Then the author made a categorization standard and did a general analysis of featured data rooms through multiple categorization steps. There are Basic Type, General Type, Book-Shelf Centered Type, Book-shelf Scattered type and Multi-Functional Type out of this categorization steps. In sum, six categorizing bases, dividing infant room from child room, space zonning, position of entrance, compactness of reading space, position of book-shelf and orientation of book-shelf will be important design standards for child data-room of future libraries and an effective guide-lines for other unit data-rooms.

The literature review shows that students can improve their English literacy skills by not only reading authentic books, but also participating in English literacy programs at the public library. The analysis of the gathered data reveals that public libraries provide extensive programs customized to students' needs. It is also shown that reading programs at the public libraries play an important role in improving students' literacy skills. With the analysis of the literacy programs at various libraries nationwide or abroad, we can understand the importance of the English literacy programs. Especially English Literacy programs in public libraries can be more effective to improve students' English literacy skills. • Today's public libraries in communities are on the processes of changes to integrate information and communication technology into traditional library system in order to support current users' demands for the new digital era. The purpose of this study is to examine the changing characters on space design and space uses of community based public libraries by conducting case studies of three branch libraries which were built after 2004 in Ann Arbor, Michigan in the United States. As the conclusion of this research, the findings of the case studies are utilized as basic data for planning and design guidelines for public libraries as community resources. The study summarizes the characteristics of space design and space uses in public libraries as follow; first, the floor plans of small-scale public libraries are open visually as well as spatially. The space organization of the libraries is arranged by potential noise levels, as placing noisy spaces near the entrance halls and quiet spaces at the back. Main book shelves are located in the middle of the library buildings, while seats are arranged along the window sides. By placing various kinds of furniture in open reading areas, library users can select different types of seats and tables for their comforts. Second. the survey of observation also finds that a large number of users often use library computers and personal computers to connect the internet at the libraries. These personal computer users who are new user group in community based libraries preferred to sit in casual study areas and individual tables with one or two seats only. Third, the libraries, in addition, develop and provide various programs and events for people in communities. Especially, the programs for children, the elderly and new comers from the abroad are well prepared, thus provide opportunities for them to visit the libraries in regular bases. The survey finds that family entertainment and leisure activities are the important parts of the program as well as renting music CD and movie DVD are also important reasons for people to come. Thus, the libraries prepare high quality children's space and CD shelves near the entrance hall.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the status and also to develop improvement plans for the children and youth services of the public libraries. To determine the information service status and the librarians' perceptions on the levels of services they provided, the 2016 Korean National Library Statistics System data and the survey results from the children and youth program librarians in the 108 public libraries were analyzed. The analysis revealed the problems such as lack of human resources and budget, shortage of space, and an inflexible program curriculum, which affect the program as a whole negatively. Five suggestions were made to remedy the problems. They are: 1) development of the new programs, which can interest the children and youth and motivate the sense of association among the program participants; 2) increase the number of the programs including the schools and other related organizations nearby region; 3) incorporating the new program formats to enhance the participation; 4) starting the new services explicitly targeted for the information-poor group of people; and 5) soliciting policy-level support for the libraries. In summary, this study made a few suggestions for the libraries ranging from planning the programs to requesting assistance from the national as well as the regional governments.

  • In this study, we attempted to propose operational directions for each space in order to transform the newly built library in Yangpyeong-gun into a space for cultural enjoyment and creativity development for local residents. To this end, the purpose is to understand the space composition status of Yangpyeong-gun public libraries and establish an operation plan (draft) for the space to be constructed. To this end, we analyzed the names, operation status, and cases of similar spaces in other libraries, and analyzed the spatial characteristics of library cases to establish a space operation plan for the Yangpyeong-gun public library. As a result of the study, it is important to utilize spaces such as children's resource rooms to improve early reading habits for infants and children, contribute to development, and develop various senses, and small theaters should be planned with a focus on large-scale performances. Furniture and space for reading and relaxation should be provided next to Byeokmyeonga & Bookstair, and it should be operated as a communication space where small talk is possible within a certain limit. It is necessary to operate the multipurpose room by activating experiential creative activities and creative performances. It is necessary for the club room to establish an operation plan through regular communication and opinion sharing. The maker space space is a space that supports various creative activities, and the general data room is a place that provides materials on all topics and must be operated by regularly communicating with users and reflecting their opinions. Lastly, I would like to suggest that the family room should be used like a book cafe where children and parents can freely drink tea together in the same space.

  • This study analyzed the effectiveness of visiting reading programs for vulnerable children, focusing on the case of libraries in A-si, Gyeonggi-do. Library A utilized a visiting teacher to deliver books that matched the children's levels and interests through non-face-to-face interactions, or to engage in face-to-face reading sessions and deliver books together. In 2022, a total of 158 individuals from 103 families participated in the program, with 103 individuals from 67 families delivering books and 55 individuals from 36 families engaging in book reading activities. Pre- and post-project surveys were conducted to assess the reading effects, and interviews were conducted with the visiting teachers. The analysis revealed that the level and interest of the children during book delivery and reading sessions were identified, and the effects of reading books with high levels of interaction were significant. Infants who were able to easily acquire reading experiences according to their age exhibited better reading effects compared to elementary school students. The program aimed at the new participant group showed slightly greater effectiveness than the group of continuing participants. Furthermore, following the implementation of the program, improvements were observed in reading interest, reading attitude, reading environment, reading interaction, self-esteem, social skills, language ability, reading proficiency, self-directed learning ability, and library utilization rate.

  • Young adults are not met adequately by the traditional public library service patterns, being compared for children and adults even though they belong to the main user groups in number. Adolescence is a unique developmental stage distinct from childhood and adulthood and it is fair to say that today's young adults face complex present and confusing future. Projects are made to address the full spectrum of the young adults needs and the important role of public libraries as partners to solve the social youth problems in the USA. The library professional organizations issued young adult service guidelines, recommendations, and manuals to assist public libraries to offer good service programs to young adults. This paper provides the basics of young adult services in the public libraries to help Korean public libraries acknowledge the importance of young adult services and improve the framework of young adult services.
