Exploring the Characteristics of STEAM Program Developed by Docents and its educational impact in the Natural History Museum

  • The purpose of this study was to explore the characteristics of STEAM program developed and implemented by two docents and its educational impact for the use of natural history museum. Two docents developed this program with the help of science educators who ran five times of workshop during five months. The STEAM program implemented in the natural history museum demonstrated the following characteristics. The exhibitions in museum were reached by visitors only for learning science concepts (S) out of five components in STEAM. The other components, T (technology) and E (engineering), were delivered through lectures in the room, not exhibition hall. M (Mathematics)was achieved by guessing the animal's size, or calculating the walking or running speed with the clue of foot prints. The three phases of STEAM program (presentation of context, creatively design the investigation, and emotional touch) were explicitly implemented but partially successful. Two docents participating in this study responded that they formed new or extended the understandings about STEAM education, but they had the difficulties in implementing STEAM program for various type of visitors. All visitors who participated in this study displayed the favorable responses in educational impact by STEAM program in natural history museum. The heavier emphasis on E and T of STEAM program is recommended through community-based learning. In addition, educator professional program through which docents can bridge theory into practice is suggested for revitalization of STEAM education.

추상, 그 미학적 담론의 초기 현상 -1930년대 한국의 경우 (Abstract Art, the early phenomena of aesthetic discourse - In the case of Korean art in 1930s)

  • In the late decade of 1930, under the Japanese Imperialism, the Korean abstract art which was formed with affection by Japan and Europe. They say the early Korean abstract art is colonized, from a point that it derives from exterior impact. And they say also it is colonized not to be related to the representation of their own life world. On the other hand, the early Korean abstract art in 1930s is told as the prehistory of 'Korean Modernism in Art', which flourished in 1970s followed 'Informal Art Movement' in the late 1950s. Because the status of abstract art in 1930s was not more than a germ of 'Korean Modernism in Art', while they understand until 1950s as a period dominated by representational art based on Chosun Exhibition or Korean National Exhibition, the period until 1970s as a period ruled by abstract art which was accepted as 'Korean Modernism in Art', and the period after 1980s as a period by Min-jung Art and Post-Modernism Art. However, the historical value of Korean Abstract Art in 1930s cannot be passed over, if not trying to understand the development of 'Korean Modernism in Art' especially focusing on not their own history but the impact of Western and Japanese art. In the late colonial period, the Korean early abstract art was the strongest utterance of the time paradoxically, even if not related much to optical representation of the Korean subjectivity. Therefore the existing viewpoints about the early Korean abstract art should be changed.

국내 과학관 전시물에 반영된 과학의 본성(NOS) 특징 분석에 따른 프로그램 개발 및 이의 적용 (Development and Application of NOS Education Program according to Analyzing the Characteristics of Nature of Science(NOS) in Exhibits of Science Museum)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 대표적인 비형식 교육기관인 과학관에서의 과학의 본성에 대한 현황을 파악하여 특징을 분석하고, 발전 방향을 모색하여 과학관 전시물 기반의 과학의 본성 교육 프로그램을 개발 하고 적용하는데 있다. 과학관에서의 과학의 본성 분석 도구(NOSAT_ISM)를 이용하여, 국내 과학박물관 4곳의 전시물의 과학의 본성 현황을 분석하고 국내 과학관에 과학의 본성의 특징을 알아보았다. 또한 과학관 전시물의 과학의 본성 분석 결과를 바탕으로 과학관 전시물에 제한적으로 나타난 과학의 본성을 보충하기 위해 과학관 전시물 기반의 과학의 본성 교육프로그램을 개발 및 적용하였다. 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 국내 과학관 두 곳의 전시물에 반영된 과학의 본성을 분석한 결과, 대부분 암시적이었으며, 과학 기술 사회의 관계를 나타낸 과학의 본성 요소가 지배적으로 나타났다. 국내 자연사박물관 두 곳의 전시물에 반영된 과학의 본성을 분석한 결과, 역시 대부분 암시적이었으며, 관찰과 추론의 과정을 묘사한 과학의 본성 요소가 지배적으로 나타났다. 둘째, 과학관 전시물에 제한적으로 나타난 과학의 본성을 보충하기 위해, 본 연구에서 개발한 과학사를 반영한 과학관 전시물 기반의 과학의 본성 교육 프로그램을 적용 한 후 질적 연구를 통해 설문을 개발하여 투입한 결과, 사전과 사후검사에 명시적으로 반영시킨 과학이 잠정적이며, 창의력과 상상력을 필요로 하고, 사회 문화적임을 반영하고, 과학적 방법을 사용한다는 과학의 본성의 경우에만 긍정적인 변화가 있었다. 이 연구를 통해 도출된 결론은 다음과 같다. 과학관과 자연사박물관 이라는 전시관의 주제에 따른 특징별로 전시물에 나타나는 과학의 본성 요소가 달랐으며, 암시적인 접근의 과학의 본성이 대부분이었다. 이에 따라 과학관에서 과학의 본성 함양을 위해, 과학관 전시물을 활용한 교육프로그램을 적극적으로 활용하는 것이 관람객의 과학의 본성 이해도를 높이는 데 도움이 되지만, 명시적인 과학의 본성을 반영하였을 때 그 변화가 크다는 점에서 명시적인 과학의 본성 교육 프로그램을 개발하여 활용할 필요성이 있다고 할 수 있으며 이를 개발 및 적용할 수 있는 역량을 위한 과학관 교육자들의 전문성이 요구된다.

청소년들의 표현 욕구에 따른 교복수선 행태조사 (A Study on the Repairs of School Uniforms according to Adolescents' Expressive Desires)

  • The main purpose of this study was to speculate how psychological state of adolescent students has changed their school uniform style. For the study, the distinctive characteristics during adolescence stage were theoretically examined. Through the examination, this study found four interests in fashions and school uniforms. For the purpose, this study conducted interviews with grade 2 students in a total of six coeducation secondary schools in Seoul, Gyeongki and Gwangju using a questionnaire. The survey period ranged from December 15 2008 to December 24 2008 and a total of 1196 were used for a final analysis. This study extracted factors as Principal Components Analysis and used Varimax for orthogonal rotation analysis. To measure confidence, it used Cronbach's a test to item internal consistency. For data analysis, it used SPSS WIN 12.0 and for hypothesis analysis, frequency analysis, cross analysis, independent t-test, and one-way ANOVA were conducted. For posterior analysis, it used Sheffe test. The results are as follows: First, the interests in fashion and school uniforms differed depending on their own tastes, but these interests were more influenced by environment around school. Secondly, the boy subjects were more aggressive towards repairs their uniforms than the girls, which suggested that boys had stronger desire to show themselves to others and more satisfaction from repairs their uniforms than the girls. Based on the results, this study concluded as follows: We should pay attention to preventing deformation in original design of school uniforms while expanding options to have variable designs or to change detailed part of design. So, there will be no additional uniform mending expense and financial loss to parents, and students will be more satisfied with their school uniforms.

여대생의 신체적 특징에 따른 의복행동 및 헤어스타일 행동에 관한 연구 (Clothing and Hairstyle Behavior Dependence on the Physical Characteristics of college Women)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine how female college students' physical characteristics affect their and hairstyle behavior. The study methodology was a survey, with questions gathered from the previous research surveys and collated by the author. The study subjects 350 female college students in Gwangju, Korea. This survey was performed from November 8thto 13th 2004, and 348 questionnaires were finally used for the study analysis.. The research results are summarized as follows: 1. As a result of the analysis on the research variants, costume behavior was derived from four factors clothing sympathy, clothing exhibition, clothing convenience, clothing aesthetics. Hairstyle behavior was derived from five factors: hair sympathy, hair individuality, hair aesthetics, dependency on hair designer, and hair convenience. 2. The difference between clothing and hairstyle behavior according to physical characteristics showed that clothing and hairstyle behavior make a significant difference according to the height, weight, study major, spending money, and family income. 3. There was a positive correlation among clothing and hairstyle behavior clothing Female college students showed the same differences in clothing behavior as in hairstyle behavior according to their own physical characteristics. When more satisfied with their body shape, they tended to pursue a clothing aesthetic. When more dissatisfied with their body shape, they tended to pursue a comfortable and acceptable look, which does not attract others' attention, rather than pee the changes of hairstyle and fashion.

국내 원자력 홍보관의 전시물 탐색 및 교육 활용 방안 모색 (Exploring the Direction of Educational Development on Exhibits at the Nuclear Information Halls)

  • 본 연구는 국내 원자력방사선 관련 전시 및 교육 발전 방향을 모색하기 위하여 국내 원자력 홍보관의 전시물 및 전시패널을 내용에 따라 크게 4가지 범주로 분류하고, 과학커뮤니케이션의 6가지 요소로 분석하여 비율을 파악하였다. 연구 대상은 국내 원자력 홍보관 총 4곳을 목적 표집하였으며, 일본의 원자력 과학관 1곳을 선정하였다. 연구 결과, 국내 모든 기관에서는 4가지 범주 중에서 개념에 해당하는 내용이 높은 비율로 나타났다. 그리고 전시물에 포함되어 있는 과학커뮤니케이션 요소는 개념(CON)과 흥미(INT)가 주를 이루었으며, 반면에 과학의 본성(NOS), 인식(AW), 즐거움(ENJ), 의견(OP)은 제한적으로 나타났다. 본 연구결과를 통하여 다음과 같은 결론을 내릴 수 있다. 원자력 홍보관은 관람객에게 원자력방사능에 대한 다양한 측면의 정보를 제공하여 관람객 스스로 올바른 판단을 하고 과학적 태도를 향상시키며 과학커뮤니케이션 요소의 이해를 높일 수 있도록 과학적 소양인 양성을 위한 전문 비형식 교육기관으로써의 역할을 수행할 수 있어야 한다. 그리고 전시물에 반영하기 어려운 과학커뮤니케이션을 충족시킬 수 있도록 전문 도슨트 또는 해설사 양성을 위한 전문 프로그램 개발과 적용에 대한 지속적인 연구가 필요하다.

상원사목조문수동자좌상 복장 명주홑저고리의 보존처리 (The Preservation Treatment of Unlined Silk Jeogori Found at the Wooden Munsudongja Buddha Statue in the Sangwon Temple)

  • The significance of this study is the demonstration of a new method of preservation procedure for national-treasure-class cultural-assets by examining the characteristics of the Jeogori relic, presumed to be that of King SeJo, and validating the preservation process. This Jergori as well as the wooden Munsu-donja Buddha statue from which they were found are designated as national treasure. The Jeogori relic is made of light silk and dimensions mark 77 cm in length, 67 cm in width, and 94 cm in sleeve length. It is a typical Jeogori worn in the Chosun Dynasty. Preservation procedure was in the following order: Removing dust and pollutants by vacuum, washing, removing creases, reinforcing the clothes, settling at paulownia backboard, and packing. Storage and exhibition of remains was executed with as minimal folding as possible, and microbiological damage prevention was performed by dyeing antibacterial treatment with eugenol onto supporting cloth. The relic, conservatively treated in accordance with the above procedure, is currently kept at the storage facility of the citadel Museum in the Woljeong Temple. It is displayed annually to the general public for approximately two weeks.

Exploring Students Competencies to be Creative Problem Solvers With Computational Thinking Practices

  • The purpose of this study was to explore the nine components of computational thinking (CT) practices and their operational definitions from the view of science education and to develop a CT practice framework that is going to be used as a planning and assessing tool for CT practice, as it is required for students to equip with in order to become creative problem solvers in $21^{st}$ century. We employed this framework into the earlier developed STEAM programs to see how it was valid and reliable. We first reviewed theoretical articles about CT from computer science and technology education field. We then proposed 9 components of CT as defined in technology education but modified operational definitions in each component from the perspective of science education. This preliminary CTPF (computational thinking practice framework) from the viewpoint of science education consisting of 9 components including data collection, data analysis, data representation, decomposing, abstraction, algorithm and procedures, automation, simulation, and parallelization. We discussed each component with operational definition to check if those components were useful in and applicable for science programs. We employed this CTPF into two different topics of STEAM programs to see if those components were observable with operational definitions. The profile of CT components within the selected STEAM programs for this study showed one sequential spectrum covering from data collection to simulation as the grade level went higher. The first three data related CT components were dominating at elementary level, all components of CT except parallelization were found at middle school level, and finally more frequencies in every component of CT except parallelization were also found at high school level than middle school level. On the basis of the result of CT usage in STEAM programs, we included 'generalization' in CTPF of science education instead of 'parallelization' which was not found. The implication about teacher education was made based on the CTPF in terms of science education.

친환경 식문화 콘텐츠를 융합한 조리기구 제품디자인 개발 (Development of Cookware Product Design converging with Eco-friendly Food Culture Contents)

  • 본 연구는 조리기구와 친환경 식문화콘텐츠의 접목형 융합상품으로 최근 소비자의 니즈를 반영한 단순한 전시용도가 아닌 새로운 상품으로서의 가능성을 제시하였다. 또한, 상품화를 위하여 본 과제에서 제작할 디자인이 반영되도록 3D Rendering, 3D Mock-up 등을 활용해 별도의 제작공정을 들여 프로토타입 형태로 제작하고, 이후 생산자와 협의 등을 통해 다양한 상품으로 확장 고려 될 수 있을 것으로 판단된다. 국내는 물론 국외에도 적용할 수 있는 조리 기구를 개발, 디자인함으로써 각자가 자신의 취향에 맞게 식재료를 가열하거나 고기 등을 구워 먹을 수 있도록 한 제품으로 기존에 출시된 그릴 팬에서는 찾을 수 없는 보다 앞서가는 기능과 현대의 변화된 식문화에 잘 부합하며, 감성적이며 형태적으로 교류할 수 있는 디자인을 더하여 참신하고 혁신적인 주방제품 트렌드를 리드할 수 있도록 하였다.

실내 환경에서 송수신기 위치 변화에 따른 전파 전달 특성 분석 (Analysis of Propagation Characteristics according to the Change of Transmitter-Receiver Location in Indoor Environment)

  • 실내 환경에서 송수신기의 위치 변화에 따른 전파 전달 특성을 시뮬레이션을 통하여 예측하고, 경로손실 측정을 통하여 얻어진 결과를 예측결과와 비교하고 분석하였다. 경로손실 측정 환경으로는 대회의실을 선택하였으며, 또한 실내 장식물 및 비품이 없는 전시실을 선택하여 두 환경의 전파 전달 특성을 비교하였다. 각 실내 환경에서 송신기의 위치는 전방 벽면 중앙과 측면 벽면 중앙에 위치하는 두 가지 경우를 선택하였고, 수신기의 위치는 실내 공간의 중심선과 측면 벽을 따라 움직이며 수신 전력을 측정하였다. 각각의 송수신기 위치변화에 대하여 3GHz와 6GHz의 수신 전력을 측정하고 시뮬레이션 예측 결과와 비교하였다. 송신기의 위치 및 주파수 대역 변화에 따라 각 수신점에서 수신 전력의 변화를 분석하였다.
