The objective of this study was to empirically analyze the effect that the perceptions professionalism perceived by social workers at local child care centers wold have on organizational commitment. For this study, the social workers at local child care centers in Jeollanam-do were surveyed. 286 sets of questionnaires were used for analysis among the collected ones, excluding the missing values. The results of analysis showed that the professionalism score was above the medium level while the service conviction score was found to be the highest. A positive(+) correlation was observed between perceptions professionalism and organizational commitment. Particularly, the correlation was the highest between occupational consciousness of mission and organizational commitment. Meanwhile, the results of multiple regression analysis suggested that the organizational commitment was affected by occupational consciousness of mission and utilization of professional organization, the sub-variables of perceptions professionalism. Moreover, it was found that the occupational consciousness of mission had the greatest influence on organizational commitment. Based on aforesaid results of analysis, this study presented the direction for the improvement of perceptions professionalism and organizational commitment among social workers of local child care centers, along with the challenges for the succeeding studies.
Based on the framework of self-determination theory and past relevant literature, the study develops and estimates a causal relationship between intrinsic motivation, career commitment, and turnover intention. The study utilizes data from a cross-sectional survey conducted on 353 child welfare workers of the fields of foster care, child protective services, and child residential care all over the country. The study relies on Structural Equation Modeling(SEM) method. The results of Confirmatory Factor Analysis indicate the validity of measurement model. The results of SEM tests show a good fit of the proposed model. Controlling the level of salary and the working hours of the workers, the model reveals that intrinsic motivation is positively related to career commitment, and that career commitment is negatively related to turnover intention. In other words, the effect of intrinsic motivation on turnover intention is mediated by career commitment. Implications of the findings for practice and study limitations are discussed.
Objectives : The aim of this study was to examine the level of oral health knowledge, oral health importance, oral health status and oral health interest of the social workers engaged in child care facilities to analyze the influential factors on oral health promotion activities and provide the basic data for oral health promotion activities. Methods : The subjects in this study were those social workers engaged in child care facilities from May 15th to May 25th in 2011. The self-report questionnaires were distributed and withdrawn and then a total of 205 papers from the subjects that participated in this study were analyzed for the final analysis. Results : 1. Oral health knowledge had $12.16{\pm}1.66$ in a full score of 15 and oral health importance, oral health status and oral health interest were $1.12{\pm}0.36$, $2.80{\pm}0.50$ and $2.14{\pm}0.8$ respectively in a full score of 5. 2. According to the general characteristics, the difference analysis of cognition-recognition factors showed that singles had significantly higher oral health knowledge married couples (p<0.05) and the social workers unusing auxiliary oral hygiene devices had significantly higher oral health interest than those using them(p<0.01). 3. The mean of oral health promotion was $3.28{\pm}0.51$, characteristics of detailed specific-area were as follows ; the toothbrushing was $3.77{\pm}0.57$, the use of fluoride was $2.67{\pm}0.98$, periodic dental screening and treatment were $2.98{\pm}1.09$ and eating habits was $4.14{\pm}0.57$. These results generally showed tooth-brushing and eating habits show a little higher figures. 4. Considering the factors oral health promotion behaviors of social workers engaged in child care facilities, the higher oral health interest was, the higher oral health promotion behavior was. Conclusions : It seems that social workers engaged in child care facilities are required to pay attention to the importance of oral health and learn oral health knowledge, which will lead to much better improvement of oral health for children brought up by them.

Objective: The purpose of this study is to examine occupational safety accidents of child care teacher and to suggest preventive measure in occupational safety health and safety for child-care teacher. Methods: We investigated laws, policy, and previous studies related occupational safety and health for child care teacher. Especially, we reviewed the legal definition of child-care teacher to identify whether Occupational Safety and Health acts cover child-care teacher. Also cross tabulation and a qualitative analysis were conducted for occupational accidents in child care centers from 2013-2018. Results: Safety and health related policies to protect child care centers have been carried out by child care Center Safety and Insurance Association and the Child Care Support Center, but it has mainly been functioned to protect children excluding child care teacher. The most occupational accidents occur in worker aged 40s. The most type of occupational accident were falling down on the floor and surface. Also we could find that there is a high risk of falls, and musculoskeletal disorders through qualitative analysis on occupational accidents cases of child-care teacher. Conclusion/Implications: We suggest to improve the system for protecting child care workers including strengthening occupational safety and health education for child care workers, expanding coverage of national project to prevent occupational accidents.
The aim of this study is to understand the ethical struggles of Child Protective Service(CPS) social workers and to indicate some implications for future studies by conducting research focusing on their ethical dilemmas and decision-making. This study used qualitative methods, in particular the phenomenological approach and 14 in-depth semi-structured interviews with CPS social workers, and were conducted and analyzed using the procedures of Colaizzi(1978). This study looks at the following research questions: 1) What kind of ethical dilemmas do CPS social workers encounter? This means what ethical dilemmas do they directly or indirectly encounter because of policy or system inadequacies and huge caseloads. 2) How do the CPS social workers make decisions when they are faced with ethical dilemmas? Making the best decisions with all of their responsibilities and burdens is the focus of this question. This study suggests the following discussions: First, efforts to emphasize 'ethics' at CPS are needed. Second, proper policies and systems based on the Korean situation are needed so that CPS social workers won't have to face 'needless' ethical dilemmas. Third, an index of ethical problems or ethical codes is necessary because principles are important to those social workers who face ethical dilemmas. Fourth, an ethical committee that protects the CPS social workers by supporting their decisions and being responsible for them is needed. Last, a debriefing system that reduces a CPS social worker's psychological trauma caused by ethical dilemmas should be available.
Purpose: This study aims to come up with improvement measures to improve the effectiveness of child safety measures. Method: The current status of child safety accidents was investigated and implications were deduced by analyzing major child safety measures by government department in the past. In addition, a perception survey was conducted on 1,000 people including children, guardians, and children's facility workers who are subject to child safety policies. Result: Regarding the safety of children's living space(environment), 35.3% of guardians answered that more than 1/3 of them were not safe. Both guardians(95.3%) and children's facility workers(89%) answered that there was the highest risk of 'traffic accidents', and the second risk factor was parents(carelessness of workers at children's facilities) and children's facility workers(careless of guardians at home). Looking at the risks by place, "road and sidewalk" was the most dangerous place and for child safety, guardians(64.3%) and workers (78.3%) both said that the role of "parent" is the most important. For improvements to prevent child safety accidents, the response rate of "strengthening safety management of road traffic facilities" is the most necessary with 75.8% for guardians and 65% for child use facilities. Conclusion: The reinforcement measures to strengthen the effectiveness of child safety measures are as follows. First, in order to ensure the continuity of child safety measures, it should be operated effectively so that those subject to the establishment of the Comprehensive Plan for Child Safety, which took effect in August 2022, can feel it. Second, in order to improve the sensitivity of children's policy targets, promotion measures that take into account the characteristics of each child safety field should be continuously strengthened. Third, it is necessary to expand safety infrastructure for each field to secure child safety. Fourth, it is necessary to strengthen safety education that can ensure safety for children themselves and to come up with detailed measures to make safety education for parents(guardians) mandatory.
This research explored parenting education programs for be college students and adolescent workers, and it was focused on determining whether different parenting education programs were needed for college students and adolescent workers. The participants were 254 college students in Suncheon and 135 adolescent industrial workers in Ulsan. Data were gathered via questionnaires and two-way ANOVA analyses of parenting effectiveness by sex and social status(college student, versus adolescent industrial worker), and by age and social status were performed. There were no significant differences based on sex, age, or social status, and no interaction effect. However, there were significant differences in adolescents' parenting effectiveness depending on childhood parenting experiences, parenting knowledge, and parenting education program experience. Among the predictors(sex, age, social status, childhood parenting experience, parenting knowledge, and parent education experiences) adolescents' childhood parenting experiences was the strongest variable for predicting parenting effectiveness. In this regard, the results confirmed Bronfenbrenner's Ecological System's Theory that family influences children's belief systems about parenting effectiveness in the microsystem. Furthermore, the results indicate that a different parenting education program is not needed for college students and adolescent industrial workers, respectively; instead, a more comprehensive parenting education program for all adolescents - regardless of social status is needed. And based on the present study's results, the importance of child development knowledge, and parent-child relationships in parenting education programs was also confirmed. From a broader social perspective, all adolescents are encouraged to participate in parenting education programs.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of case management in child welfare facilities to determine what the inhibiting factors as well as complementary factors are. For this purpose, data from 181 workers in community children's centers and 96 workers in child protection agencies and foster care centers were analyzed, the analyzed by using SPSS 21.0 program. In the case of community children's center interpersonal skills, case management guidelines, super vision, and network utilization were the influential factors while in other child welfare facilities, personal inhibitory factors, social welfare work experience, case management experience, and network utilization were the affecting factors. The implications reveal that social welfare practice should enhance the interpersonal skills of the workers, strengthen the supervision system, and provide a clear case management guideline. It is also important to set up a network of all local child welfare facilities and strengthen cooperation and mutual support among the institutions within the network.
This qualitative study explores how Mongolian migrant workers, with a marked tendency for family migration, plan and put into practice their child's education and attach meaning to it in relation to the social network they form during their stay in Korea. Specifically, it analyzes in particular ways the social network Mongolian migrant workers form affect their settlement in Korea, the process by which the social network affects their planning of their child's education, and how the education planning and its realization lead to the formation of new social networks. The results show that parents were divided between those who made a deliberate decision in sending their child to the Seoul Mongol School as a part of their plan and those who chose the school due to forced circumstances. While some parents preferred the Seoul Mongol School over regular Korean schools for their child's education and future, others sent their child to the Seoul Mongol School, regardless of their preference, because they did not have access to information about regular Korean schools, were afraid of divulging their illegal status, or were afraid their child would not be able to adjust to the school life in Korean schools. Based on such analysis, this paper stresses the urgency of further research in this area, and suggests direction for future policy measures.
Relations of factors associated with burnout were investigated among 124 child protective service workers currently working in Korean Child Abuse Prevention Centers nationwide. Three categories of factors associated with burnout were examined; (1) individual characteristics, (2) job-related characteristics, and (3) job-satisfaction. Social survey method using questionnaires by mail was employed. MBI(Maslach Burnout Inventory) for measuring burnout, a part of Smith, Kendal & Hulin's JDI(Job Description Index) for job-satisfaction, and a scale measuring the special characteristics of job developed by researchers were used. Mann-Whitney test and Kruskal-Wallis test were employed to analyze the data. Across all burnout sub-scales(emotional depletion, dehumanization of clients, lack of feelings of achievement), subjects reported a high degree(above the cutting point) of burnout. Several factors were identified as associated with burnout. Child protective service workers who are young, single with front line worker status reported higher burnout. Lack of education and training before the job location were another factors which contributed to worker burnout. Lack of proper supervision stood out as another burnout provoking factor. Job-satisfaction was negatively correlated with all three burnout sub-scales, which meant the lower the job-satisfaction, the higher the burnout of service workers. The findings implicate that the administrators of Child Abuse Prevention Centers should pay close attention to their workers' sign of burnout and develop carefully designed support system which include provision of excellent supervision, proper education and training opportunities and organizational effort to strengthen employees' overall job-satisfaction to secure their quality of services toward abused children and their family.
