  • We report here our recent progress in the development and commercialization of polyfluorenes emitting red, green and blue (ROB) colors as materials for light emitting diodes (LEDs). Our patented version of the Suzuki coupling process has been used to synthesize a variety of fluorenebased homopolymers and copolymers emitting colors across the entire visible spectrum. The optical and electronic properties of the polymers are tailored through selective incorporation of different aromatic units into the polyfluorene backbone. Our latest green emitter, reported herein, provides very efficient devices with a low turn-on voltage of 2.25 V, a peak efficiency of 10.5 Cd/A at 6,600 Cd/$m^2$ at 4.85 V. These devices maintain an efficiency of greater than 10 Cd/A up to 50,000 Cd/$m^2$ and demonstrate very good stability as exemplified by a device half-life of greater than 1,500 hours starting from 1,100 Cd/$m^2$. Considerable progress has also been made with red and blue emitters and will be the subject of this presentation.

  • Dielectric polymer films produced from benzocyclobutene (BCB) formulations (CYCLOTENE* family resins) are known to possess many desirable properties for microelectronic applications; for example, low dielectric constant and dissipation factor, low moisture absorption, rapid curing on hot plate without reaction by-products, minimum shrinkage in curing process, and no Cu migration issues. Recently, BCB-based products for thick film applications have been developed, which exhibited excellent dissipation factor and dielectric constant well into the GHz range, 0.002 and 2.50, respectively. Derived from these properties, the applications are developed in: bumping/wafer level packaging, Ga/As chip ILD, optical waveguide, flat panel display, and lately in BCB-coated Cu foil for build-up board. In this paper, we review the relevant properties of BCB, then the application areas in bumping/wafer level packaging and BCB-coated Cu foil for build-up board.

  • A self-priming and photosensitive aqueous-basedevelopable benzocyclobutene (BCB)-based dielectric material curable in air is described. Patterned films have high resolution. Whether cured in nitrogen or in air, the formulation produces a film with optical, electrical, thermal, and mechanical properties desired for many microelectronic applications, such as a planarization layer or insulation layer in display applications. A self-priming, air-curable nonphoto- sensitive BCB material is also described.

  • Mixing characteristics of tire chemical additives in the chemical injection tank of the chemical and volume control system(CVCS) were investigated for the Yonggwang Nuclear units 5&6. Numerical calculations were performed with a low-Reynolds number turbulence model. Studies were also conducted for the injection tank with a disk located at 1/4H, 2/4H, and 3/4H from the inlet in order to see the effect in the enhancement of chemical mixing. Results show that the optimum arrangement is to locate a disk close to the inlet.

  • The synthesis of new 5-cyano-1,1-disubstituted phthalans having aromatic and aminoalkyl groups at C-1 position of phthalan ring and their biological evaluation are described. Most compounds exhibited comparable ejaculation-retarding effects to citalopram. Of these compounds, 3a, e showed excellent efficacy in delaying ejaculation.
