Analysis on Inundation Impacts of Sea Level Rise Using System Dynamics-GIS Model (System Dynamics-GIS 모델을 이용한 해수면 상승 침수 영향 분석)

  • In order to analyze the impacts of climate change, a time and space integrated model was developed in this study using system dynamics and GIS. The model built was used to carry out a simulation on the inundation impact on A-gu of Busan Metropolitan city resulting from the sea level rise scenario of IPCC and storm surge, which is the worst case. Through this, the flooded area and population until 2100 were predicted. Also, the result and significance of each alternative was reviewed improving the model by establishing alternative scenarios of protection, accommodation and retreat as plans of reaction to sea level rise. The combination of system dynamics and GIS has advantages of how the diverse variables change until the target year can be traced and, accordingly, not only the results but also the processes of spatial change can be examined by calculating the value of change process at each time step. The synergy of this model presumed to be a foothold for solving problems which are becoming difficult to predict due to increase in uncertainty and complexity such as the support for decision making for urban resilience to natural disasters.

Analysis on the Change of Regional Vulnerability to Flood (홍수피해에 따른 지역적 취약성 변화 분석)

  • Recently, the damage by fresh flood increases in Gangwon-do and Gyeongsangbuk-do of the north-eastern area of Korea. Even though the recent pattern of rain fall keeps changing, there is no strategy to mitigate damage by disaster. For the appropriate measure and policy for decreasing damage, an index for vulnerability is necessary to provide evidence of local climate change. The present work analyzes the flooding damage cost during the past 20 years. During 80's, the southern area of Korea was seriously damaged by over-floods on the agricultural ground. After that time, the loss and damage has decreased in the southern area but the middle part has shown slight but distinct increases of damage. The absolute coast of damage in the northern part has kept constant. However, the relative regional damage to the total country damage has kept increasing over 20 years in the same area. The surface area of floods is strongly correlated with the regional damage cost in the southern part but the north-eastern part has weak correlation between flooded area and cost. It implies that the recent damage in the north-eastern mountain area was not caused by flood itself but the other factors such as avalanches. The present work expects that the damage cost can be a good proxy value for index for climate change impact assessment.

  • We applied general equilibrium model to analysis the economic impact of international emission trading by sector and the efficiency of the Convention to study whether Climate Change Convention satisfy the efficiency. We divided the world as 4 groups : USA, OECD members w/o USA (OEC), Former Soviet Union (FSU) and Developing countries (DEV). Compared to no trading, global trading would accomplish the same environmental effect with less cost as much as 97.8 billion$, which is the surplus of trading. However, half of it is taken by USA and 20% by OEC. FSU and DEV have only 18% and 10%. This result suggest the two things. First, the emission trading is effective as far as the participation of developing countries are guaranteed. If they do not take part in the coalition and emit the leakage, it may threaten the stability of the international trading coalition. Second, we found the logical ground of the side payment for developing countries. The permit buying countries take more share of the surplus under the emission trading, while the energy sector of developing countries shrinks to sell permits, which may adversely affect to economic growth of the countries. Therefore, the Annex-I countries need to provide side payment to lead the participation of the developing countries.

Change of Coastal Upwelling Index along the Southeastern Coast of Korea (동해 남부 연안용승지수의 변화)

  • Long-term trends and recent variations of upwelling index (UI), which affects significantly ecosystem in southwestern part of the East Sea, were investigated. The UI was calculated with the NCEP/NCAR reanalysis data from January 1948 to September 2018. The mean UI has positive value that causes upwelling in April to August with a peak in July. The long-term reducing trend of UI was in statistically significant in June and July, and the sum of UI in May, June and July also showed same result. Through the atmospheric pressure analysis around the Korean peninsula, it was found that the trend of the UI was the influence of the pressure change trend in the northwestern region ($35-50^{\circ}N$, $114-129^{\circ}E$) of the southwestern part of the East Sea. Investigating UI in recent 7 years from 2012 to 2018, it was revealed that the UI was bigger than 3 times of standard deviation in July 2013. This was result from the sea level pressure difference became larger in the southwestern part of the East Sea than normal year due to the lowered air pressure in the northeastern region of China and the strengthened high air pressure of western peripheral of the North Pacific High. On the other hand, the UI in July 2018 was negative when the impact of the North Pacific High and the low air pressure in the northeastern China was weak. Due to the decreasing trend of UI and its large year-to-year variation in southwestern part of the East Sea, continuous monitoring is necessary to know the influence of coastal upwelling on the ecosystem.

On the Persistence of Warm Eddies in the East Sea (동해 난수성 에디의 장기간 지속에 관하여)

  • In this study, comparative analysis is performed on the long-term persisted warm eddies that were generated in 2003 (WE03) and in 2014 (WE14) over the East Sea using the HYCOM reanalysis data. The overshooting of the East Korea Warm Current (EKWC) was appeared during the formation period of those warm eddies. The warm eddies were produced in the shallow Korea Plateau region through the interaction of the EKWC and the sub-polar front. In the interior of the both warm eddies, a homogeneous water mass of about $13^{\circ}C$ and 34.1 psu were generated over the upper 150 m depth by the winter mixing. In 2004, the next year of the generation of the WE03, the amount of the inflow through the western channel of the Korea Strait was larger, while the inflow was lesser than its climatology during 2015 corresponding to the development period of the WE14. The above results suggest that the heat and salt are supplied in the warm eddies through the Tsushima Warm Current (TWC), however the amount of the inflow through the Korea Strait has negligible impact on the long-term persistency of the warm eddies. Both of the warm eddies were maintained more than 18 months near Ulleung island, while they have no common feature on the pathways. In the vicinity of the Ulleung basin, large and small eddies are continuously created due to the meandering of the EKWC. The long-term persisted warm eddies in the Ulleung Island seem to be the results of the interaction between the pre-existed eddies located south of the sub-polar front and fresh eddies induced by the meanderings of the EKWC. The conclusion is also in line with the fact that the long-term persisted warm eddies were not always created when the overshooting of the EKWC was appeared.

A Bibliometric Study on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Research Trends in Entrepreneurship (키워드 네트워크 분석을 활용한 창업분야 지속가능발전목표(SDGs) 연구동향 분석)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the extent of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)-related research in the field of entrepreneurship globally since the adoption of the SDGs at the UN General Assembly, and to compare international and domestic research trends in order to determine the direction of SDGs-related research in entrepreneurship in Korea. Utilizing three databases-Web of Science (WoS), KCI, and DBpia- SDGs-related studies in entrepreneurship were extracted by employing specific search terms. After data purification, a total of 356 studies abroad and 4 studies in Korea were used for analysis. After data purification, a total of 356 international studies and 4 Korean studies were analyzed. Due to the limited number of domestic studies, the research trends were examined by conducting frequency analysis and keyword network analysis on international studies alone. Frequency analysis revealed that SDGs research in entrepreneurship primarily focused on sustainability-related terms and was conducted in conjunction with business models, innovation, entrepreneurship education, and strategies. Furthermore, yearly frequency analysis demonstrated an expansion of topics to encompass research on entrepreneurship and SDGs policies, the roles and capabilities of female entrepreneurs in SDGs implementation, energy start-ups and SDGs, directions for implementing SDGs in business schools and SDGs education, indicators for SDGs implementation and evaluation, and technologies for sustainability. The keyword network analysis identified central topics such as business, sustainability, SDGs, innovation, entrepreneurship, business models, and education, with research areas extending to entrepreneurship ecosystems, change and strategy, ethics, and climate. This study holds significance in establishing a foundation for SDGs research in entrepreneurship, which is currently an underexplored area in Korea, by presenting emerging research trends related to SDGs in entrepreneurship.

A Consideration of the Correlation Between the Change of Surface Temperature on the Roof and the Adoption of the Green Roof vs Non Green Roof -Application in DaeJeon Area- (옥상녹화와 비 옥상녹화 표면의 온도변화 상관관계 고찰 -대전지역을 중심으로-)

  • With rapid modernization and industrialization, many urban areas are becoming overcrowded at a rapid pace and such urban ecological problems as heat island effect are becoming serious due to the reduced green zones resulted from the indiscriminate development. To solve this problem, ecological park, constructed wetlands, and greening on the elevation, balcony, and roof of a building that have the structure and function very close to the state of nature are currently being promoted at the urban or regional level. Especially green roof will be able to not only provide the center of a city with a significant portion of green area but also help to relive heat island effect and improve micro climate by preventing concrete of a building from absorbing heat. According to a recent study, the temperature of green roof in the summer season shows a lower temperature than the outdoor temperature, but inversely the concrete surface shows a higher temperature. Accordingly, this study measured the surface temperature of buildings with green roof in Daejeon area in order to determine how the green roof system would have an impact on the distribution of surface temperature and did a comparative analysis of the distribution of the surface temperature of green roof vs non-green roof based on these theoretical considerations. As a result, it was found that the surface temperature of green roof was lower by $4{\sim}7^{\circ}C$ than that of non-green roof. This is expected to contribute to the mitigation of urban heat island effects.

  • The FORMOSAT-3/COSMIC mission is a micro satellite mission to deploy a constellation of six micro satellites at low Earth orbits. The final mission orbit is of an altitude of 750-800 lan. It is a collaborative Taiwan-USA science experiment. Each satellite consists of three science payloads in which the GPS occultation experiment (GOX) payload will collect the GPS signals for the studies of meteorology, climate, space weather, and geodesy. The GOX onboard FORMOSAT -3 is designed as a GPS receiver with 4 antennas. The fore and aft limb antennas are installed on the front and back sides, respectively, and as well as the two precise orbit determination (POD) antennas. The precise orbit information is needed for both the occultation inversion and geodetic research. However, the instrument associated errors, such as the antenna phase center offset and even the different cable delay due to the geometric configuration of fore- and aft-positions of the POD antennas produce error on the orbit. Thus, the focus of this study is to investigate the impact of POD antenna parameter on the determination of precise satellite orbit. Furthermore, the effect of the accuracy of the determined satellite orbit on the retrieved atmospheric and ionospheric parameters is also examined. The CHAMP data, the FORMOSAT-3 satellite and orbit parameters, the Bernese 5.0 software, and the occultation data processing system are used in this work. The results show that 8 cm error on the POD antenna phase center can result in ~8 cm bias on the determined orbit and subsequently cause 0.2 K deviation on the retrieved atmospheric temperature at altitudes above 10 lan.

  • Wood wastes could be renewable resources by recycling as particleboard manufacturing or energy production. Particle board is the most common item of wood waste recycling and energy production from wood wastes has highlighted for energy recovery to reduce greenhouse gas generation in recent years. The aim of this study was to evaluate the environmental benefits of the processes for particle board manufacturing and energy production. The functional unit was one ton of wood wastes and the environmental impact was analyzed by life cycle assessment methodology. The result was that 112kg of carbon dioxide equivalent was produced from particle board manufacturing process and 382kg of carbon dioxide equivalent was produced from combined heat and power generation process. The concept of temporary biomass carbon storage was to applied to this study.

Correlation and Hysteresis Analysis of Air-Water Temperature in Four Rivers: Preliminary study for water temperature prediction (우리나라 하천의 기온-수온의 상관관계 및 이력현상 분석: 미래 하천수온 변화 예측을 위한 사전검토)

  • The potential impact of water temperature on air temperature in response to recent anthropogenic global warming has been noticed. To predict climate, induced change in river aquatic environment, it is necessary to understand the thermal constrains of fish species and the timing of the projected river temperature. As a preliminary study, air-water temperature relationship was analyzed on the basis of the observed data during the time period of 2009-2011 and the number of data corresponds to 873-1083. As a result of analyzing the auto-and cross-correlation coefficient between air-water temperature, high correlation is shown (~0.9). It is also found that the correlation coefficient of air temperature is higher than that of water temperature at the lag time less than approximately 10 days. Observed data was divided into two groups to investigate hysteresis: rising limb and falling limb. For some stations there is strong evidence that hysteresis exist between air-water temperature relationships. Consequently it is recommended that seasonal hysteresis needs to be included in determining an airwater relationship.
