%, P. fluorescens 0.8%, along with low frequencies of P. luteola, P. alcaligenes, P. stutzeri, P. oryzihabitants, P. mendocina and unidentified Pseudomonas species. The isolation rates of Pseudomonas spp. according to season and sex were evenly distributed. The isolated frequency of Pseudomonas spp. in male was two times higher than that of in female showing significantly more male patients in surgical areas and more female patients in internal areas (p<0.001). In monthly analysis, Pseudomonas spp. were the most frequently isolated in July (10.4%), but lowest in February (5.6%). Half of Pseudomonas spp. were isolated from sputum (48.2%). In the susceptibility analysis of Pseudomonas spp. by VITEK II AST cards, the Pseudomonas spp showing higher susceptibility against antimicrobial agents were piperacillin/tazobactam (82.7%) in P. aeruginosa; amikacin (84.7%), colistin (83.3%) in P. putida; and amikacin (96.3%), cefepime (87.5%), ceftazidime (87.5%) ciprofloxacin (92.3%), colistin (88.5%) gentamicin (96.2%), isepamicin (96,1%), meropenem (92.3%), netilmicin (96.0%), piperacillin/ tazobactam (95.4%) and tobramycin (92.6%) in P. fluorescens.
This study aims to analysis the curriculum problems and its improvements and to investigate curricula satisfaction among the students majoring in Clinical Pathology. A college used as a population, and 80 effective survey data were collected by sampling the graduates who carried out the clinical field training in third grade year. For statistical analysis of the collected data, the Stata(version 12.0) statistical package was used for frequency analysis, pearson correlations test and multiple regression analysis. The results of the analysis were as follows; First, the result showed that the synthetical theory curriculum has an positive effect on curricula satisfaction. Second, it was found that extension of both the clinical field training and laboratory and practice education have an significant influence direction of positiveness on curricula satisfaction. Third, as the problems of curriculum, the students selected shortage of english subjects connected with the job. We must intensify additional subjects (english ability) for job as the improvement of curriculum. Accordingly, academic, industrial circles and students are supposed to jointly seek for the plan for the enhancement of clinical field training satisfaction.

Separating of the facial nerve caused by compression near the blood vessels that cause the blood vessels and surgery when the hemifacial spasm, facial spasms, will disappear. These impacts have occurred very rarely and seen in this paper as facial spasms due to a brain tumor. The size of a brain tumor grows, which will put pressure on the surrounding facial spasm. Treated hemifacial spasm symptoms disappear through the removal of a brain tumor that occurs because saw.
The 2019 coronavirus outbreak poses a threat to scientific, societal, financial, and health resources. The complex pathogenesis of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus centers on the unpredictable clinical progression of the disease, which may evolve abruptly and result in critical and life-threatening clinical complications. Effective clinical laboratory biomarkers that can classify patients according to risk are essential for ensuring timely treatment, and an analysis of recently published studies found cytokine storm and coagulation disorders were leading factors of severe COVID-19 complications. The following inflammatory, biochemical, and hematology biomarkers markers have been identified in COVID-19 patients; neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio, c-reactive protein, procalcitonin, urea, liver enzymes, lactate dehydrogenase, serum amyloid A, cytokines, d-dimer, fibrinogen, ferritin, troponin, creatinine kinase, and lymphocyte, leukocyte, and platelet counts. These factors are predictors of disease severity and some are involved in the pathogenesis of COVID-19. CRP is an acute-phase, non-specific serological biomarker of inflammation and infection and is related to disease severities and outcomes. In the present study, CRP levels were found to rise dramatically among COVID-19 patients, and our findings suggest CRP could be utilized clinically to predict COVID-19 prognosis and severity even before disease progression and the manifestation of clinical symptoms.
Increased waist circumference has shown to be more strongly associated with cardiovascular disease risk factors. The purpose of this study is to investigate the association between exercise capacity and cardiovascular risk factors among obese types in adult men. The subjects of this study were a total fifty-four obese persons and obesity criteria is body mass index $(BMI){\geq}25kg/m^2$. Diagnostic criteria for obesity was defined as a waist circumference of ${\geq}90cm$. The BMI in the obese subjects, as judged by the presence or absence of abdominal obesity, were classified into two groups (non-AO: without abdominal obesity group, AO: with abdominal obesity group). AO presented lower total exercise time, metabolic equivalents (METs) than Non-AO. AO showed slow HRR (heart rate recovery) response. HRR was negative correlated with BMI, body fat mass, waist circumference. AO had a high heart rate and a low cardiac output in submaximal exercise stage 1~2. In conclusion, AO's (with abdominal obesity groups) total exercise time, METs and HRR are lower than Non-AO. HRR is related with BMI, body fat mass and waist circumference.
Pulse wave velocity (PWV) is used to non-invasively estimate the severity of arteriosclerosis by measuring the patient's arterial stiffness comparing with each normal reference range according to their ages. Increased arterial stiffness is closely related to both atherosclerosis and arteriosclerosis, which have been known for causes of cardiovascular disease and stroke, also negatively affects the prognosis and the re-occurrence in patients with stroke. The study is focused on how brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity (baPWV) is related to cardiovascular disease risk factors in patients with acute stroke. There were 114 subjects, 69 males and 45 females, all in their 60's and had PWV test for acute stroke. The results are as follows: the group with increased arterial stiffness showed significant increase in HbAlc, total cholesterol, RSBP (resting systolic blood pressure), CSBP (central systolic blood pressure) and CDBP (central diastolic blood pressure). Cross tabulation test showed that there was a significant relationship only between the group with increased arterial stiffness and diabetes mellitus (DM). Therefore, it might be useful for preventing re-occurrence and making a favorable prognosis to promptly adjust DM and hypertension-related risk factors in patients with acute stroke.

On the basis of morphological characteristics, of total 128 strains of from sputum of tuberculos inpatient were identified as A. fumigatus (61 strains), A. niger (37), A. flavus (26), A. versicolor (1), A. nidulans (1), A. clavatus (1) and Neosartorya fennelliae (1). These strains were re-identified according to recent Aspergillus classification system which is mainly based on molecular characteristics. The strains were grouped by randomly amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) techniques. The representative strains from each group were sequenced with partial ${\beta}$-tubulin gene and compared with those of reference strains in the Aspergillus and were identified by the sequence. The identification was confirmed by morphology examination. As the results, they are reidentified as A. fumigatus (58), A. niger (11), A. tubingensis (26), A. flavus (27), A. sydowii (3), A. nidulans (1), A. clavatus (1) and Neosatorya fennelliae (1). This is the first report of A. tubuingensis in clinical field in Korea.

This study attempted to provide the basic data for developing a system to identify the role of medical technologists and ensure an efficient response for quick and accurate diagnostic tests in the COVID-19 era. The research method involved using focus group interviews for a survey and analysis of 15 medical institutions. Eleven sample collection institutions, 10.4 medical technologists, 2.1 minutes of collection time, 5.4 hours of test time, 9,670 tests, 6.2 member test workforce size, and 7 screening center operating institutions were surveyed. The results of the focus group interview analysis revealed that there were no standardized guidelines covering working hours, area, and environment to protect sample collectors and testers in relation to the COVID-19 tests. Also, legal protection measures were insufficient in the event of accidental infections and there were no personnel regulations related to COVID-19. In addition, the professional training of sample collectors and molecular diagnostic testers was required for reliable COVID-19 testing. In conclusion, it is necessary to provide professional education through special test short-term training institutions to cope with emergency infectious diseases such as COVID-19. Legal systems should be put in place to protect the workforce and ensure stability.
