This study is designed to examine the current status of the performance warranty systems for asphalt pavements implemented in Europe, USA, and Japan, and to review the feasibility and possibility of introducing this system into the Korean environment. For such objectives, the concept and necessity of performance warranty and the status of Korean contracting systems and overseas performance warranty systems were evaluated. In particular, the bidding systems, performance guarantee systems, and maintenance work inclusion status in the projects and warranty specifications of Europe, USA and Japan were comparatively evaluated. And methods of introducing the performance warranty system by utilizing defects liability system and design-build contracts of Korea were suggested.

The sound we hear is transmitted through the atmosphere. However, both the sound we want to hear and the surrounding sound are mixed, and noise is generated, and the sound is not clearly transmitted due to factors such as distance. In particular, in closed spaces like buildings, it is often difficult to hear sounds from outside because of the sound of reflection. People with hearing impairments, such as the elderly and the deaf, have a hard time hearing the sounds they want to hear. Thus, we are developing a hearing aid that can detect radio waves. To this end, we propose the development of a hearing aid that uses FM radio and Bluetooth. These devices are expected to be useful not only for the elderly and the deaf but also in situations where information is transmitted to a large number of people, such as students and tourists, in a large space. The main purpose of this device is to enable users to hear sound correctly without blind spots.

Xanthoma is a localized collection of tissue histocytes containing lipid. The majority of tendinous xanthomas probably occurs in the setting of hypercholesterolemia especially in bilateral Achilles tendon xanthomas. Xanthoma of the Achilles tendon is a rather rare, interesting orthopaedic condition that has important ramifications in internal medicine and dermatology because the lesion is associated with a specific disturbance of lipid metabolism. We experienced one case of normolipidemic and symptomatic Achilles tendon xanthoma. Surgical intervention was carried out for cosmetic and symptomatic reasons, the patient undergoing total resection and a reconstruction of the Achilles tendon by the combinedV-Y muscle flap and modified Lindholm technique.

Chondroblastoma is relatively rare benign neoplasm with predilection for the epiphysis of long bones. Benign chondroblastomas of bone compromise approximately 1% of benign bone tumors in several reported series. Chondroblastoma in the carpus is extremely rare in english literature. We report the case of a chonroblastoma in the carpal scaphoid.

To examine effects of oriental pharmaceutical preparations on immunity, four of such preparations which are currently being used were examined. After their fluid extracts were injected intraperitoneally to ICR mice, the counts of total cell number, PMN and macrophage in the peritoneal cavity were made by using non-specific esterase staining method, and plaque-forming cells (PFC) were measured by using the modified method of Cunningham and Jerne. The results showed that 'Bo-Jung-Ik-Ki-Tang', 'Ih-Jung-Tang', 'Ohn-Kyeong-Tang' and 'Ke-Ji-Bok-Ryeong-Hwan-Ka-Dae-Hwang' increased both the macrophages and the total cells of the peritoneal cavity and that these preparations increased the number of PFC in the spleen. Therefore the data indicate that they potentiate both of the cell­mediated and humoral immunities in the mice.

To investigate antitumor components of Korean higher fungi, the carpophores of Schizophyllum commune and Auricularia auricula-judae collected in Kyeong Buk Province were extracted with hot water or 0.1N-NaOH solution. The concentrated extracts were precipitated by addition of ethanol, and the precipitates were purified by dialyzing through visking tube and polysaccharide fractions were obtained. They were found to show antitumor activity against sarcoma 180 implanted in mice. Especially, the inhibition ratio of the extract of Auricularia adicula-judae was 90.8% in the doses of 100mg/kg/day for the period of ten days. The tumor in five of the eight mice was completely regressed. The components of these aqueous extracts were found to be polysaccharide and protein. The hydrolysis of the respective polysaccharide yielded four monosaccharides. After hydrolysis of the protein fraction, 15 amino acids were identified in the respective fraction of S. commune and A. auricula-judae.
