This study suggests integrated neural network models for Interest rate forecasting using change-point detection, classifiers, and classification functions based on structural change. The proposed model is composed of three phases with tee-staged learning. The first phase is to detect successive and appropriate structural changes in interest rare dataset. The second phase is to forecast change-point group with classifiers (discriminant analysis, logistic regression, and backpropagation neural networks) and their. combined classification functions. The fecal phase is to forecast the interest rate with backpropagation neural networks. We propose some classification functions to overcome the problems of two-staged learning that cannot measure the performance of the first learning. Subsequently, we compare the structured models with a neural network model alone and, in addition, determine which of classifiers and classification functions can perform better. This article then examines the predictability of the proposed classification functions for interest rate forecasting using structural change.
State-of-the-art speaker recognition systems may work better for the English language. However, if the same system is used for recognizing those who speak different languages, the systems may yield a poor performance. In this work, the decisions of a Gaussian mixture model-universal background model (GMM-UBM) and a learning vector quantization (LVQ) are combined to improve the recognition performance of a multilingual speaker identification system. The difference between these classifiers is in their modeling techniques. The former one is based on probabilistic approach and the latter one is based on the fine-tuning of neurons. Since the approaches are different, each modeling technique identifies different sets of speakers for the same database set. Therefore, the decisions of the classifiers may be used to improve the performance. In this study, multitaper mel-frequency cepstral coefficients (MFCCs) are used as the features and the monolingual and cross-lingual speaker identification studies are conducted using NIST-2003 and our own database. The experimental results show that the combined system improves the performance by nearly 10% compared with that of the individual classifier.
Ensemble classification is to utilize multiple classifiers instead of using a single classifier. Recently ensemble classifiers have attracted much attention in data mining community. Ensemble learning techniques has been proved to be very useful for improving the prediction accuracy. Bagging, boosting and random subspace are the most popular ensemble methods. In random subspace, each base classifier is trained on a randomly chosen feature subspace of the original feature space. The outputs of different base classifiers are aggregated together usually by a simple majority vote. In this study, we applied the random subspace method to the bankruptcy problem. Moreover, we proposed a method for optimizing the random subspace ensemble. The genetic algorithm was used to optimize classifier subset of random subspace ensemble for bankruptcy prediction. This paper applied the proposed genetic algorithm based random subspace ensemble model to the bankruptcy prediction problem using a real data set and compared it with other models. Experimental results showed the proposed model outperformed the other models.

In this paper, we propose a real-time people tracking system with multiple CCD cameras for security inside the building. The camera is mounted from the ceiling of the laboratory so that the image data of the passing people are fully overlapped. The implemented system recognizes people movement along various directions. To track people even when their images are partially overlapped, the proposed system estimates and tracks a bounding box enclosing each person in the tracking region. The approximated convex hull of each individual in the tracking area is obtained to provide more accurate tracking information. To achieve this goal, we propose a method for 3D walking human tracking based on the IMPRESARIO framework incorporating cascaded classifiers into hypothesis evaluation. The efficiency of adaptive selection of cascaded classifiers have been also presented. We have shown the improvement of reliability for likelihood calculation by using cascaded classifiers. Experimental results show that the proposed method can smoothly and effectively detect and track walking humans through environments such as dense forests.

Natural texts are analyzed to obtain their intended meaning to be classified depending on the problem under study. One way to represent words is by generating vectors of real values to encode the meaning; this is called word embedding. Similarities between word representations are measured to identify text class. Word embeddings can be created using word2vec technique. However, recently fastText was implemented to provide better results when it is used with classifiers. In this paper, we will study the performance of well-known classifiers when using both techniques for word embedding with Arabic dataset. We applied them to real data collected from Wikipedia, and we found that both word2vec and fastText had similar accuracy with all used classifiers.

COVID-19 is a viral pandemic disease that spreads widely all around the world. The only way to identify COVID-19 patients at an early stage is to stop the spread of the virus. Different approaches are used to diagnose, such as RT-PCR, Chest X-rays, and CT images. However, these are time-consuming and require a specialized lab. Therefore, there is a need to develop a time-efficient diagnosis method to detect COVID-19 patients. The proposed machine learning (ML) approach predicts the presence of coronavirus based on clinical symptoms. The clinical dataset is collected from the Israeli Ministry of Health. We used different ML classifiers (i.e., XGB, DT, RF, and NB) to diagnose COVID-19. Later, classifiers are optimized with the Bayesian hyperparameter optimization approach to improve the performance. The optimized RF outperformed the others and achieved an accuracy of 97.62% on the testing data that help the early diagnosis of COVID-19 patients.
Bankruptcy involves considerable costs, so it can have significant effects on a country's economy. Thus, bankruptcy prediction is an important issue. Over the past several decades, many researchers have addressed topics associated with bankruptcy prediction. Early research on bankruptcy prediction employed conventional statistical methods such as univariate analysis, discriminant analysis, multiple regression, and logistic regression. Later on, many studies began utilizing artificial intelligence techniques such as inductive learning, neural networks, and case-based reasoning. Currently, ensemble models are being utilized to enhance the accuracy of bankruptcy prediction. Ensemble classification involves combining multiple classifiers to obtain more accurate predictions than those obtained using individual models. Ensemble learning techniques are known to be very useful for improving the generalization ability of the classifier. Base classifiers in the ensemble must be as accurate and diverse as possible in order to enhance the generalization ability of an ensemble model. Commonly used methods for constructing ensemble classifiers include bagging, boosting, and random subspace. The random subspace method selects a random feature subset for each classifier from the original feature space to diversify the base classifiers of an ensemble. Each ensemble member is trained by a randomly chosen feature subspace from the original feature set, and predictions from each ensemble member are combined by an aggregation method. The k-nearest neighbors (KNN) classifier is robust with respect to variations in the dataset but is very sensitive to changes in the feature space. For this reason, KNN is a good classifier for the random subspace method. The KNN random subspace ensemble model has been shown to be very effective for improving an individual KNN model. The k parameter of KNN base classifiers and selected feature subsets for base classifiers play an important role in determining the performance of the KNN ensemble model. However, few studies have focused on optimizing the k parameter and feature subsets of base classifiers in the ensemble. This study proposed a new ensemble method that improves upon the performance KNN ensemble model by optimizing both k parameters and feature subsets of base classifiers. A genetic algorithm was used to optimize the KNN ensemble model and improve the prediction accuracy of the ensemble model. The proposed model was applied to a bankruptcy prediction problem by using a real dataset from Korean companies. The research data included 1800 externally non-audited firms that filed for bankruptcy (900 cases) or non-bankruptcy (900 cases). Initially, the dataset consisted of 134 financial ratios. Prior to the experiments, 75 financial ratios were selected based on an independent sample t-test of each financial ratio as an input variable and bankruptcy or non-bankruptcy as an output variable. Of these, 24 financial ratios were selected by using a logistic regression backward feature selection method. The complete dataset was separated into two parts: training and validation. The training dataset was further divided into two portions: one for the training model and the other to avoid overfitting. The prediction accuracy against this dataset was used to determine the fitness value in order to avoid overfitting. The validation dataset was used to evaluate the effectiveness of the final model. A 10-fold cross-validation was implemented to compare the performances of the proposed model and other models. To evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed model, the classification accuracy of the proposed model was compared with that of other models. The Q-statistic values and average classification accuracies of base classifiers were investigated. The experimental results showed that the proposed model outperformed other models, such as the single model and random subspace ensemble model.
This paper aims to describe KorLexClas 1.5 which provides us with a very large list of Korean numeral classifiers, and with the co-occurring noun categories that select each numeral classifier. Differently from KorLex of other POS, of which the structure depends largely on their reference model (Princeton WordNet), KorLexClas 1.0 and its extended version 1.5 adopt a direct building method. They demand a considerable time and expert knowledge to establish the hierarchies of numeral classifiers and the relationships between lexical items. For the efficiency of construction as well as the reliability of KorLexClas 1.5, we use following processes: (1) to use various language resources while their cross-checking for the selection of classifier candidates; (2) to extend the list of numeral classifiers by using a shallow parsing techniques; (3) to set up the hierarchies of the numeral classifiers based on the previous linguistic studies; and (4) to determine LUB(Least Upper Bound) of the numeral classifiers in KorLexNoun 1.5. The last process provides the open list of the co-occurring nouns for KorLexClas 1.5 with the extensibility. KorLexClas 1.5 is expected to be used in a variety of NLP applications, including MT.

Often the accuracy is not adequate as a performance measure of classifiers when costs are different for different prediction errors. ROC and cost graphs can be used in such case to compare and identify cost-sensitive classifiers. We extend ROC and cost graphs so that they can be used when more general cost matrix is given, where not only misclassifications but correct classifications also incur penalties.
