One of the primary concerns in the design of welding devices is how to reduce the distance error between the welding path and the torch, especially when the path has a combination of circular and linear parts. This study investigated a mechanism for reducing the tracking error in the tangent area of a circular and linear path. A portable welding device, called a carriage, has been designed for a specific welding path by considering the distance error deviation. This welding carriage for vertical cover plate welding consists of a rail, a welding torch and the carriage body itself.

In previous researches for iris feature extraction, they transform a original iris image into rectangular one by stretching and interpolation, which causes the distortion of iris patterns. Consequently, it reduce iris recognition accuracy. So we are propose the method that extracts iris feature by using polar coordinates without distortion of iris patterns. Our proposed method has three strengths compared with previous researches. First, we extract iris feature directly from polar coordinate circular iris image. Though it requires a little more processing time, there is no degradation of accuracy for iris recognition and we compares the recognition performance of polar coordinate to rectangular type using by Hamming Distance, Cosine Distance and Euclidean Distance. Second, in general, the center position of pupil is different from that of iris due to camera angle, head position and gaze direction of user. So, we propose the method of iris feature detection based on polar coordinate circular iris region, which uses pupil and iris position and radius at the same time. Third, we overcome override point from iris patterns by using polar coordinates circular method. each overlapped point would be extracted from the same position of iris region. To overcome such problem, we modify Gabor filter's size and frequency on first track in order to consider low frequency iris patterns caused by overlapped points. Experimental results showed that EER is 0.29%, d' is 5,9 and EER is 0.16%, d' is 6,4 in case of using conventional rectangular image and proposed method, respectively.
This paper presents a method for designing circular template used in similarity measurement for image registration. Circular template has translation and rotation invariant property, which results in correct matching of control points for image registration under the condition of translation and rotation between reference and sensed images. Circular template consisting of the pixels located on the multiple circumferences of the circles whose radii vary from zero to a certain distance, is converted to two-dimensional Discrete Polar Coordinate Matrix (DPCM), whose elements are the pixels of the circular template. For sensed image, the same type of circular template and DPCM are created by rotating the circular template repeatedly by a certain degree in the range between 0 and 360 degrees and then similarity is calculated using mutual information of the two DPCMs. The best match is determined when the mutual information for each rotation angle at each pixel in search area is maximum. The proposed algorithm was tested using KOMPSAT-2 images acquired at two different times and the results indicate high accurate matching performance under image rotation.

An analytical method for evaluating the free vibration of two circular plates coupled with water was developed by assuming the clamped boundary condition of the plates and an ideal fluid. The method was applied to analyze the transverse vibration modes, in-phase and out-of-phase, and the results were compared to those obtained by the finite element method (FEM) using a commercial ANSYS 5.2 software. It was found that the theoretical results can predict well the coupled natural frequencies for all in-phase modes with good accuracy. However, the analytical method shows some discrepancies compared with FEM analysis in predicting the coupled natural frequency of the out-of-phase modes, except when m = 0, the zero nodal circle. The analytical method also applied to evaluate the characteristics of the natural frequency with respect to the major parametric variation in mode numbers and distance between the circular plates.

The flow characteristic in the wake around a circular cylinder with tripping wires, which was set in constant distance, was experimentally investigated in the uniform flow, Re=2.92$\times10^4$. The measurement of velocity vector and pressure distribution are carried out various angles of tripping wires in the range of $50^(\circ)$ to $80^(\circ)$ with $10^(\circ)$ interval. The results show that velocity profiles and pressure distributions are different with angles of tripping wires. The drag of the circular cylinder was decreased about 60% maximum when tripping wires' angle was $50^(\circ)$. The lowest reduction of the velocity and wake width was occurred by coanda effect when the angle was $60^(\circ)$, and the vortex shedding periodicity become rare at the same time.
In this research, the simulation method for acoustic sounds by a uniform flow around a two-dimensional circular cylinder by using the finite difference lattice Boltzmann model is explained. To begin with, we examine the boundary condition which determined with the distribution function $f_i^{(0)}$ concerning with density, velocity and internal energy at boundary node. Very small acoustic pressure fluctuation, with same frequency as that of Karman vortex street, is compared with the pressure fluctuation around a circular cylinder. The acoustic sound' propagation velocity shows that acoustic approa ching the upstream, due to the Doppler effect in the uniform flow, slowly propagated. For the do wnstream, on the other hand, it quickly propagates. It is also apparently the size of sound pressure was proportional to the central distance $r^{-1/2}$ of the circular cylinder. The lattice BGK model for compressible fluids is shown to be one of powerful tool for simulation of gas flows.

In this paper, an algorithm for determining the optimal resolution has been described for measuring the actual length of circular objects. As the resolution gets higher, the measurement error in general becomes smaller because of the reduced distance per pixel. However, the higher resolution makes circular objects enlarged, which may produce an ill-conditioned system. That is, a small error in the boundary positions may result in a large error in the analysis of the circular objects. Taking this fact into account, a new measure is proposed to determine the optimal resolution. The actual errors have been calculated with various resolutions and the resolution with the minimum error has been decided as the optimal resolution. The analysis using various circles with different sizes indicates that the minimum measurement error is obtained when the whole circle appears in the screen as large as possible, regardless of the size of circle. The experimental results using real images have verified the validity of our analysis.
Generation of hole-tones and the instability of circular impinging jets are investigated based on the frequency characteristics and the radiated sound field. The experiment is carried out with varying hole sizes, jet speeds and impinging distances. It is found that hole-tones occur by both the low-speed laminar jet and the high-speed turbulent jet, but not by the transient jet, while plate-tones without holes are produced only in the high-speed turbulent impinging jet. When the diameter ratio of the hole to the nozzle is nearly one, hole-tones occur most easily. At low speed, it is found that hole-tones are due to the symmetrical unstable jet and the impinging distance decreases with jet speed. And the Strouhal number and the sound pressure level increase with jet speed. At high speed, hole-tones show the same characteristics as plate-tones. It is found that the ratio of the convection speed varies with the Strouhal number and the jet speed.

In this paper we present a method of circular arc approximation by quartic B$\acute{e}$zier curve. Our quartic approximation method has a smaller error than previous quartic approximation methods due to the alternation of the error function of our quartic approximation. Our method yields a closed form of error so that subdivision algorithm is available, and curvature-continuous quartic spline under the subdivision of circular arc with equal-length until error is less than tolerance. We illustrate our method by some numerical examples.
A Fabry-Perot cavity (FPC) antenna producing both high-gain and circularly-polarized (CP) behavior is proposed. To increase antenna gain and obtain CP characteristics, a superstrate composed of square patches with a pair of truncated corners is placed above the linearly polarized patch antenna with an approximately half-wavelength distance from the ground plane at the operating frequency. The proposed antenna has the advantages of high gain, a simple design, and an excellent boresight axial ratio over the operating frequency bandwidth. Moreover, used in an FPC antenna, the proposed superstrate converts a linear polarization produced by a patch antenna into a circular polarization. In addition, the cavity antenna produces left-hand circular-polarization and right-hand circular-polarization when a patch antenna inside the cavity generates x-direction and y-direction polarization, respectively. The measured and simulated results verify the performance of the antenna.
