Methods: Two professors of early childhood education, two directors of daycare centers, and two early childhood education teachers participated in the focus group interview. The interview was conducted three times. The interviewed data were categorized and compared. Results: The action competence of the play-centered curriculum required for early childhood teachers were categorized into the following categories; comprehending play, recognizing play, and practicing child-centered play. Detailed factor competencies were required for understanding play, reflective thinking, reading play, recording play, playing like a child, and supporting play. • Objective: This study employed a pretest-posttest quasi-experimental design to evaluate the effectiveness of the Respected Parents & Respected Children(RPRC) parent education program developed for working mothers of dual-income families with young children. Methods: A total of 32 working mothers were randomly assigned to two groups, an intervention group (n = 16) and a control group (n = 16). Mothers in the intervention group participated in the parent education program. After the termination of the program, differences between the pretest and posttest in terms of mothers'parenting behaviors, parenting efficacy and parental role satisfaction were compared in both groups. Results: Mothers in the intervention group were significantly improved in their parenting behaviors and parenting efficacy, whereas mothers in the control group did not show any significant differences between pretest and posttest scores. However, there was no significant difference in parental role satisfaction between the intervention group and the control group. Conclusion/Implications: These findings suggest that RPRC parent education program is effective in bringing about positive changes in working mothers'parenting confidence, which can be crucial for the future developmental outcomes of their children.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the difference of the father's and mother's reactions to their children's negative emotions, relations among the children's variables, parent's variables, and parent's reactions. The subjects selected were 183 mothers and 183 fathers with children aged three to five-years-old, from a childcare center and kindergarten in Kwang-ju. Parental emotion-related practices regarding children's negative emotions were assessed with an adaptation of the CCNES(Fabes et al, 1990) that was modified by Kim Hee-Jung(1994). Descriptives, Pearson's correlation coefficient, were used for data analysis by using the SPSS 15.0 program. The results of this study can be summarized as follows: First, fathers and mothers used more positive reactions than negative reactions when their children showed negative emotions. The mothers were significantly higher than fathers on encouragement of expression, punitive, and distress reactions. Second, the children's age and gender, parent's age, level of education and income were negatively and positively correlated to the father's and mother's reactions to their children's negative emotions.

The activity of child care teachers for the category of capability proposed by the NCS showed significant differences depending on work experience. The degree of awareness of child care teachers for the category of capability proposed by the NCS showed significant differences depending on work experience. The difference between the activity of child care teachers and the degree of awareness of child care teachers for the category of capability proposed by the NCS showed significant differences. Conclusion: In the future, it is necessary for the NCS to be constantly supplemented and ensure that the capability to perform practical functions is fulfilled in daycare centers.
