  • Cam mechanisms are used commonly in many automatic machinery. Disk cam mechanisms has 4 different types according to the different types of followers. The motion characteristics of the cam mechanisms depend on the shape of the cam and the type of the follower. This paper performs the motion analysis for a disk cam and follower mechanism using a circular arc method and a coordinate transformation method in order to find a contact point of the cam and follower. The velocity is calculated by using the instant velocity concept. Also, the acceleration is determined on using the central difference method. As the results, this paper presents the original curve and the analyzed curve for the motion analysis of the disk cam for an example.

  • In this paper we present a method of circular arc approximation by quartic B$\acute{e}$zier curve. Our quartic approximation method has a smaller error than previous quartic approximation methods due to the alternation of the error function of our quartic approximation. Our method yields a closed form of error so that subdivision algorithm is available, and curvature-continuous quartic spline under the subdivision of circular arc with equal-length until error is less than tolerance. We illustrate our method by some numerical examples.

  • An interface of a circular arc formed by two isotropic, homogeneous elastic materials is investigated. It is shown that L integral satisfies the conservation law for the interface if it is perfectly bonded, in frictionless contact or separated such as in a crack with the origin of the coordinate system being located at the center of the circular arc. The property of path independence of the L integral is applied to an interfacial crack problem, to obtain the stress intensity factors, where the interfacial crack is located along the arc of the circular inclusion embedded in infinite matrix. It is assumed here that the contact zone exist as in the model proposed by Comninou, thus removing the overlapping of the materials along the interface. Another example is shown for case of a circular interfacial crack in the matrix of finite size, where the stress intensity factors are determined by computing a value of the L integral numerically along the path far from the crack tip.

  • This study is to develop a system of electric power generation utilizing the wind resources available in the domestic wind environment. We tested drag-type vortical wind turbine models, which have two different types of blades: a flat plate and circular arc shape. Through a performance test, conditions of maximum rotational speed were found by measuring the rpm of wind turbine. The rotational speed was measured by a tachometer in a wind tunnel and the tunnel wind speed was by using a pilot-static tube and a micro manometer. The performance test for a prototype was accomplished by calculating power, power coefficient, torque coefficient from the measurement of torque and rpm by a dynamometer controller From the measurements for miniature turbine models with two different blades, the circular arc shape was found to Produce a maximum rotational speed for the same wind velocity condition. Based on this result, the prototype with the circular arc blade was made and tested. We found that it produces 500W at the wind velocity of 10.8 m/s and the power coefficient was 20%.

  • The characteristics of the circular arc shaped multi-blade windmil are investigatedl. The prototypical windmill was tested in the laboratory at wind tunnel speeds of 5.5, 9.4m/s. and the model windmill was also tested in the laboratory, The power and torque coefficients were studied as functions of the blade section, the aspect ratio for blade diameter and windmill radius(M = 0.3, 0.5, 0.7), the number of blades and finally the tip-speed ratio. The analysis of the experimental results for the model windmill showed that there is the highest revolutions per minute(R.P.M) at the circular arc shaped multi-blade windmill having the blade number 10, aspect ratio(M = 0.7). and the results for the prototypical windmill showed that the power coefficient increased to a maximum value and then decreased again with an increase in the tip speed ratio, while the torque coefficient decreased directly with an increase in the tip speed ratio Finally, the experimental results were compared with the Savonius blade. the maximum power coefficient for the arc shaped blade was greater than for the Savonius blade and occured at a lower tip speed ratio.

  • The stress distribution in the vicinity of the crack tip in the fracture mechanics is ordenarily indicated by the stress intensity factor. In the analysis of stress intensity factors, there are many theoretical and experimental methods. The stress analysis in photoelastic technique is usually made by using the difference of the principal stress of isochromatic fringe patterns. In this paper, the teflon molding technique is adopted to make a test specimen with a circular arc-crack, and that upgraded the accuracy of experiment. As the result, the experimental values of the stress intensity factors for the circular disk with a straight crack are coincided with the theoretical values. But, there is quite a difference between this expermental results on the finite plate for circular arc-crack and its theoretical values on the infinite one. Therefore, a boundary condition with regard to the loading condition on finite disk must be considered.

  • An arc-shaped line array slit has been used for the laser generation of focused Lamb waves. The spatially expanded Nd:YAG pulse laser was illuminated through the arc-shaped line array slit on the surface of a sample plate to generate the Lamb waves of the same pattern as the slit. Then the generated Lamb waves were focused at the focal point of which distance from the slit position is dependent on the curvature of slit arc. The proposed method showed better spatial resolution than the conventional linear array slit in the detection of laser machined linear defect and drill machined circular defect on aluminum plates of 2mm thickness. Using the focused waves, we could detect the linear defect and the circular defect with the improvement of spatial resolution. The method can also be combined with the scanning mechanism to get an image just like by the scanning acoustic microscope(SAM).

  • A mathematical model for the analysis of roll gap phenomena in strip temper rolling process is described. The mechanical peculiarities of temper rolling process, such as high friction value and non-circular contact arc, low reduction and non-negligible entry and exit elastic zones as well as central restricted deformation (preliminary displacement or sticking) zone etc., are all taken into account. The deformation of work rolls is calculated with the influence function method and arbitrary contact arc shape is permitted. The strip deformation is modeled by slab method and the entry and exit elastic deformation zones are included. The restricted deformation zone near the neutral point is also considered. The concept and the calculation method of limiting preliminary displacement are used to determine the length of the central restricted deformation zone. The comparison of the model results with the measured mill data is also made.

  • The solution of two-dimensional deflection of circular wavy reinforcing fiber elastics was obtained for one end clamped boundary under concentrated load condition. The fiber was regarded as a linear elastic material. Wavy shape was described as a combination of half-circular arc smoothly connected each other with constant curvature of all the same magnitude and alternative sign. Also load direction was taken into account. As a result, the solution was expressed in terms of a series of elliptic integrals. These elliptic integrals had two different transformed parameters involved with load value and initial radius of curvature. While we found the exact solutions and expressed them in terms of elliptic integrals, the recursive ignition formulae about the displacement and arc length at each segment of circular section were obtained. Algorithm of determining unknown parameters was established and the profile curve of deflected beam was shown in comparison with initial shape.

  • Gerotor is widely used as a hydraulic pump or motor, by virtue of its volume changing ability. Performance deterioration of a gerotor hydraulic motor mainly due to the wear come from the contact between inner rotor with trochoidal curve and outer rotor with circular arc profile. This research covers the basic investigation about the contact forces of a gerotor hydraulic motor using analytic method. The influence of the eccentricity and the radius of circular arc teeth on the contact stress was evaluated.
