The main objectives of this study are develop an Electro-Chemical process for dyeing wastewater treatment. In this work, We are investigated to optimization of electro-chemical process condition such as pH, additives(NaCl), reaction time, current density. As a result, About 89% of color(influent 452.5 ptco. unit) was removed by Electro-Chemical process using type C $SnO_2$ electrode. This results are promising potential for dyeing wastewater treatment.
This study demonstrates that low pressure membranes are the ideal choice for industrial and/or municipal wastewater treatment by showing some promising experimental results, understanding different membrane filtration models, studying the potential of membrane bioreactors (MBRs), considering ceramic membranes fabrication and illustrating the role of nanotechnology in membranes. Cost study calculations are included to determine the treatment cost as well as the initial cost of various membrane types. Results showed that integrated membranes are preferred over MBR in case of average capacities. However, higher capacity situations are the most economical choice for MBR. It is shown that the least treatment cost in MBR was about $0.13/m^3$. However, the $0.13/m^3$ is the theoretical cost which is very small compared to the actual average MBR treatment cost of $0.5/m^3$.
Comprehensive environmental impact of wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) was evaluated with life cycle assessment (LCA) methodology based on ISO 14040. As environmental impact assessment method, Eco-indicator 95 and Eco-indicator 99 were used. The studied WWTP had a capacity of $100,000m^3/d$, and its life span of civil structure and main machinery was designed to 40 years and 20 years, respectively. As the results, more than 95% of environmental impact was produced by using electricity and chemical use in operation stage. In construction stage, temporary shoring facility was the major reason of environmental load, however, its impact was much less than those by operation utilities.
The aim of this study was to investigate the bio-adsorption using modified zeolite with Mg (Mg-zeolite) in the dyeing wastewater treatment. Mg-zeolite adsorbed successfully 100% of the color, suspended solid (SS). chemical oxygen demand (COD), biological oxygen demand (BOD), total nitrogen (TN) and total phosphorus (TP) in the dyeing wastewater at the following optimal Mg-zeolite loading: 20 mg/L for colour, SS, TN and TP, 30 mg/L for BOD and COD. These results indicated that the amount of 1 mg/L Mg-zeolite adsorbed 11.6 mg/L for color, 9.5 mg/L for SS, 45.0 mg/L for COD, 12.7 mg/L for BOD, 0.91 mg/L for TP and 2.25 mg/L for TN. The bio-adsorbent, Mg-zeolite, can be a promising adsorption due to its high efficiency and low dose requirements.
Wastewater treatment plants need to reduce phosphorus in order to meet increasingly stringent regulations on phosphorus. This study evaluated the feasibility of dolomite as a coagulation aid to enhance phosphorus removal from secondary treated wastewater by chemical coagulation. Standard jar tests were conducted to evaluate the effect of dolomite addition on a coagulation process for phosphorus removal and to determine the optimum doses of coagulants and dolomite. Coagulants used with dolomite yielded a significant improvement in phosphorus removal and reduced total phosphorus concentrations below 0.02 mg/L in wastewater effluent. Dolomite has played an important role in enhancing phosphate adsorption and increasing pH, as a coagulation aid. The maximum removal efficiency of phosphorus in this study was yielded at 25 mg/l of dolomite and 20 mg Al/L of PAC dose. However, considering economic aspects, the optimum doses of dolomite and PAC were 10 mg/L and 15mg Al/L, respectively. Consequently, dolomite, a coagulation aid, can be used in coagulation processes to enhance the removal of phosphorus.
Dyeing wastewater contains recalcitrant organics which can not be easily treated by conventional biological treatment. Therefore it has to be treated by other advanced oxidation process in order to remove COD and Color more efficiently. Fenton oxidation process is one of the most commonly applied processes in removal of COD and color for the dyeing wastewater. However it increase the treatment cost and the production of sludge by the use of the excessive chemical reagent. Ozonation is not suitable in Single treatment process because it is not effective in organics removal compared with Color removal. The purpose of this research in order to evaluate the comparable removal efficiency of COD and color by the combination of advanced oxidation processes for the dyeing wastewater. The sequential treatment processes of Fenton process and ozonation was more effective to remove organics and color than ozonation and Fenton process. The result of Fenton process for the pretreatment presented as the 81% removal of organics whereas ozonation process for the pretreatent presented as the 22.1% removal of organics. The removal of colour was higher as 81.3% for the ozonation as the pretreatment than 77.7% for the Fenton process as the pretreatment.
Destablization and demulsification is a difficult task for the treatment of waste oil-in-water drilling fluid because of its "three-high" characteristics: emulsification, stabilization and oiliness. At present, China is short for effective treating technology, which restricts cleaner production in oilfield. This paper focused on technical difficulties of waste oil-in-water drilling fluid treatment in JiDong oilfield of China, adopting physical-chemical collaboration demulsification technology to deal with waste oil-in-water drilling fluid. After oil-water-solid three-phase separation, the oil recovery rate is up to 90% and the recycled oil can be reused for preparation of new drilling fluid. Meanwhile, harmless treatment of wastewater and sludge from waste oil-in-water drilling fluid after oil recycling was studied. The results showed that wastewater after treated was clean, contents of chemical oxygen demand and oil decreased from 993 mg/L and 21,800 mg/L to 89 mg/L and 3.6 mg/L respectively, which can meet the requirements of grade one of "The National Integrated Wastewater Discharge Standard" (GB8978); The pollutants in the sludge after harmless treatment are decreased below the national standard, which achieved the goal of resource recovery and harmless treatment on waste oil-in-water drilling fluid.
The measurement and monitoring of the biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) play an important role in the planning and operation of wastewater treatment plants. The most basic method for determining biochemical oxygen demand is direct measurement. However, this method is both expensive and takes a long time. A five-day period is required to determine the biochemical oxygen demand. This study has been carried out in a wastewater treatment plant in Turkey (Hurma WWTP) in order to estimate the biochemical oxygen demand a shorter time and with a lower cost. Estimation was performed using artificial neural network (ANN) method. There are three different methods in the training of artificial neural networks, respectively, multi-layered (ML-ANN), teaching learning based algorithm (TLBO-ANN) and artificial bee colony algorithm (ABC-ANN). The input flow (Q), wastewater temperature (t), pH, chemical oxygen demand (COD), suspended sediment (SS), total phosphorus (tP), total nitrogen (tN), and electrical conductivity of wastewater (EC) are used as the input parameters to estimate the BOD. The root mean squared error (RMSE) and the mean absolute error (MAE) values were used in evaluating performance criteria for each model. As a result of the general evaluation, the ML-ANN method provided the best estimation results both training and test series with 0.8924 and 0.8442 determination coefficient, respectively.
Life cycle assessment (LCA) methodology can be used to assess impacts on the environment that might be generated during treatment of wastewater and sludge treatment. In this work, LCA methodology was suggested to evaluate monthly environmental impact of wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs). Two field scale WWTPs, A2/O process and conventional activated sludge process (CAS), were selected as target plants and the operational data were collected from those plants. As the function units, the unit volume of treated wastewater of $1m^3$ and 1 kg T-N eq. removed were selected. The environmental effect of target WWTPs operation were assessed as impact categories such as global warming potential, eutrophication potential, and so on. From monthly profiles of each index, it was shown that the environmental impact of WWTPs has seasonal patterns influenced by the influent flow rate variation causing higher impacts in winter than summer. This is due to the fact that there were no significant increase in the electricity consumption and chemical usage during the summer while the treated volume of wastewater was increased.
