  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the difference in bakery choice attributes according to consumers' general characteristics and purchasing behavior. Among 350 questionnaires distributed to bakery consumers, 277 complete questionnaires (79.1%) were analyzed. Bakery choice attributes were classified into five factors: "environment and image", "bakery product features", "location", "employee service", and "price and sales promotion"; the mean scores of these factors' importance levels were 3.59, 3.58, 3.49, 3.36, and 3.00, respectively. Males considered 'employee service' factor significantly more than did females. Further, the importance level of 'employee service' factor was significantly greater as consumer's age increased. The importance levels of 'bakery product features' and 'employee service' factors were considered significantly more by consumers who spent KRW10,000-15,000 than those who spent KRW5,000 or less. 'Price and sales promotion' was considered to be more important by consumers who obtained information from the Internet than from the TV and radio. 'Location' factor was considered to be more significant as purchasing frequency increased. Such differences in importance level of bakery choice attributes according to consumers' gender, age, job, and purchasing behavior should be considered and applied to the development of marketing strategies targeted at consumers.

  • Purpose: This study investigated beef restaurant's selection attributes using conjoint analysis in order to provide useful information to marketers and managers. Methods: A total of 320 questionnaires were distributed to consumers who visited a beef restaurant in August 2016, and 284 were completed (96.90%). Statistical analyses of data were performed using SPSS/Windows 22.0 for descriptive statistics and conjoint analysis. Results: The results of this study demonstrate the relative importance and level of each attribute for selecting beef restaurants. Price showed the greatest importance (34.86%), followed by origin of beef (27.52%), level of support services (25.72%), and variety of side dishes (11.90%). The optimum attribute combination was various side dishes (0.059), Korean beef (0.385), Very high service level (-0.291), and price of 8,000 won (-0.782). The most preferred beef restaurant gained 37.60% potential market share from choice simulation. There were significant differences in importance of attributes related to age of respondents. For respondents in their 20s and older than 50s, the first consideration was price. Respondents in their 30s considered the level of support services first while those in their 40s considered origin of beef first. Importance of attributes based on companion of respondents revealed that all respondents considered price first. Conclusion: This study contributes to development of marketing plans based on a customer's involvement level focusing on their primary selection criteria when choosing a beef restaurant. Additionally, marketers who manage beef restaurants can estimate the market share of imaginary beef restaurants from these results.

  • The principal objectives of this study were : 1) to classify groups via cluster analysis for undergraduate's attributes of restaurant choice, and 2) to assess differences in dining-out behaviors among each restaurant choice cluster. Self-administered questionnaires were completed by 387 students, and the data were analyzed via frequency analysis, chi-square, one-way ANOVA, factor analysis, reliability analysis, cluster analysis and discriminant analysis. Three clusters were obtained by the attributes of restaurant choice from cluster analysis : Cluster 1 "indifferent style", Cluster 2 "ordinary style", and Cluster 3 "highly interested (careful) style". As for connections between the attributes of restaurant choice and distinctive dining-out behaviors in different undergraduates clusters, an indifferent style was rampant among the male students in their lower academic years. This group of students responded that they ate out only to satisfy their hunger, and stayed in a restaurant for one hour or less. Their friends made the choice of a restaurant on their behalf. The students in the "ordinary style" group spent between 5 and 10 thousand won to dine out, and stayed in a restaurant with their friends for two hours or less. They made the choice of a restaurant on their own, or together with their friends. A highly interested (careful) style prevailed among the female students in the upper academic year. This group of students ate out in order to mingle with their friends or colleagues rather than to satisfy their hunger, and they generally made a choice of a restaurant on their behalf.

For this purpose, this study investigates regional attributes considered in decision making processes for rural tourism destinations of urban residents using a conjoint model as a stated preference model. Based on literature reviews, two questionnaire surveys were conducted. The first questionnaire survey was performed in 4 cities including Seoul, Daejeon, Suwon and Chuncheon with 408 urban residents. The Second questionnaire survey was performed in 5 cities including Seoul, Chuncheon, Daejeon, Jeonju and Busan with about 1,060 urban residents. The study results suggest that the most important attribute in selecting rural ares for tourism are activity programs and convenience of facility, according to part-worth and vector model. The fitness level of model is 0.986, which is very significant. Among the 5 attribute's levels, the rural residents' kindness, the traditional and the ecological programs and the facilities about sign and lodging are more critical factors than other levels. Utilities of each levels decreases as cost and arrival time increases. Regarding the result of market segmentations, respondents having intention to visit can be divided into 4 group; (1) facility or program oriented type, (2) resident's kindness oriented type, (3) arrival time oriented type, and (4) negatively participant type. The results of leisure choice attributes can provide insightful information for regional planning strategies, such as selection of the type of market segments and the key factor of facility and space planning.

  • The aim of this study was to identify sushi choices underlying food-related lifestyle and to study the sushi attribute. The Food Choice Questionnaire (FCQ), the most popular tool for lifestyle research, which measures the relative importance of nine factors important in food choice, and food-related lifestyle was administered to 200 Americans (over 20 years of age) residing in Korea. From an analysis of food-related lifestyle through factor analysis, four factors emerged: health, taste, economy, and convenience. The Food Choice Questionnaire (FCQ) structure was verified using factor analysis, and eight factors were found: mood, natural content, health, sensory appeal, convenience, weight control, familiarity and price. These data are important in demonstrating the different motives underlying sushi choice. Moreover, the results suggest that an American's food-related lifestyle is considerably different in consumer behavior and sushi choice. Further research is needed to test our hypotheses.

We conducted surveys and conducted empirical analysis on Chinese tourists visiting duty free shops in Busan using direct survey method. The results of this study are as follows. First, factor analysis for subdividing the duty - free choice attribute was analyzed as store attribute, product attribute, and service attribute. Second, based on this analysis, the effect of each attribute on shopping satisfaction showed statistically significant positive results. Third, the analysis of the relative size of the effects of analytic attributes on satisfaction showed that store attributes were the highest. That is, the quality of duty-free shops, services, and products increases overall shopping satisfaction. Therefore, it can be said that the strategy implementation that improves the quality of the attributes affecting the satisfaction is expected to contribute to the improvement of the management performance, and suggests the management implications for the activation of the operation of the duty - free shop. Future studies will be more meaningful if more variety of shopping places are studied.

  • This study examined user preferences toward transportation modes in Seoul. Two multidimensional scaling models, the ideal point and vector models, were applied to data on mode preferences of 114 adults in the metropolitan area. While both models produced fairly similar results, the vector model performed slightly better than the other in terms of interpretability of the results. The transport attributes elicited are comfort, flexibility, travel cost, travel time, privacy, and safety; among which comfort is salient most. The comfort variable is a multi-faceted attribute in nature. The variations of attribute preferences are most significant between the gender groups as well as worker/nonworker groups. In particular, male workers, female workers and female nonworkers form three distinctive market segments. An unidimensional scaling of the preference data reveals that subway, auto-driver, and subscription bus modes are preferred most, whereas motorcycle and bicycle least. The other modes of express bus, taxt, auto-passenger, bus and walk rank intermediately. An examination of how preference orders vary among modal groups hints that users align their stated attitudes to their choice in order to reduce cognitive dissonance.
