진동 에너지 하베스팅 자원을 위한 저전력 MPPT 인터페이스 (Low-Power MPPT Interface for Vibration Energy Harvesting Sources)

  • 본 논문에서는 진동 에너지 수확을 위한 MPPT 제어기능을 갖는 인터페이스 회로를 설계하였다. 설계된 회로는 수확된 교류 형태의 에너지를 시스템 구동에 필요한 직류 형태의 에너지로 정류하고, MPPT Controller를 통해 Open Circuit Voltage(Voc)를 주기적으로 샘플/홀드한 뒤, 입력전압을 최대 가용 전력점의 1/2되는 전압으로 유지시키면서, 수확된 전력을 부하에 전달하는 동작을 한다. 모든 회로들은 0.35-um CMOS 기술을 기반으로 설계되었으며, 모의실험을 통하여 동작을 검증하였다. 모의실험 결과 설계된 회로는 3V 입력전압에서 98nA의 전류를 소모하며, 최대 전력효율은 99.21%이다. 설계된 회로의 칩 면적은 $1.281mm{\times}1.236mm$ 이다.

An Active Voltage Doubling Rectifier with Unbalanced-Biased Comparators for Piezoelectric Energy Harvesters

  • For wearable health monitoring systems, a fundamental problem is the limited space for storing energy, which can be translated into a short operational life. In this paper, a highly efficient active voltage doubling rectifier with a wide input range for micro-piezoelectric energy harvesting systems is proposed. To obtain a higher output voltage, the Dickson charge pump topology is chosen in this design. By replacing the passive diodes with unbalanced-biased comparator-controlled active counterparts, the proposed rectifier minimizes the voltage losses along the conduction path and solves the reverse leakage problem caused by conventional comparator-controlled active diodes. To improve the rectifier input voltage sensitivity and decrease the minimum operational input voltage, two low power common-gate comparators are introduced in the proposed design. To keep the comparator from oscillating, a positive feedback loop formed by the capacitor C is added to it. Based on the SMIC 0.18-μm standard CMOS process, the proposed rectifier is simulated and implemented. The area of the whole chip is 0.91×0.97 mm2, while the rectifier core occupies only 13% of this area. The measured results show that the proposed rectifier can operate properly with input amplitudes ranging from 0.2 to 1.0V and with frequencies ranging from 20 to 3000 Hz. The proposed rectifier can achieve a 92.5% power conversion efficiency (PCE) with input amplitudes equal to 0.6 V at 200 Hz. The voltage conversion efficiency (VCE) is around 93% for input amplitudes greater than 0.3 V and load resistances larger than 20kΩ.

  • Code Division Multiple Access(CDMA) 통신방식을 채택한 휴대용 이동전화기의 중간주파수(intermediate frequency: IF) 아날로그 IC의 송신부를 구성하고 있는 저전력 선형특성을 지닌 CMOS 업 컨버젼 믹서(upconversion mixer)의 설계, 제작 및 특성 측정에 대해 기술하였다. 업 컨버젼 믹서의 구조는 복제 V-I 변환기를 사용하여 그 선형성을 확장한 형태의 회로기술을 채택하였다. 설계된 업 컨버젼 믹서는 $0.8{\mu}\textrm{m}$ N-well CMOS 2-poly/2-metal 공정기술을 사용하여 IC로 구현하였으며 그 크기는 $0.53mm{\times}0.92mm$이다. 소비전력은 3.3V 공급전원과 130MHz Local Oscillation(LO) 클럭이 인가되었을 때 30mW이다. 출력의 1dB compression 특성은 2-tone 입력신호가 인가되고 $25{\Omega}$ 부하를 가질 때에 -28dBm이다.

  • 본 논문에서는 DPSS 기능을 갖는 3중 모드 DC-DC buck 변환기를 설계하였다. 설계된 buck 변환기는 부하 전류가 큰 경우(80mA~500mA)에는 PWM(Pulse Width Modulation) 제어 방식을 사용하고, 부하 전류가 작은 경우(1mA~80mA)에는 PFM(Pulse Frequency Modulation) 제어 방식을 사용하며, 부하 전류가 1mA 이하인 대기모드(sleep-mode)에서는 LDO(Low Drop Out)를 사용한다. 또한, PFM 제어 방식에서 부하 전류가 작은 경우 효율을 증가시키기 위해 DPSS(Dynamic Partial Shutdown Strategy) 기법을 사용하였다. 그 결과 넓은 부하 전류 범위에서 높은 효율을 얻을 수 있다. 제안된 벅 변환기는 CMOS 0.18um 공정을 이용하여 설계되었다. 3.3V의 입력전압을 받아 2.5V의 출력전압으로 강압시키며, 최대 부하전류는 500mA이고, 스위칭 주파수는 1MHz이다. 최대효율은 97.03 %, 칩 크기는 PAD를 포함하여 $1465um{\times}895um$이다.

  • In contrast to conventional electromagnetic motor, USM(Ultrasonic Motor), as piezoelectric ceramic applying ultrasonic mechanical vibration and as frictional-movement type motor, get rotational torque by elastic friction between stator and rotator, The USM, which is small motor without iron cores and coil as a simple structure, has little load weight, has character of high torque at low speed, and can apply a direct drive type without deceleration gear as low speed type. A response of USM from control input is satisfactory, and also generates much torque in low speed driving, and holding torque is much without supplying power. In this study, I designed and made Ultrasonic motor-digital multi controller(USM- DMC) using FPGA chip, A54SX72A made in Actel Corporation. By the minute, USM-DMC can control frequency, duty ratio, and phase difference of USM by llbit digital input from Pc. Therefore, when we use this controller, we can apply to typical parameter, frequency, phase difference, and voltage parameter, to control as well as we can do mixing control like phase-frequency, phase-voltage, frequency-voltage, frequency-phase-voltage, What is more, the strongest point is that it can trace frequency based on optimized frequency because we can input optimized resonant frequency while in motoring.

핵 연료봉 표면보호를 위한 수용성 건식 윤활제 개발 (Development of a Water-soluble Dry Lubricant for Nuclear Fuel Rod Protection)

  • Currently, in order to resist the scratching of the fuel rod surface while fabricating the fuel assembly of the light-water nuclear reactor, we use a solution of nitrocellulose, an explosive material, as a dry lubricant along with its solvent. However, the demand for developing safe and harmless aqueous alternative materials for environment-conservation and field-worker safety has increased. In this study, we demonstrate the preparation of a novel aqueous resin composite using a formulation of aqueous polymeric resin, alcoholic solvent, and water. Subsequently, we characterize this composite on the basis of hardness, adhesive property, and water solubility using plates similar to the fuel rod material. The insertion test of a fuel rod coated with the YS-3 composite shows load values of $18.8-20.5kg/cm^2$, which is comparable with $18.8-20.5kg/cm^2$ of the nitrocellulose coating agent. In addition, the depth and width of longitudinal scratches caused by the YS-3 composite test are 50% higher than those of the standard. We can develop a harmless and safe aqueous dry lubricant to replace the existing NC products through field testing of 264 pieces of fuel rods, after producing 350 kg of the YS-3 prototype. The scratch test for the rod surface showed that weight of chip of YS-3 prototype was smaller than that of NC before and after solvent treatment, indicating the properties of YS-3 prototype was comparable to the counterpart.

Wireless operational modal analysis of a multi-span prestressed concrete bridge for structural identification

  • Low-power radio frequency (RF) chip transceiver technology and the associated structural health monitoring platforms have matured recently to enable high-rate, lossless transmission of measurement data across large-scale sensor networks. The intrinsic value of these advanced capabilities is the allowance for high-quality, rapid operational modal analysis of in-service structures using distributed accelerometers to experimentally characterize the dynamic response. From the analysis afforded through these dynamic data sets, structural identification techniques can then be utilized to develop a well calibrated finite element (FE) model of the structure for baseline development, extended analytical structural evaluation, and load response assessment. This paper presents a case study in which operational modal analysis is performed on a three-span prestressed reinforced concrete bridge using a wireless sensor network. The low-power wireless platform deployed supported a high-rate, lossless transmission protocol enabling real-time remote acquisition of the vibration response as recorded by twenty-nine accelerometers at a 256 Sps sampling rate. Several instrumentation layouts were utilized to assess the global multi-span response using a stationary sensor array as well as the spatially refined response of a single span using roving sensors and reference-based techniques. Subsequent structural identification using FE modeling and iterative updating through comparison with the experimental analysis is then documented to demonstrate the inherent value in dynamic response measurement across structural systems using high-rate wireless sensor networks.

자동 스위칭 기능을 갖는 이중입력 에너지 하베스팅 회로 (An Auto-Switching Dual-Input Energy Harvesting Circuit)

  • 본 논문에서는 자동 스위칭 기능을 갖는 이중 입력 에너지 하베스팅 회로를 제안한다. 열전소자와 진동소자로부터 출력되는 에너지는 최대 가용전력지점이 개방전압의 1/2로 같기 때문에 동일한 MPPT(Maximum Power Point Tracking) 제어회로를 사용할 수 있다. 제안된 회로는 하나의 MPPT 제어회로를 사용하고, 자동 스위칭 기능을 적용하여 열전소자의 출력과 진동소자의 출력을 모니터링하여 전압이 더 큰 소자로부터 최대 가용전력을 수확한다. 수확된 에너지는 전하펌프 회로에 의해 승압된 후 저장 커패시터에 저장되고 PMU(Power Management Unit)를 통해 부하에 공급된다. 제안된 회로는 $0.35{\mu}m$ CMOS 공정으로 설계하였으며, 모의실험을 통해 동작을 검증하였다. 설계된 최초의 칩 면적은 PAD를 포함하여 $1.4mm{\times}1.2mm$이다.

  • 본 논문에서는 진동 에너지를 이용한 MPPT 제어기능을 갖는 에너지 하베스팅 회로를 설계하였다. Body-bias technique과 bulk-driven technique을 이용하여 저전압에서도 높은 효율특성을 갖는 고성능 AC-DC 변환기를 제안하고 진동에너지 하베스팅 회로 설계에 적용하였다. MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking) 제어는 진동소자의 개방회로전압과 MPP 전압간의 관계를 이용하였으며, 진동소자의 개방회로전압을 주기적으로 샘플링 함으로써 이를 이용해 MPPT 기준전압을 생성하고, 이를 기준으로 부하로의 에너지 공급을 제어한다. $0.35{\mu}m$ CMOS 공정으로 설계된 회로의 칩 면적은 $1.21mm{\times}0.98mm$이다.

  • This paper describes the whole development phase for the underwater vehicle actuating system with high hydroload torque disturbance. This includes requirement analysis, system modeling, control algorithm design, real time implementation, test and performance evaluations. As for driving control algorithms, fuzzy logic, variable structure and PD(Proportional-Differential) algorithm were designed and implemented on board controller using a single chip microprocessor. Intel 8797. And test and performance evaluation is carried out both single test and wystem integration test. We could confirm the basic performance of actuating system through the single test and gereral developing work of any actuating systems was finished with a single performance test of actuating system without system integration test. But, we suggested that system integration test be needed. System integration test is carried out using G/C HILS(Guidance and Control Hardware-In-the -Loop Simulation) which is constituted flight motion simulator, load simulator, real time host computer and the related subsystems such as inertial navigation system, power supply system and Guidance and Control Computer etc.. The most important practical contribution of this paper is that full system characteristics such as minimal control effort, enhancement of guidance and autopilot performance by the actuating system using G/C HILS technique are investigated. Through full running G/C HILS, in spite of the passing to single tests, some control algorithm resulted in failure as to stability of full system and system time frame.
