  • The purpose of this research is to derive a checklist for the site evaluation of Slow City, and through the excellent cases of Slow City, carry out field investigation to understand the construction characteristics of Slow City in the concept of locality. The subjects of this research are five cases of slow cities in South Korea certified by Citta Slow. Through literature review, combining with the construction characteristics of locality and the evaluation elements of Slow City certification, the checklist of Slow City locality evaluation has been obtained, and the field visit evaluation has been carried out. The change characteristics and construction characteristics are evaluated by the cases. The results are as follows.Through case analysis, it is found that the site-based construction features of Slow City are as follows: Through the introduction of the basic concept of Slow City to create the relevant place environment, and build the overall site of Slow City based on it.The location of Slow City was evaluated as historical·cultural assets>environmental assets>physical assets>living resources, emotional·symbolic assets>social assets. In addition, the level of environmental assets, historical·cultural assets is higher, but the level of living resources, social assets and emotional·symbolic assets is lower. This means that it is necessary to carry out community activities for local residents or use projects to improve regional pride and so on.

  • The townscapes of “Bu” and “Mok” in the Yi Dynasty, Showing the typical landscape characteristics of Korean pre-industrial city, were influenced by the two major socio - cultural norms, One of Which is the “Pung - su theory” a traditional religious system on human settlements, the other is the “Churyegogong system” ; a principle of the traditional oriental city planning. The former exerted main influencs on the location of towns, its external Boundaries of domain and its direction, by natural topographic features in macro perspective, and the latter on the inner parts of townscapes, i. e., the landscape system of ‘center’, ‘boundary’, ‘direction’, and ‘domain’, as representations of administrative and Socio-cultural structures of that era, in micro perspective compared with the former. The systems of Korean old townscapes can be summurized as followhg brief paradigm, with general and .case studies. And the constituents of the paradigm, such as center, boundary, direction and domain, are inferred to reinforce the “sense of place” in townscapes, with their ‘physical appearence’, ‘meaning’, and ‘social activities’.

  • Over the past two decades following the 1990s, South Korea's IT industry has developed rapidly. In keeping with this trend, the architectural and urban planning sectors have also converged with IT and achieved advancement in new directions. This evolution includes a variety of conceptual terminologies such as 'home automation', ''home network', 'smart home, and 'ubiquitous-city'. However, smart homes and U-cities simply represent a conceptual extension of home networks, and there is little real difference in the technologies involved. In particular, U-cities remain focused on infrastructure rather than on the development of specific content; consequently, they have failed to demonstrate distinctive features to clearly differentiate themselves from conventional cities. In such a context, this research aims at the proposal of a 'ubiquitous pavilion' as a component of the efforts to develop a range of architectural contents that utilize ubiquitous technologies. By grafting the pavilion, one of the most basic forms in architecture, with cutting-edge ubiquitous technologies, this paper intends to suggest a multi-purpose architectural space readily and simply available not only in newly emerging U-cities, but to conventional cities as well.

  • The switching-mode power converter has been widely used because of its features of high efficiency and small weight and size. In the switching-mode power converter, the output voltage is generally controlled by varying the duty ratio of main switch. When a converter operates in steady state, duty ratio of the converter is kept constant. So the power of switching noise is concentrated in specific frequencies. The more white noise is injected, the more conducted EMI is reduced. But output-voltage is not sufficiently regulated. This is the reason why carrier frequency selection topology is proposed. In the case of carrier frequency selection, output-voltage of steady state and transient state is fully regulated. Spectrum analysis is performed on the Phase current and the CM noise voltage. The former is measured with Current Probe and the latter is achieved with LISN, which are connected to the spectrum analyzer respectively.

  • This paper presents a hybrid method for recognizing the faces by using principal component analysis(PCA) and fixed-point independent component analysis(FP-ICA). PCA is used to whiten the data, which reduces the effects of second-order statistics to the nonlinearities. FP-ICA is applied to extract the statistically independent features of face image. The proposed method has been applied to the problems for recognizing the 20 face images(10 persons * 2 scenes) of 324*243 pixels from Yale face database. The 3 distances such as city-block, Euclidean, negative angle are used as measures when match the probe images to the nearest gallery images. The experimental results show that the proposed method has a superior recognition performances(speed, rate). The negative angle has been relatively achieved more an accurate similarity than city-block or Euclidean.

  • Camellia tuyenquangensis (Theaceae), a new yellow species of camellia from the Chiem Hoa district of the Tuyen Quang province in Vietnam, is described and illustrated. Camellia tuyenquangensis is similar to Camellia luongii but different from the latter species in several morphological features: leaves oblong-ovate to narrow elliptic; flowers 1-2; bracteoles glabrous on both sides; sepal margins ciliate; style cleft one half of the length. The morphological data provisionally support its placement in Camellia sect. Chrysantha Chang.

  • Modern cities are weak in traditional culture with the lack of characteristics and the problem of environmental deterioration. As the important carrier of urban culture, landscape architecture should be responsible for solving these problems. The urban need is paid much attention in the design of South Bank Linear Park in Meizhou city. Following the principle of inheriting and developing urban traditional culture, the design of the whole park is integrated with Hakka culture in Meizhou, which forms the landscape with local features and modern landscape architecture culture, and promotes the urban culture construction.

  • Suburban green lands play an indispensable role in maintaining norma! operation of the urban ecosystem. However, the suburban green lands are also the most fragile and easily disturbed places since they are close to the city edges. The suburban green lands of Kunming city show diversified forms, and it would be difficult to avoid taking part of those green areas in the rapidly expanding urban construction. To better preserve and utilize the suburban green lands of Kunming, it is vitally important to base ourselves on the practical situation of Kunming and take into full consideration the features of urban expansion and suburban green lands, so as to optimize the structures of suburban green lands, scientifically plan and readjust the remaining suburban green lands, and enhance the comprehensive efficiency of the daily dwindling suburban green lands in protecting and regulating the ecosystem, beautifying the environment and outputting economic benefits. Suburban green lands in some specialized areas must be put under strict protection.

  • In this paper, the three-level T-type neutral-point-clamped indirect matrix converter topology and the relative space vector modulation methods are introduced to improve the voltage transfer ratio and output voltage performance. The presented converter topology is based on combinations of cascaded-rectifier and three-level T-type neutral-point-clamp inverter. It can overcome the limitation of voltage transfer ratio of the conventional matrix converter and the high voltage rating of power switches of conventional matrix converter. Two SVPWM strategies for proposed converter are described in this paper to achieve the advantages features such as: sinusoidal input/output currents and three-level output voltage waveforms. Results from Psim 9.0 software simulation are provided to confirm the theoretical analysis. Hence, a laboratory prototype was implemented, and the experimental results are shown to validate the simulation results and to verify the effectiveness of the proposed topology and modulation strategies.
