  • A class of functions involving divided differences of the psi and tri-gamma functions and originating from Kershaw's double inequality are proved to be completely monotonic. As applications of these results, the monotonicity and convexity of a function involving the ratio of two gamma functions and originating from the establishment of the best upper and lower bounds in Kershaw's double inequality are derived, two sharp double inequalities involving ratios of double factorials are recovered, the probability integral or error function is estimated, a double inequality for ratio of the volumes of the unit balls in $\mathbb{R}^{n-1}$ and $\mathbb{R}^n$ respectively is deduced, and a symmetrical upper and lower bounds for the gamma function in terms of the psi function is generalized.

  • The purpose of this study was to apply the instruction consulting model for elementary science lesson with novice teacher. In this study the PIE(Preparation, Implementation and Evaluation stage) instruction consulting model was used. This model was introduced and offered during the electromagnet unit for sixth graders. The results of this study were as follows. First, in the assessment of the teacher's satisfaction with the instruction consulting the client teacher was found to be very satisfied. Second, the inquiry and scientific achievement for the students of the client's class were to increase in the experimental group, which demonstrated a statistically significant difference. Given the above results, the instruction consulting applied with the PIE model for novice teachers, who desire to raise the success rate of the experiment for students in the electromagnet unit of the elementary science class, helped the teachers to teach the students.

  • This research explored the importance of conflict resolution in communication between adolescents and their parents. A teaching and learning plan on communication using the Active listening, I-message method and no-lose conflict resolution method was developed and applied to teaching the 'Communication among Family Members' unit in the middle school home economics and technology textbook. The experimental class of 203 students using the active listening, I message and no-lose conflict resolution method in communication was compared with a comparative class of 163 students using only the active listening and I message method, investigating the amounts of communication, conflicts, functional communication and degree of satisfaction the students perceived regarding relationships with their parents via pre and post tests. Both groups showed significant increases in their amounts of communication and functional communication. However, only the experimental class showed an increase in their degree of relationship satisfaction with their parents. Both groups evaluated the lesson positively.

  • This study investigated the impact of elementary school science classes based on collaborative problem-solving on the character competency of students. For this purpose, students from 2 classes in 5th grade at an elementary school in a metropolitan city were targeted, and elementary science classes based on collaborative problem-solving were developed and applied to the 5 topics selected from the 'dissolution and solution' unit in the elementary science curriculum. In order to investigate the effect of science class based on collaborative problem-solving on the character competency of students, results of the character competence test before and after the class, reflective writing activity sheets filled out by the students in the experimental group, and questionnaires regarding their changes in character competency after the class were analyzed. The results showed that elementary science classes based on collaborative problem-solving were effective in cultivating the character competence of elementary school students.

  • Tumor cell interaction with the extracellular matrix is defined as the critical event of tumor invasion that signals the initiation of a metastatic cascade. Sesquicillin has been identified as an inhibitor of melanoma cell adhesion to the components of the extracellular matrix (ECM) in cultured broth of fungal strain F60063. Sesquicillin strongly inhibited the adhesion of B16 melanoma cells to laminin, fibronectin, and typeIV collagen. It also inhibited B16 melanoma cell invasion of reconstituted basement membrane Matrigel in vitro in a dose-dependent manner. These results suggest that sesquicillin is a new class of nonpeptidic ECM adhesion inhibitor having anti-invasive activity.

  • A cross-sectional survey was conducted among 730 participants from 4 rural districts of Nakhon Ratchasima province, Thailand, with a reported high incidence of liver fluke infection. This study was aimed to examine and evaluate the nutritional status in relation to Opisthorchis viverrini infection. Participants were purposive selected from Chum Phuang, Mueang Yang, Bua Yai, and Kaeng Sanam Nang districts. Stool samples were prepared by Kato Katz technique and then assessed by microscopy. Anthropometry was evaluated according to the body mass index from weight and height. Descriptive statistics and Spearman rank correlation coefficients were used to evaluate the association between the nutritional status and O. viverrini infection. Of 1.64% infected with O. viverrini the highest proportions were found in age groups ${\geq}61$ and 41-50 years old, Mueang Yang district. The majorities of participants had normal weight (32.2%), followed by class II obesity (28.1 %), class I obesity (21.8%), underweight (10.3%), and class III obesity (8.63%). Nutritional status with class II obesity (rS=0.639, p<0.01) and class I obesity (rS=0.582, p<0.05), had moderately statistical significant correlations with O. viverrini infection. Meanwhile, normal weight (rS=0.437, p<0.05) and class III obesity (rS=0.384, p<0.05) demonstrated lower statistical significance. These findings raise the possibility that infection with O. viverrini may contribute to fat deposition and thereby have long-term consequences on human health. Further studies are needed to better understand whether O. viverrini contributes directly to fat deposition and possible mechanisms.

  • The purpose of this study is to compare of learning effects between the inquiry training model and traditional lecture method in the unit of food and nutrition of home economics in the middle school and propose a teaching-learning method of home economics in the middle school. For this study I sampled one hundred students both male and female who were in the first grade students of middle school in Ansan city. The students were divided into two groups each of which was composed of one male class and one female class. One was called the inquiry training model group, which was taught by the inquiry training model, the other the traditional lecture method group, which was taught by traditional lecture method .They learned about food and nutrition unit during the same time. To evaluate the effectiveness of learning, learning achievement degree, instruction interest degree, and the powers of exploration process, a creativity lest by using a Questionnaire was gIven. The resuits of this study are as follows: 1. In the traditional lecture method group between the inquiry training model one, the difference of learning achievement degree was not significant. The score of learning achieve ment degree in the inquiry training group, the female class got higher scores than .the maleone, but the difference was not significant. 2. In the test of instruction interest degree, the traditional lecture method group got higher scores than the inquiry training model one. (p<.001.). In the inquiry training group the male class got higher scores than the f ema Ie one. (p < .001 ) 3. In the test of powers of exploration process, the traditional lecture method group got higher scores than the inquiry training model one.( p< .00 1). In the inquiry training group, the male class got higher scores than the female one, but the difference was not significant. 4. In the test of creativity, the traditional lecture method group got higher scores than the inquiry training one. (p < .00 1). In the inquiry training group, the female class got higher scores than the male one, but the difference was not significant Therefore, the inquiry training model is the more effective instruction model for both male and female students, rather than the traditional lecture method for instruction interest de¬gree, powers of exploration process, creativity and extends instruction interest degree for the male studentsale students.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the characteristics and differences of gesture between career teachers and novice teachers in elementary science class. In order to analyze the gesture of elementary science teachers, gesture analysis framework was developed. The teachers who participated in the experiment were 2 beginner teachers and 2 career teachers. We analyzed 'bones and muscles', 'digestion', 'breathing', and 'excretion' of 'body' section in the second semester of 5th grade. The video recording of the class scene with the camcorder was recorded and analyzed by Observer XT. The results of this study are summarized as follows. First, the career teacher lessens unnecessary gestures than the novice teacher. During the class, the career teachers lessened the gestures not related to the context of the class. These differences were more prominent in the activities of the group with many unexpected situations than those of the teachers who prepared the class contents. Second, career teachers have more communication control act than novice teachers. Career teachers have often made adjustments to induce learner presentations or control unnecessary utterances. Third, career teachers efficiently interacted with learners using gestures that can enhance communication.
