  • Function of battery bank stores energy for DC load in general, and DC power system of the nuclear power plant is used to supply DC loads for safety- featured instrumentation and control such as inverter, class 1E power system control and indication, and station annunciation. Class 1E DC power system must provide a power for the design basis accident conditions, and adequate capacity must be available during loss of AC power and subsequent safe shutdown of the plant. In present, batteries of Class 1E DC power system of the nuclear power plant uses lead-acid batteries. Class 1E batteries of nuclear power plants in Korea are summarized in terms of specification, such as capacity, discharge rate, bank configuration and discharge end voltage, etc. This paper summarizes standards of determining battery size for the nuclear power plant, and analyzes duty cycle for the class 1E DC power system of nuclear power plant. Then, battery cell size is calculated as 2613Ah according to the standard. In addition, this paper analyzes performance test results during past 13 years and shows performance degradation in the battery bank. Performance tests in 2001 and 2005 represent that entire battery cells do not reach the discharge-end voltage. Howeyer, the discharge-end voltage is reached in 14.7% of channel A (17 EA), 13.8% of channel B (16 EA), 5.2% of channel C (6 EA) and 16.4% of channel D (19 EA) at 2011 performance test. Based on the performance test results analysis and size calculation, battery capacity and degradation by age in Korearn nuclear power plant is discussed and would be used for new design.

  • In this paper, the generation of the intensive ultrasonic waves depend mainly on the energy convention efficiency depending on high frequency oscillation of the generator and the control performance of stable output depending on iode variation. As a result, the ultrasonic generator obtained of 95% differency with 28khz.

  • A coupled magnetic resonance system (CMRS) using compact coil sets with core driven by a class-E inverter was proposed. The source and load coils of conventional CMRS were replaced with two coils containing core so that the system can be quite compact in size and easy to design due to a resonance frequency for all resonant tanks regardless of coupling factor. Experiments for 500 kHz switching frequency show 40% system efficiency.

  • This paper presents a 37.5kVA (125kVp, 300mA) high frequency inverter type power supply for diagonostic X-ray generator with two HFHV (high-frequency high-voltage) isolating transformers. The output regulations, X-ray tuve voltage and tube current, are obtained by two high frequency inverters with the each other feedback PI controller and operating time switch for selecting shooting time and synchronizing two inverters. The operating modes and design consideration of the proposed power supply are given. Issues in the design of two HFHV isolating transformersfors high volage genrating and filament heating are discussed. Experimental results are presented to verify the performance of the designed power supply for varying load conditions. The proposed apparatus has several advnatages, e.g., the fast rising time of tube voltae, accuracy and reduced component size etc.

  • This paper presents a simple high power audio class amplifier which is controlled by a new current control switching method. Although this class D amplifier has an only one current control loop with the proposed switching method, a good performance can be obtained. And a novel switching strategy for driving stereo signal amplifier circuit with three phase full bridge is discussed also. With the simulation and experimental results, usefulness of the proposed amplifier is confirmed.

  • In systems in which inductive coupling between a pancake-shaped coil on the surface of the body and a similar coil within the body is utilized for the transfort of electromagnetic energy, the minimization of temperature rise in the tissue is intimately related to the achievement of minimum losses in the region of the implanted coil. The new class of amplifiers, named "class E", for inverter is defined and is illustrated by a detailed description and a set of desist equations for one simple member of the class. For TET circuit the authors measured 65 to 76 percent efficiency at 1985kHz at 30 to 50 W output from IRF250 MOSFET transistor.

  • The battery energy storage system has been studied and adopted actively by foreign advanced utilities to use off-peak energy. Korea electro-technology research institute & KEPCO developed a small scale battery energy storage system. This system is composed of a voltage type self commutating inverter and 180 cells of 500 AH lead acid battery. Using the result of operation of the system, we make a conceptual design of MW class system.

  • An explicit frequency-domain circuit model for the conventional coupled magnetic resonance system (CMRS) is newly proposed in this paper. Detail circuit parameters such as the leakage inductances, magnetizing inductances, turn-ratios, internal coil resistances, and source/load resistances are explicitly included in the model. Accurate overall system efficiency, DC gain, and key design parameters are deduced from the model in closed form equations, which were not available in previous works. It has been found that the CMRS can be simply described by an equivalent voltage source, resistances, and ideal transformers when it is resonated to a specified frequency in the steady state. It has been identified that the voltage gain of the CMRS was saturated to a specific value although the source side or the load side coils were strongly coupled. The phase differences between adjacent coils were ${\pi}/2$, which should be considered for the EMF cancellations. The analysis results were verified by simulations and experiments. A detailed circuit-parameter-based model was verified by experiments for 500 kHz by using a new experimental kit with a class-E inverter. The experiments showed a transfer of 1.38 W and a 40 % coil to coil efficiency.

  • In this paper, In order to solve the problem is proposed using a new type of electronic ballast that the traditional magnetic ballasts operated at 50-60Hz have been suffered from noticeable flicker, high loss, large crest factor and heavy weight which is composed of rectifier, active power corrector, series resonant half bridge inverter, micro-controller and piezoelectric transformer for driving for driving T5 fluorescent lamp were manufactured. The proposed electronic ballast operated at high frequency (about 75kHz) shows a input power factor of more than 0.995, total harmonic distortion of less than $12\%$ and lamp current crest factor of less than 1.5, respectively. Output power and efficiency showed 28w and $85\%$, respectively. Accordingly, it is considered that the ballast using piezoelectric transformer can replace the typical electronic ballast.
