In this study, high-purity single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) were prepared by removing the unreacted metal constituents and amorphous carbon impurities using a post-annealing process. Unlike conventional thermal processing techniques, this technique involved different gas atmospheres for efficient removal of impurities. A heat treatment was conducted in the presence of chlorine, oxygen, and chlorine + oxygen gases. The nanotubes demonstrated the best characteristics, when the heat treatment was conducted in the presence of a mixture of chlorine and oxygen gases. The scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, ultraviolet absorbance, and sheet resistance measurements showed that the heat treatment process efficiently removed the unreacted metal and amorphous carbon impurities from the as-synthesized SWCNTs. The high-purity SWCNTs exhibited improved electrical conductivities. Such high-purity SWCNTs can be used in various carbon composites for improving the sensitivity of gas sensors.
This research for replacement of chlorine or sulfur based EP(extreme pressure) -additives which is restricted materials by environmental regulation. The subject of this study is as follows, 4-ball test and friction coefficient test were experimented in accordance with temperature and velocity, compounding with several organic or inorganic metallic elements. After 4-ball test, wear area of steel ball was analysed by SEM-EDX. As the analysis, organic and inorganic elements make a effect for extreme pressure lubricity. It is shown that the friction coefficient of lubricant which includes chlorine or sulfur additives, the scoring phenomenon is found accord-ing to temperature and the scuffing phenomenon at 200$^{\circ}C$. Applying to Na, P, S, Zn, Ca based on inorganic and organic elements, the result showed that friction coefficient is decreased more and more, as increasing temperature of lubricant. The additive based on S, Cl, P elements is effect far extreme pressure in the sample#1 and Na, P, S, Zn, Ca in sample #2. These elements are environmental contaminants and S, Cl based on EP additives which are very popular in domestic industry, when they are properly composed with non-chlorine based on additives and Na, P, S, Zn, Ca organic or inorganic elements. It is showed that lubricity and excellent anti-wear properties.

Generation of chlorine dioxide ($ClO_2$) was studied by the un-divided electrochemical cell system using $RuO_2$ anode material. Sodium chlorite ($NaClO_2$) was used as a precursor compound of chlorine dioxide. Effect of various operating parameters such as feed solution flow rate, initial solution pH, $NaClO_2$ and NaCl conc., and applied current density on the produced chlorine dioxide concentration and solution pH were investigated in un-divided electrochemical cell system. Produced chlorine dioxide concentration and solution pH were strongly depends on the initial solution pH and feed solution flow rate. Sodium chloride (NaCl) was not only good electrolyte, it was also used as a raw material of chlorine dioxide with $NaClO_2$. Observed optimum conditions were flow rate of feed solution (90 mL/min), initial pH (2.3), $NaClO_2$ concentration (4.7 mM), NaCl concentration (100 mM), and current density ($5A/dm^2$). Produced chlorine dioxide concentration was around 350 mg/L and solution pH was around 3.

In CLO2 delignification and bleaching process, formation of chlorate corresponds to a loss of 20-36% of the original CKO2 charge. Because chlorate is inactive and harmful to environmental, it will be of benefit to find methods that can reduce the formation of chlorate during chlorine dioxide bleaching. Chlorate is mainly formed by the reaction HCIO +ClO2 $\longrightarrow$H+ + Cl_ +ClO3-2 On the other hand, AOX in chlorine dioxide bleacing is formed also due to the in-situ produced hypochlorous acid. THus both AOX and chlorate could be reduced by addition of hypochlorous acid. Some paper son the reduction of AOX by additives appeared , but systematic data on chlorate reduction as well as pulp and effluent properties are not available. THus this paper of focused on the effects on the reduction of chlorate and chlorine dioxide bleachability. The additives, fulfamic a챵, AMSO, hydrogen peroxide, oxalic acid were found to eliminate chlorine selectively in chlorine and chlorine dioxide mixture.However, when they were added to bleaching process, sulfamic acid and DMSO showed significant reduction of chlorate formation but hydrogen peroxide and oxalic aicd did not, and significant amount ofhydrogen peroxide was found resided in the bleaching effluent , In addition, sulfamic acid and DMSO decreased the bleaching end ph values while hydrogen peroxide and oxalic acid did not, which also indicated that hydrogen peroxide and oxalic acid were ineffective. The difference might be ascribed to the competitives of hypochlorous acid with lignin, chlorite (CKO2) and additives. Sulfamic acid and DMSO showed better pulpbrightness development but less alkaline extraction efficiency than hydrogen peroxide , oxalic acid and control, which means that insitu hypochlorous acid contributes to the formation of new chromophore structures that can be easily eliminated by alkaline extraction. DMSO decreased the delignification ability of chlorine dioxide due to the elimination of hypochlorous acid, but sfulfamic acid did to because the chlroinated sulfamic acid had stable bleachability. In addition, sulfamic acid, and SMSO shwed decreased color and COD of bleaching effluents, hydrogen peroxide decreased effluent color but not COD content, and oxalic acid had no statistically significant effects. No significant decreases of pulp viocosity were found except for hydrogen peroxide. Based on our results , we suggest that the effectiveness of hydrogen peroxide on the reduction of AOX in literature might be explained by other mechanisms not due to the elimination of hypochlorous acid , but to the direct decomposition of AOX by hydrogen peroxide.
This study was attempted to provide basic data for effective sanitization of sprouts. Sanitization treatments were performed by dipping four sprouts (alfalfa, broccoli, clover and red radish) into chlorine water. Microbial analyses were composed of the total plate count (TPC), coliform count, and E. coli count. All examined sprouts exhibited high levels of TPC ($10^{7}$ CFU/g) and coliform ($10^{6}$ CFU/g). E. coli was detected in broccoli and red radish sprouts in the range of $10^3{\sim}10^4$ CFU/g. Among chlorine water sanitization, the microbial reduction was largest in 100 ppm chlorine water, and its TPC and coliform counts decreased to $8.0{\times}10^5{\sim}2.7{\times}10^6$ CFU/g and $4.3{\times}10^5{\sim}4.6{\times}10^5$ CFU/g, respectively. E. coli was not detected in all sprouts that were given 100 ppm chlorine water treatment. The effective dipping time in 100 ppm chlorine water treatment was 30 min and 60 min, in which TPC were below the microbiological safety limits of ${\times}10^{6}$ CFU/g. Coliform counts were decreased to $9.1{\times}10^4{\sim}2.4{\times}10^5$ CFU/g when the sprouts were dipped for 30min, and kept the similar level after that time. These levels exceeded the microbiological safety limits of $10^{3}$ CFU/g. E. coli was not detected in samples by 100 ppm chlorine water treatment.
This study was conducted to investigate the effect of chlorine dioxide fumigation as a substitute for sulfur fumigation which has been used as a method to prevent the quality change of persimmon during storage and distribution process. Dried persimmons were treated with chlorine dioxide gas concentration (0, 15 30, and 45 ppm) and time (0, 15, 30, and 45 min) and microbiological changes, texture properties and color of the treated samples were investigated during storage at room temperature. Total aerobic bacteria, yeast and mold numbers after chlorine dioxide gas fumigation were decreased when compared with the control group. The inhibitory effects of total aerobic bacteria, yeast, and mold were observed during storage. The texture properties and color value of dried persimmons were not affected by chlorine dioxide gas fumigation concentration and time. There was no difference in quality between chlorine dioxide gas fumigation treatment group and control group. These results suggested that chlorine dioxide gas fumigation treatment can be utilized as a processing technique to secure microbiological storage stability of dried persimmons.

This study was conducted to investigate the effect of treatment with squeous chlorine dioxide and hot water on the germination of radish (Raphanus sativus L.) seeds, and reduction of microbial load on the seeds. Increases in treatment and the concentration of aqueous chlorine dioxide in water resulted in increasing reductions in the counts of total aerobic microbes. Seeds treated with aqueous chlorine dioxide (100 ppm/20min, 200ppm/20min) showed about a 10-fold decrease in microbial loads. Germination of seeds was not adversely affected by any treatment tested, although the germination rate of seeds in the group treated at $55^{\circ}C$ for 20 min was reduced by 10% compared to that of control. Combined treatment with hot water and aqueous chlorine dioxide yielded better out comes in both microbial reduction and seed germination rate than did single treatments. A combined treatment with 100 ppm aqueous chlorine dioxide and hot water($45^{\circ}C$ or $50^{\circ}C$) resulted in about a 100-fold decrease in microbial load whereas germination rate showed only a slight increase to $97.0{\sim}97.7%$. Total aerobic microbial counts in radish seeds were decreased by aqueous chlorine dioxide and hot water treatment in the order. aqueous $CIO_2$+ hot water > aqueous $CIO_2$ > chlorinated water > hot water > control.

The tap water used in Seoul was found to be corrosive. Its corrosivity was effectively reduced by that the additions of alkali agent such as NaOH, $Ca(OH)_2$ and corrosion inhibitor such as $H_3PO_4$. For the corrosion test, carbon steel pipe 50 m long was exposed to the drinking water produced by a pilot plant at $36.5^{\circ}C$, similar to the existing process where it takes about 20 minutes to reduce the initial chlorine content of 0.5 mg/L to 0.05 mg/L. $CO_2$ and $Ca(OH)_2$ was added not only to control the Langelier index (LI) above -1.0 and but also, to increase the duration time of residual chlorine by about 6 times. The persistence effect of residual chlorine was in the order of $H_3PO_4$ > $Ca(OH)_2$ > NaOH. Measurements of weight loss showed that corrosion inhibition was effective in order of $Ca(OH)_2$ > $H_3PO_4$ > NaOH > no addition, where the concentrations of $Ca(OH)_2$ and phosphate were 5 ~ 10 mg/L (as $Ca^{2+}$) and 1 mg/L (as $PO{_4}^{3-}$), respectively.
In this study, rubber vulcanization property, change in physical property, morphology and chemical characteristics of blended rubber depending on various IR/CR ratio were investigated for the purpose of the improvement of material property and durability. The effect of surface treatment by chlorine on the friction coefficient was also studied with various conditions of surface treatment. In terms of vulcanization property, as the amount of CR content increased, the speed of cure was decreased, while the density of crosslinking stayed constant. It means hardness and modulus were increased as the CR content increased. It is related to change in cure property and mechanical strength was improved by the effect of crystallization reaction. In the aging property, as the CR content increases, the changed amount of basic properties were decreased, which acts as a reducing factor in change of aged property by complementing weak point in mechanical property. It was found that the degree of property change for surface treated samples were reduced. According to the microscopic result, the degree of surface dispersion on rubber blends was increased by increasing CR content. Rubber surface showed uniform direction in pattern with increased smoothness and luster by treatment with chlorine. The degree of rubber reforming was measured by the remaining amount of chlorine and the friction coefficient was dependent on the amount of chlorine combined with rubber. In the initial stage of surface treatment, from 10 to 40 phr, the friction coefficient of specimen was rapidly reduced. However, as the concentration of chlorine solution increased, the change in friction coefficient was decreased.

According to increase of consumer's desire for clean tap water, advanced treatment processes include with membrane, ozone, and granular activated carbon(GAC) were introduced. In order to evaluate the effect of advanced treatment processes for residual chlorine decay and trihalomethane(THM) formation in water distribution system, dissolved organic matter(DOC) removal of each advanced treatment process was investigated. The residual chlorine decay and THM formation using bottle tests were also evaluated. $UV_{254}$ removal in all advanced treatment was better than DOC removal. Especially, DOC by ozone treated was removed as 4% in contrast with sand filtered water, but $UV_{254}$ was removed about 17%. This result might be due to convert from hydrophobic DOC to hydrophilic DOC by ozonation. Ozone/GAC process was most effective process for DOC removal. The residual chlorine decay constants in treated water by sand filtration, ozonation, GAC adsorption, and ozone/GAC processes were 0.0230, 0.0307, 0.0117 and 0.0098 $hr^{-1}$, respectively. The sand filtered water was produced 81.8 ${\mu}g/L$ of THM after 190 hours of reaction time, as the treated water by ozone, GAC, and Ozone/GAC was less produced 6.0, 26.2, 30.3% in contrast with sand filtered water, respectively. Consequently, the durability of residual chlorine and reduction of THM formation were improved by advanced treatment processes.
