Generalizations of Dixon's and Whipple's Theorems on the Sum of a 3F2

  • InIn this paper we consider generalizations of the classical Dixon's theorem and the classical Whipple's theorem on the sum of a $_3F_2$. The results are derived with the help of generalized Watson's theorem obtained earlier by Mitra. A large number of results contiguous to Dixon's and Whipple's theorems obtained earlier by Lavoie, Grondin and Rathie, and Lavoie, Grondin, Rathie and Arora follow special cases of our main findings.

Finite-element Method for Heat Transfer Problem in Hydrodynamic Lubrication

  • Galerkin's finite element method is applied to a two-dimensional heat convection-diffusion problem arising in the hydrodynamic lubrication of thrust bearings used in naval vessels. A parabolized thermal energy equation for the lubricant, and thermal diffusion equations for both bearing pad and the collar are treated together, with proper juncture conditions on the interface boundaries. it has been known that a numerical instability arises when the classical Galerkin's method, which is equivalent to a centered difference approximation, is applied to a parabolic-type partial differential equation. Probably the simplest remedy for this instability is to use a one-sided finite difference formula for the first derivative term in the finite difference method. However, in the present coupled heat convection-diffusion problem in which the governing equation is parabolized in a subdomain(Lubricant), uniformly stable numerical solutions for a wide range of the Peclet number are obtained in the numerical test based on Galerkin's classical finite element method. In the present numerical convergence errors in several error norms are presented in the first model problem. Additional numerical results for a more realistic bearing lubrication problem are presented for a second numerical model.

과거의 의서에서부터 당대의 실천까지 : 『소문대요』, 소문학회, 그리고 동아시아 의학전통의 전승을 바라보는 의료인류학적 시선 (From Classical Texts in the Past to Practices in the Present : An Anthropological Exploration of 『Somun Daeyo』, Somun Hakhoe, and the Transmission of East Asian Medical Tradition)

  • This study examines the meaning of classical texts in contemporary society. Drawing on an anthropological investigation of Somun Hakhoe, an association of Korean medicine doctors in South Korea, and its foundational text "Somun Daeyo", the present study explores the interconnectedness of medical texts and medico-social practices in bringing medical tradition into the contemporary era. The themes that author Lee Kyu-joon emphasizes in "Somun Daeyo" are thoroughly embodied in Somun Hakhoe's medico-social practices, such as the study activities based on "Somun Daeyo"(in particular, on Somun Buseol, the five articles written by the author, attached to "Somun Daeyo"), the focus on Buyang theory(扶陽論), and the distinctive feature of composing formula. The ethnographic data collected about the group activities of Somun Hakhoe also demonstrate that the social relationship of the teacher and disciples plays an important role in bringing East Asian medicine into the present. This study articulates the significance of the interaction between the classical text and the medico-social practices around it. The dynamism taking place in the interaction points to the "living tradition" actively flowing rather than being static in the past. This study illustrates the close relationship between medical history and medical anthropology and encourages more studies of classical texts based on the intimate relationship between the two disciplines.

  • Indications of Galgeunhaegi-tang(葛根解肌湯) for Taeeum-type on "Donguisusebowon" are small. Therefore, indications of Galgeunhaegi-tang for Taeeum-type need to be extended for broader clinical use. There would be some methods to do that, and we could review "Dongeuibogam" that Four-Constitution Medicine formulas are based on. We reviewed Galgeunhaegi-tang, which is the origin of Galgeunhaegi-tang, and their modified formula(加減方) on "Dongeuibogam". As a result, we supposed 10 indications of non-classical formula(後世方) Galgeunhaegi-tang as possible indications of Galgeunhaegi-tang for Taeeum-type.

  • 업링크와 다운링크 경로상에 각각 가산성 백색 가우스잡음이 존재하는 이동 위성 통신로에서 TWTA의 비성형성에 의한 BPSK신호와 QPSK신호의 오율성능을 조사하였따. 다운링크 경로상의 페이딩은 Rice분포를 한다고 가정하였다. Rice 분포에 대한 근사 이산 확률분포를 고전적인 모멘트 기법(CMT)을 이용하여 처음으로 유도하였다. 최종적으로 오율은 근사 이산 확률 분포와 Gauss Quadrature Formula를 이용하여 계산하였다.

THE GREEN FUNCTION AND THE SZEGŐ KERNEL FUNCTION

  • In this paper, we express the Green function in terms of the classical kernel functions in potential theory. In particular, we obtain a formula relating the Green function and the Szegő kernel function which consists of only the Szegő kernel function in a $C^{\infty}$ smoothly bounded finitely connected domain in the complex plane.

  • We give a new characterization of the solutions set of the general (inconsistent) linear least-squares problem using the set of linit-points of an extended version of the classical Daczmarz's pro-jections method. We also obtain a "step error reduction formula" which in some cases can give us apriori information about the con-vergence properties of the algorithm. Some numerical experiments with our algorithm and comparisons between it and others existent in the literature are made in the last section of the paper.

  • A.Satyanarayana와 다른이들은 [1.2.5]에서 domination이론을 사용하여 네트워크의 정확한 신뢰도 계산을 위한 새로운 topologic formel을 발견하였다. 이들은 이식을 통하여 그래프 G로 표현되는 어떤 시스템이나 네트워크의 신뢰도 계산을 위하여 path 또는 k-tree를 사용한 Inclusion-Exclusion식에 나타나는 항들(=2$^{m}$ -1, m은 path나 k-tree의 수)중 서로 소거되지 않는 항들은 그래프 G의 acyclic k-부분그래프(subgraph)와 1대 1로 상응되며, cyclic-과 k-부분그래프들에 상응되는 항들은 소거되어지거나 Inclusion-Exclusion식에 나타나지 않는 -결국 신뢰도계산에 필요없는- 항들임을 밝혔다. 이들은 이성질을 이용하여 그래프 G의 정확한 신뢰도계산을 위한 빠른 알고리즘을 제시하였다. 이 알고리즘은 결국 그래프 G의 path나 k-tree를 기초로 하는 Inclusion-Exclusion식에서 나타나는 항들중 소거되지 않는 항들에 1:1로 대응하는 acyclic k-subgraph만을 찾아 신뢰도계산을 할수있게 하여 준다. 이때 acyclic k-subgraph들은 각각의 domination을 갖으며, 이들은 Inclusion-Exclusion식에서 대응되는 항의 부호들의 합과 같다. 본 논문에서는 첫째로 신뢰도계산을 위하여 주어진 어떤 그래프 G에서 G를 구성하는 선(edge)을 기초로 하는 어떤 임의로 주어진 family M(G) (예: cutset이나 path, 또는 k-tree 등의 family)에 의한 (부분)그래프의 domination에 대한 성질을 관찰하고 몇가지 식을 유도한후, k-tree의 family K(G)를 기초로 한 어떤 그래프의 domination과 Inclusion-Exclusion식과의 관계를 고찰하고, 이식의 강력함과 응용의 가능성을 A. Satyanarayana의 topologic formel의 재증명을 통하여 보인다.

LE analysis on unsaturated slope stability with introduction of nonlinearity of soil strength

  • Based on the effective stress principle, a new formula for shear strength of unsaturated soil is derived under the general nonlinear Mohr-Coulomb (M-C) strength criterion to improve the classical strength criterion of unsaturated soil. Meanwhile, the simple irrigation model under steady seepage is adopted to obtain the distribution of the matrix suction or the degree of saturation (DOS) above the groundwater table in the slope. Then, combined with the improved strength criterion of unsaturated soil and the simple irrigation model under steady seepage, the limit equilibrium (LE) solutions for the unsaturated slope stability are established according to the global LE conditions of the entire sliding body with assumption of the stresses on the slip surface. Compared to the classical strength criterion of unsaturated soil, not only the cohesion soil but also the internal friction angle is affected by the matric suction or the DOS in the improved strength criterion. Moreover, the internal friction angle related to the matric suction has the nonlinear characteristics, particularly for a small of the matric suction. Thereafter, the feasibility of the present method is verified by comparison and analysis on some slope examples. Furthermore, stability charts are also drawn to quickly analyze the unsaturated slope stability.
