The effects of intermediate annealing (IA) and the final cold rolling (CR) condition on the microstructure and sagging resistance during brazing were investigated using three layer clad sheets composed of the Al-7.5 wt.%Si alloy (filler, thickness: 10 ㎛)/Al-1.3 wt.%Mn based alloy (core, 80㎛)/Al-7.5 wt.%Si alloy (filler, 10㎛). Also, the effect of 1.2∼2 wt.% Zn addition into the core on the sagging resistance of the clad sheets was determined. It was revealed that all the clad sheets fabricated by the optimum condition (IA at 690 K and CR to 20∼45%) show excellent sagging resistance with a limited erosion due to the formation of a coarsely recrystallized grain structure in the core during brazing. It was also revealed that the recrystallization behavior of the Al-1.3 wt.%Mn based alloy is hardly affected by the addition of 1.2-2 wt.%Zn during the brazing cycle. Therefore, the sagging resistance of the clad sheets is found to be governed not by the Zn content added in the A1-1.3wt.%Mn based core, but by the intermediate annealing and final cold rolling condition.
This study produced hypereutectic Al-Si clad layer on 1050 Al alloy by a novel laser cladding method. Pure Si powder was mixed with organic binder to make fluid paste which could be screen-printed on the 1050 Al alloy plate. Pulsed Nd:YAG laser was irradiated on the Si paste layer to melt and alloy with Al substrate. Different laser power of 99 W, 179 W and 261 W, was used to see the difference of the microstructure, composition and hardness of the clad layers. When laser power of 179 W was used, the clad layer had overall Si content of 38wt% and composed of fine primary Si particles and fine eutectic phase. At laser power of 261 W, the clad layer had overall Si content of 24wt% and composed of mainly fine eutectic phase. Vickers hardness of HV176.7 and HV150.3 on the clad layer was obtained at laser power of 179 W and 261 W, respectively.
Recently, in order to enhance the function and usefulness of products, cladding of dissimilar materials that maximizes the performance of the material is being widely used in all areas of industry as an important process. Clad steel plate, produced by cladding stainless steel plate, an anticorrosive material, on carbon steel plate, is being used to produce pressure vessels. Stainless steel plate has good corrosion resistance, and carbon steel plate has good rigidity and strength; clad steel can satisfy all of these qualities at once. This study aims to find the ${\delta}$-ferrite behavior, mechanical properties, structure change, integrity and reliability of clad steel weld on hot rolled steel plates. For this purpose, multi-layer welding, repair welding and post weld heat treatment were implemented according to welding procedure specifications (WPS). In order to observe the mechanical properties and toughness of clad steel weld zone, post weld heat treatment was carried out according to ASME Sec. VIII Div.1 UW-40 procedure for post weld heat treatment. With heat treatment at $625^{\circ}C$, the hold time was used as the process variable, increased by intervals that were doubled each time, from 80 to 1,280 min. The structure of weld part was typical cast structure; localized primary austenite areas appeared near central vermicular ferrite and fusion line. The heat affected zone showed rough austenite structure created by the weld heat input. Due to annealing effects of heat treatment, the mechanical properties (tensile strength, hardness, impact value) of the heat affected area tended to decrease. From the results of this study, it is possible to conclude the integrity of clad steel welds is not affected much in field welding, repair welding, multi-layer welding, post weld heat treatment, etc.
The confirmed integrity of nuclear fuel cladding materials is an important object during steady state and transient operations at nuclear power plant. In this context, the clad material yielding behavior is especially important because of pellet-clad gap expansion. During the steep power excursion, the in-pile irradiation behavior differences between uranium-dioxide fuel pellet and zircaloy clad induce the contact pressure between them. If this pressure reaches the zircaloy clad yield pressure, the zircaloy clad will be plastically deformed. After the reactor power resumed to normal state, this plastic permanent expansion of clad tube give rise to the pellet-clad gap expansion. In this paper, the simple mandrel expansion test method which utilizes thermal expansion difference between copper mandrel and zircaloy tube was adopted to simulate this phenomenon. That is, copper mandrel which has approximately three times of thermal expansion coefficient of zircaloy-4 (PWR fuel cladding material) were used in this experiment at the temperature range from 400C to 700C. The measured plastic expansion of zircaloy outer radius and derived mathematical relations give the yield pressure, yield stress of zircaloy-4 clad at the various clad wall temperatures, the activation energy of zircaloy tube yielding, and pellet-clad gap expansion. The obtained results are in good agreement with previous experimental results. The mathematical analysis and simple test method prove to be a reliable and simple technique to assess the yielding behavior and gap expansion measurement between zircaloy-4 tube and uranium-dioxide fuel pellet under biaxial stress conditions.

Warm, forming technique which is one of the new forming technologies to improve formability of sheet metal is applied to the cylindrical cup drawing of stainless-aluminum. clad sheets. In experiments the temperature of die and blank holder is varied from room temperature to 18$0^{\circ}C$, while the punch is cooled by circulation of coolant to increase the fracture strength of workpiece on the punch corner area. Test materials chosen for experiments are STS304-A1050-STS304, STS304-A1050-STS430 clad sheets and A1050-0 aluminum sheet. Teflon film as a lubricant is used on both sides of a workpiece. The limit drawing ratio as well as quality of drawn cups(distribution of thickness and hardness)are investigated and validity of warm drawing process is also discussed.

SA508 Gr.4N Ni-Cr-Mo low alloy steel, in which Ni and Cr contents are higher than in commercial SA508 Gr.3 Mn-Mo-Ni low alloy steels, may be a candidate reactor pressure vessel (RPV) material with higher strength and toughness from its tempered martensitic microstructure. The inner surface of the RPV is weld-cladded with stainless steels to prevent corrosion. The goal of this study is to evaluate the microstructural properties of the clad interface between Ni-Cr-Mo low alloy steel and stainless weldment, and the effects of post weld heat treatment (PWHT) on the properties. The properties of the clad interface were compared with those of commercial Mn-Mo-Ni low alloy steel. Multi-layer welding of model alloys with ER308L and ER309L stainless steel by the SAW method was performed, and then PWHT was conducted at $610^{\circ}C$ for 30 h. The microstructural changes of the clad interface were analyzed using OM, SEM and TEM, and micro-Vickers hardness tests were performed. Before PWHT, the heat affected zone (HAZ) showed higher hardness than base and weld metals due to formation of martensite after welding in both steels. In addition, the hardness of the HAZ in Ni-Cr-Mo low alloy steel was higher than that in Mn-Mo-Ni low alloy steel due to a comparatively high martensite fraction. The hardness of the HAZ decreased after PWHT in both steels, but the dark region was formed near the fusion line in which the hardness was locally high. In the case of Mn-Mo-Ni low alloy steel, formation of fine Cr-carbides in the weld region near the fusion line by diffusion of C from the base metal resulted in locally high hardness in the dark region. However, the precipitates of the region in the Ni-Cr-Mo low alloy steel were similar to that in the base metal, and the hardness in the region was not greatly different from that in the base metal.
In order to fabricate adhesiveless 2-layer flexible copper clad laminate (FCCL) used for COF (chip on film) with high peel strength, polyimide (PI; Kapton-EN, $38\;{\mu}m$) surface was modified by reactive $O_2^+$ and $N_2O^+$ ion beam irradiation. 300 mm-long linear electron-Hall drift ion source was used for ion irradiation with ion current density (J) higher than $0.5\;mA/cm^2$ and energy lower than 200 eV. By vacuum web coating process, PI surface was modified by linear ion source and then 10-20 nm thick Ni-Cr and 200 nm thick Cu film were in-situ sputtered as a tie layer and seed layer, respectively. Above this sputtered layer, another $8-9{\mu}m$ thick Cu layer was grown by electroplating and subsequently acid and base resistance and thermal stability were tested for examining the change of peel strength. Peel strength for the FCCLs treated by both $O_2^+$ and $N_2O^+$ ion irradiation showed similar magnitudes and increased as the thickness of tie layer increased. FCCL with Cu (200 nm)/Ni-Cr (20 nm)/PI structure irradiated with $N_2O^+$ at $1{\times}10^{16}/cm^2$ ion fluence was proved to have a strong peel strength of 0.73 kgf/cm for as-received and 0.34 kgf/cm after thermal test.

The recent development of bio-ceramic material is being studied in various bio-material engineering field. There are lots of technical difficulties because manufacturing or bonding technique are required bio-friendliness, cleanliness and persistence. Zirconia ceramic powder is cladded on Ti-6AI-4V metallurgically by laser cladding processing. Laser cladding system with powder feeding delivery is designed and manufactured for optimum processing condition. Increasing of manufacturing speed and good quality of clad layer are achieved by application of preheating of substrate before laser cladding. The thin dilution and good clad layer on the substrate are obtained for applications of bio-materials such as the dental materials and the articulated joints of human body.

Pressurized Water Reactor (PWR) pressure vessels are made of forged low alloy steel plates internally clad with an austenitic stainless steel by welding to improve anti-corrosion properties. They display a characteristic behavior of dissimilar metal weld interface during post weld heat treatment (PWHT) and service at high temperature and pressure. In this Study, Metallugical structure of weld interface of SA 508 Class 3 forged steel clad with 309L, Austenitic stainless steel after PWHT was investigated. To estimate the width of the carburized/decarburized bands quantitatively, a model for carbon diffusion was proposed and a theoretical equation was derived.
