  • Recently, researches on analyzing relationship between the state of emotion and musical stimuli are increasing. In many previous works, data sets from all extracted channels are used for pattern classification. But these methods have problems in computational complexity and inaccuracy. This paper proposes a selection of optimal EEG channel to reflect the state of emotion efficiently according to music listening by analyzing stochastic feature vectors. This makes EEG pattern classification relatively simple by reducing the number of dataset to process.

  • In this paper, a transient identification based on a Hidden Markov Model (HMM) has been suggested and evaluated experimentally for the classification of transients in the dynamic process. The transient can be identified by its unique time dependent patterns related to the principal variables. The HMM, a double stochastic process, can be applied to transient identification which is a spatial and temporal classification problem under a statistical pattern recognition framework. The HMM is created for each transient from a set of training data by the maximum-likelihood estimation method. The transient identification is determined by calculating which model has the highest probability for the given test data. Several experimental tests have been performed with normalization methods, clustering algorithms, and a number of states in HMM. Several experimental tests have been performed including superimposing random noise, adding systematic error, and untrained transients. The proposed real-time transient identification system has many advantages, however, there are still a lot of problems that should be solved to apply to a real dynamic process. Further efforts are being made to improve the system performance and robustness to demonstrate reliability and accuracy to the required level.

  • In pattern classification, feature selection is an important factor in the performance of classifiers. In particular, when classifying a large number of features or variables, the accuracy and computational time of the classifier can be improved by using the relevant feature subset to remove the irrelevant, redundant, or noisy data. The proposed method consists of two parts: a wrapper part with an improved genetic algorithm(GA) using a new reproduction method and a filter part using mutual information. We also considered feature selection methods based on mutual information(MI) to improve computational complexity. Experimental results show that this method can achieve better performance in pattern recognition problems than other conventional solutions.

  • Finding influential factors from given clustering result is a typical data science problem. Genetic Algorithm based method is proposed to derive influential factors and its performance is compared with two conventional methods, Classification and Regression Tree (CART) and Chi-Squared Automatic Interaction Detection (CHAID), by using Dunn's index measure. To extract the influential factors of preference towards political parties in South Korea, the vote result of $18^{th}$ presidential election and 'Demographic', 'Health and Welfare', 'Economic' and 'Business' related data were used. Based on the analysis, reverse engineering was implemented. Implementation of reverse engineering based approach for influential factor analysis can provide new set of influential variables which can present new insight towards the data mining field.

  • The area under the ROC curve (AUC), the volume under the ROC surface (VUS) and the hypervolume under the ROC manifold (HUM) are defined and interpreted with probability that measures the discriminant power of classification models. AUC, VUS and HUM are expressed with the summation and integration notations for discrete and continuous random variables, respectively. AUC for discrete two random samples is represented as the nonparametric Mann-Whitney statistic. In this work, we define conditional Mann-Whitney statistics to compare more than two discrete random samples as well as propose that VUS and HUM are represented as functions of the conditional Mann-Whitney statistics. Three and four discrete random samples with some tie values are generated. Values of VUS and HUM are obtained using the proposed statistic. The values of VUS and HUM are identical with those obtained by definition; therefore, both VUS and HUM could be represented with conditional Mann-Whitney statistics proposed in this paper.

  • In the continuous casting process, the incidence of transverse surface cracks on the piece may occur by multiple and diverse variables. It is noted that mathematical models may predict only the occurance of the transverse surface cracks, but can require a lot of time (more than three days) to produce a result with this process. This study applied neural networks to predict whether the cracks on the piece surface occurs or does not occur. The computation time was shortened to three minutes, making it applicable to an on-line program, which predicts the non-cracks or cracks of the piece surface in the actual continuous casting process. In addition, the operating conditions to prevent the occurrence of the transverse surface cracks, using decision boundaries were also suggested.

  • In many decision making systems, rule-based approaches are used to solve complex problems in the areas of pattern analysis and computer vision. In this paper, we present methods for generating fuzzy IF-THEN rules automatically from training data for pattern classification and high-level computer vision. The rules are generated by construction minimal approximate fuzzy aggregation networks and then training the networks using gradient descent methods. The training data that represent features are treated as linguistic variables that appear in the antecedent clauses of the rules. Methods to generate the corresponding linguistic labels(values) and their membership functions are presented. In addition, an inference procedure is employed to deduce conclusions from information presented to our rule-base. Two experimental results involving synthetic and real are given.

  • This paper proposed the technique of the fault-types classification using Adaptive Network Fuzzy Inference System in the distribution system. Fault and fault-like data in the linear RL load, arc furnace load and converter load were extracted by EMTP. These were characterized into 5 input variables and fuzzified automatically by learning. This technique was tested using another fault data unused learning.

  • South Korea is divided into five ecoprovinces and sixteen ecoregions. The criteria for ecoprovince classification are ecosystem connectivity and cultural homogeneity. Ecoregions are classified by cluster analysis. The variables used in the analysis are latitude, longitude, seasonal mean temperature, and seasonal precipitation. The large forest fires occurred in the specific ecoregions including Kangwon coastal ecoregion, WoolYoung coastal ecoregion, Hyungsan Taehwa coastal ecoregion, Upper Nagdong river basin ecoregion and Southeastern inland ecoregion. The largest forest fire in the korean history occurred in Kangwon coastal ecoregion in the year 2000. The fire devastated the forestland over 25,000ha. Korea Forest Service, Ministry of Environment, Province Kangwon and NGO organized an investigation committee for the restoration of the burnt area. The committee suggested restoration principles and also forged a restoration strategy of the Kangwon burnt area.

  • The purpose of this research is stability estimation of plant structure through classification and recognition about welding flaw in SWP(Spiral Welding Pipe). And, In this research, we used nondestructive test based on ultrasonic test as inspection method, and made up 2-axes inspection robot in order to control of ultrasonic probe on the SWP surface, and programmed to image processing and probabilistic neural network(PNN) classifying code by MATLAB programming. Through this process, we proved efficiency on the system of SWP stability Estimation.
