A New Approach for Built-in Self-Test of 4.5 to 5.5 GHz Low-Noise Amplifiers

  • This paper presents a low-cost RF parameter estimation technique using a new RF built-in self-test (BIST) circuit and efficient DC measurement for 4.5 to 5.5 GHz low noise amplifiers (LNAs). The BIST circuit measures gain, noise figure, input impedance, and input return loss for an LNA. The BIST circuit is designed using $0.18\;{\mu}m$ SiGe technology. The test technique utilizes input impedance matching and output DC voltage measurements. The technique is simple and inexpensive.

  • In this paper, the transmitted noise reduction of smart panels of which passive piezoelectric shunt damping is used, is experimentally studied. Shunt damping experiments are based on the measured electrical impedance model. A passive shunt circuit composed of inductor, and load resistor is devised to dissipate the maximum energy into the joule heat energy For multi mode shunt damping, the shunt circuit is redesigned by adding a blocking circuit.   • In this paper, the low noise power amplifier for GaAs FET ATF-10136 is designed and fabricated with active bias circuit and self bias circuit. To supply most suitable voltage and current, active bias circuit is designed. Active biasing offers the advantage that variations in the pinch-off voltage($V_p$) and saturated drain current($I_{DSS}$) will not necessitate a change in either the source or drain resistor value for a given bias condition. The active bias network automatically sets a gate-source voltage($V_{gs}$) for the desired drain voltage and drain current. Using resistive decoupling circuits, a signal at low frequency is dissipated by a resistor. This design method increases the stability of the LNA, suitable for input stage matching and gate source bias. The LNA is fabricated on FR-4 substrate with active and self bias circuit, and integrated in aluminum housing. As a results, the characteristics of the active and self bias circuit LNA implemented more than 13 dB and 14 dB in gain, lower than 1 dB and 1.1 dB in noise figure, 1.7 and 1.8 input VSWR at normalized frequency $1.4{\sim}1.6$, respectively.

  • This paper deals with noise reduction on a light source driving board in a projector. We analyze causes of noise/vibration in the circuit with the present increasing use of LD and LED driving boards. The main source of noise is the MLCC in the driving board. Our aim is to investigate how the mechanical arrangement of the circuit elements affects noise reduction. The result of our experiment shows that noise can be reduced by symmetrical arrangement and slots in PCB. This result is expected to facilitate a variety of applications for manufactures without a need to change circuit elements.

저잡음 증폭기를 위한 새로운 구조의 검사용 설계회로 (A New Design-for-Testability Circuit for Low Noise Amplifiers)

  • 본 논문에서는 4.5-5.5GHz 저잡음 증폭기 (low noise amplifiers, LNAs)를 위한 새로운 구조의 검사용 설계(Design-for-Testability, DfT) 회로를 제안한다. 이러한 검사용 설계회로는 고가의 장비를 사용하지 알고도 저잡음 증폭기의 전압 이득, 잡음 지수, 입력 임피던스, 입력 반사 손실 및 출력 신호대 잡음 전력비를 측정한다. 검사용 설계회로는 $0.18{\mu}m$ SiGe 공정을 이용하여 설계되었으며, 입력 임피던스 정합과 직류 출력 전압 측정을 이용한다. 이러한 회로를 이용한 회로 검사 기술은 검사 방법이 간단하고 검사하는데 드는 비용이 저렴하다.

  • A bolometer sensor used in an infrared thermal imaging system has many advantages on the process because it does not need a separate cooling system and its manufacturing is easy. However the sensitivity of the bolometer is low and the fixed pattern noise(FPN) is large, because the bolometer sensor is made by micro electro mechanical systems (MEMS). These problems can be fixed-by using the high performance readout integrated circuit(ROIC) with noise reduction techniques. In this paper, we propose differential delta sampling circuit to remove the mismatch noise of ROIC itself, the FPN of the bolometer. And for reduction of FPN noise, the reference signal compensation circuit which compensate the reference signal by using on-resistance of MOS transistor was proposed.

  • A computer program for noise analysis of the audio circuit is developed. The application of the program to the equalizer, low frequency amplifier of radio circuit and cascaded amplifier show good results. The general noise analysis method for cascade operational amplifier is presented. The noise spectral power density is calculated for a resonator active filter.

  • This paper presents the multi-mode noise reduction of smart panels of which passive piezoelectric shunt damping is introduced. For the piezoelectric shunt damping, a passive shunt circuit composed of inductors and a load resistor is connected to the piezoelectric patch mounted on the panel structure. An electrical impedance model is introduced for the system based on the measured electrical impedance, and the criteria for maximum energy dissipation at the shunt circuit is used to find the optimal shunt parameters. For multi-mode shunt damping, the shunt circuit is modified by the introduction of a block circuit. Also the optimal location of the piezoelectric patch is studied by finite element analysis in order to cause the maximum admittance from the patch for each mode of the structure. An acoustic test is performed for the panels and a remarkable noise reduction is obtained in multiple modes of the panel structure.

새로운 능동EMI필터의 결합회로에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Combining Circuit of New Active EMI Filter)

  • Conventional EMI filters have tried to use an active EMI filter as a series by the series connection of two EMI filters for CM and DM noise. However, the proposed filter is formed into one circuit by using the active EMI filter which is able to filter CM and DM noise components together. As a result, the active EMI filter showed the outstanding quality in mass and volume under 50% and electric characteristics have been compared to the passive EMI filter in approximately 150kHz~10MHz. Furthermore, the proposed circuit has simple circuit components by comparing with the series EMI filters, and electrical characteristics are similar. The noise have been attenuated to maximum 20dBuV.

  • In this paper, a design of radiation detector for gamma column scanner is introduced. Distillation column is important unit in Petro-chemical industries, and its on-line diagnose is very important. To get density profile measured by the radiation transmitted through column is well method for on-line diagnose as gamma scanning. For this purpose radiation detection circuit, radiation source and mechanical system for moving source and detector are required. Conventional radiation detection circuit for this application is sensitive to electric noise because of interface between the radiation circuit and the controller for mechanical system. The radiation detection system introduced here is using loop coil instead of slip ring to remove contact noise. Radiation detection system designed here for gamma scanning consist of BGO detector, high voltage circuit, PHA circuit and FSK modem. The BGO detector is used as radiation sensor, high voltage circuit and peak height analysis circuit is essential to process the signal generated from BGO detector. Micro controller convert measured data into ASCII data. FSK modem transmit ASCII data. Transmitted ASCH data is picked up in antenna coil and processed for combined function with mechanical system. This method gives good result by isolating the controlling circuit of mechanical system from radiation detecting circuit which is sensitive to noise.
