  • In this paper, the solution of two dimensional deflection of circular wavy elastica beam was obtained for one end clamped boundary and concentrated load condition. The beam was regarded as a linear elastic material. Wavy shape was described as a combination of half-circular arc smoothly connected each other with constant curvature of all the same magnitude and alternative sign. Also load direction was taken into account. As a result, the solution was expressed in terms of a series of integral equations. While we found the exact solutions and expressed them in terms of elliptic integrals, the recursive ignition formulae about the displacement and arc length at each segment of circular section were obtained. Algorithm of determining unknown parameters was established and the profile curve of deflected beam was shown compared with initial shape.

  • In this letter, the null steering of a circular array is presented using a modified array factor (AF) for a global positioning system (GPS) anti-jam. The seven radiating elements were designed using a mu-zero resonance (MZR) circularly polarized (CP) antenna arranged toward the center. Since the radiating elements, which are arranged toward the center, have a CP characteristic, the AF of the seven radiating elements has to be modified considering the rotation angle of the nth radiating element. The phases of input ports can be calculated to implement a nulling of radiation patterns where the modified AF is zero. To verify the modified AF for null steering in the desired direction, two cases of power dividers operating in $L_2$ band (1.2276 GHz) were fabricated to achieve pattern nulling at a certain angle. The modified AF can be confirmed by a comparing the simulated and measured radiation patterns.

  • The governing differential equations for the tapered circular arch with fixed ends have been derived, and a numerical procedure for the solution of these equations have been developed. The governing differential equations were solved numerically by an initial value integration procedure and Shooting Methods for boundary value problems. The Rungekutta fourth order integration technique was used. The methods was programmed for a Cyber 73-18 computer System, and all esults were obtained on this computer. A detailed study has been made for a fixed arch with an angle of opening equal to 0.7 radian, and the results are presented in detail in tables and curves. It is hoped that the results presented herein is applied to the deformations of gives point from the tri-axial direction of tapered circular arch with fixed ends, bending moment, and torsional moment, and that at the same time results to be used for archwise structures in steel structure.

  • This paper described a design for microstrip antenna with EMC cross dipole for circular polarization. To realize the wide bandwidth and circular polarization, the elertromagnetic-coupled cross dipole are used. The calculated axial ratio is about 0.1 dB in the main bean direction at 12 GHz and the circular polarization is realized.

  • In this paper, we present a performance improvement method for the direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation algorithm of the narrowband signals incident on a uniform circular array. It is very important to estimate the covariance matrix effectively because the performance of DOA algorithm mainly depends on the exactness of the sampel coveriance matrix which is computed from the received samples of signals. In case of uniform circular array with the even number sensors, the structure of the arrray has a useful geometrical property. Therefore we present the method which can estimate covariance matrix more effectively using this property. The simulation results are shown to demonstrate the superior perfodrmance obtained by the proposed covariance matrix estimation method relative to that of the conventional estimation method.

  • An experimental investigation has been made for flow in a circular cylinder with a rotating bottom disk. Flow system considered in this paper is a characteristic model of interior flows of an electric washing machine. Flows in a tub of an electric washing machine are driven by a rotating bottom disk called a pulsator. The simple and characteristic model was composed of a circular cylinder with impulsively rotating endwall disk and a viscous fluid in it. Rotational motion of the pulsator is periodic and alternative in rotation direction. The flow field in the interior region is governed by a horizontal boundary layer forms on the impulsively rotating disk. Experimental approach was accomplished by adopting an image processing technique for velocity measurements. Comprehensive details of the flow structure are presented. Also a meridional circulation is obtained by tracking image particles suspended in the fluid. Flow structure and data are successfully procured for this complex rotating flow field.

  • Stress concentration is an interesting and essential field of study, as it is the prime cause of failure of structural parts under static load. In the current paper, stress and strain concentration factors in unidirectional functionally graded (UDFGM) plate with central circular cutout are predicted by carrying out a finite element study on ANSYS APDL platform. The present study aims to bridge the lacuna in the understandings of stress analysis in perforated functionally graded plates. It is found that the material variation parameter is an important criterion while designing a perforated UDFGM plate. By selecting a proper material variation parameter and direction of material gradation, the stress and strain concentrations can be significantly reduced.

  • The present work aims to analyzed the transient thermoelastic stress analysis of a thin circular plate with uniform internal heat generation. Initially, the plate is characterized by a parabolic temperature distribution along the z-direction given by T = T0(r, z) and perfectly insulated at the ends z = 0 and z = h. For times t > 0, the surface r = a is subjected to convection heat transfer with convection coefficient hc and fluid temperature T. The integral transform method used to obtain the analytical solution for temperature, displacement, and thermal stresses. The associated thermoelastic field is analyzed by making use of the temperature and thermoelastic displacement potential function. Numerical results are carried out with the help of computational software PTC Mathcad Prime-3.1 and shown in figures.

  • Experimental tests are described on three ring stiffened machined circular cylinders and three ring stiffened machined circular cones, which were tested to destruction under uniform external pressure. All six vessels failed by inelastic general instability. The experiments showed that the vessels initially deformed plastically at mid-bay in the circumferential direction, and this caused the circumferential tangent modulus to become much less than the elastic Young's modulus, causing the vessels to fail through plastic general instability at pressures much less than that predicted by elastic theory. Based on a thinness ratio, two semi-empirical design charts are provided, which are intended to be used for design purposes in conjunction with the finite element method and a plastic reduction factor.

  • This paper presents nonlinear analysis of an arbitrary functionally graded circular plate integrated with two functionally graded piezoelectric layers resting on the Winkler-Pasternak foundation. Geometric nonlinearity is considered in the strain-displacement relation based on the Von-Karman assumption. All the mechanical and electrical properties except Poisson's ratio can vary continuously along the thickness of the plate based on a power function. Electric potential is assumed as a quadratic function along the thickness direction. After derivation of general nonlinear equations, as an instance, numerical results of a functionally graded material integrated with functionally graded piezoelectric material obeying two different functionalities is investigated. The effect of different parameters such as parameters of foundation, non homogenous index and boundary conditions can be investigated on the mechanical and electrical results of the system. A comprehensive comparison between linear and nonlinear responses of the system presents necessity of this study. Furthermore, the obtained results can be validated by using previous linear and nonlinear analyses after removing the effect of foundation.
