Evaluation of the Charging effects of Plug-in Electrical Vehicles on Power Systems, taking Into account Optimal Charging Scenarios (전기자동차의 충전부하 모델링 및 충전 시나리오에 따른 전력계통 평가)

  • Electric Vehicles(EVs) and Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles(PHEVs) which have the grid connection capability, represent an important power system issue of charging demands. Analyzing impacts EVs charging demands of the power system such as increased peak demands, developed by means of modeling a stochastic distribution of charging and a demand dispatch calculation. Optimization processes proposed to determine optimal demand distribution portions so that charging costs and demand can possibly be managed. In order to solve the problems due to increasing charging demand at the peak time, alternative electricity rate such as Time-of-Use(TOU) rate has been in effect since last year. The TOU rate would in practice change the tendencies of charging time at the peak time. Nevertheless, since it focus only minimizing costs of charging from owners of the EVs, loads would be concentrated at times which have a lowest charging rate and would form a new peak load. The purpose of this paper is that to suggest a scenario of load leveling for a power system operator side. In case study results, the vehicles as regular load with time constraints, battery charging patterns and changed daily demand in the charging areas are investigated and optimization results are analyzed regarding cost and operation aspects by determining optimal demand distribution portions.

  • In this paper, we studied the charging characteristics of high-capacity supercapacitor with high current for RF wireless charging system for smart phone charging. The dc output of the RF-DC receiver is connected to supercapacitor after which is connected to DC-DC converter for charging a smart phone. This configuration stably supplies voltage and current for charging it. Studies show that the higher charging current use, the rapidly shorter the charging time of supercapacitor is. The currents of 2A, 10A and 27A were used for charging supercapacitors. The charging time was measured for 3000F, 6000F, 12000F supercapacitors which is parallelly connected with 3000F supercapacitors.

An Analysis of Voltage Multiplier Circuits for Smart Phone RF Wireless Charging (스마트폰 RF 무선충전을 위한 전압 체배기 회로 분석)

  • A 5.8-GHz 1W wireless power transmission system was used for charging a smart phone. The voltage of one RF power receiver with antenna was not enough for charging. Several power receivers for charging a smart phone was connected serially. The voltage of several RF power receivers are highly enough for charging a smart phone within 50cm. However, the lack of current from small capacitances of RF-DC converters is not suitable for charging smart phone. It means very long charging time. In this paper, the voltage multiplier circuits for RF-DC converters were analyzed to increase the current and voltage at the same time to reduce the charging time in smartphone RF wireless charging. Through the analysis of multiplier circuits, the 7-stage parallel multiplier circuit with voltage-doubler units are suitable for charging the smartphone, which supplies 5V and 700mA at 3V@5.8GHz.

A DQN-based Two-Stage Scheduling Method for Real-Time Large-Scale EVs Charging Service

  • With the rapid development of electric vehicles (EVs) industry, EV charging service becomes more and more important. Especially, in the case of suddenly drop of air temperature or open holidays that large-scale EVs seeking for charging devices (CDs) in a short time. In such scenario, inefficient EV charging scheduling algorithm might lead to a bad service quality, for example, long queueing times for EVs and unreasonable idling time for charging devices. To deal with this issue, this paper propose a Deep-Q-Network (DQN) based two-stage scheduling method for the large-scale EVs charging service. Fine-grained states with two delicate neural networks are proposed to optimize the sequencing of EVs and charging station (CS) arrangement. Two efficient algorithms are presented to obtain the optimal EVs charging scheduling scheme for large-scale EVs charging demand. Three case studies show the superiority of our proposal, in terms of a high service quality (minimized average queuing time of EVs and maximized charging performance at both EV and CS sides) and achieve greater scheduling efficiency.   • The word is endeavoring to reduce greenhouse gases with the sense of crisis caused by the continuous climate change. As a method to decrease greenhouse gases, motors driven by fossil fuels are being substituted by EV in the field of transportation. Meanwhile, for the spread of EV, charging installations are divided into general charging type and quick charging type. Also, charging amount and time are main factors to decide charging pay. But, because the opportunity coast for the charging time varies depending on the private situations, it is very important to understand exact phenomenon for the spread of EV charging installations and charging pay policy. Therefore this paper suggested the choice model of charging installation and time value in various situations by using Logit model to make clear the relationship between a choice of charging installation, charging time and willingness to pay for charge.

  • It is difficult to analyze the charging characteristics of the lead-acid battery, because of the influences by various non-linear and time-variant parameters. In this study, the charging characteristics of high capacity industrial lead-acid battery 630 Ah was investigated through experiments with respect to the variations of temperature and the aged state of battery during the charging process. The database of those characteristics is established from the results of experiments, and the fuzzy logic charging algorithm is suggested using them. The results of experiment shows that the industrial lead-acid batteries can be always fully charged within the saved charging time by the proposed charging control algorithm adapting to the variations of charging condition. This new charging concept will be useful for developing the advanced battery charger improving the efficiency of storing electricity.

Study on Timing Characteristics of High-Voltage Pulse Generation with Different Charging Voltages

  • The time synchronization of each sub-unit of a pulsed generator is important to generate an output high-power radio frequency (RF) signal. To obtain the time synchronization between an input RF signal fed by an external source and an electron beam produced by an electric pulse generator, the influence of different charging voltages on a delay and a rise time of the output pulse waveform in the electric pulse generator should be carefully considered. This paper aims to study the timing characteristics of the delay and the rise time as a function of different charging voltages with a peak value of less than -35 kV in the high-voltage pulse generator, including a trigger generator (TG) and a pulse-forming line (PFL). The simulation has been carried out to estimate characteristics in the time domain, in addition to their output high-voltage amplitude. Experimental results compared with those obtained by simulation indicate that the delay of the output pulses of the TG and PFL, which are made by controlling the external triggering signal with respect to different charging voltages, is getting longer as the charging voltage is increasing, and their rise times are inversely proportional to the amplitude of the charging voltage.

Vehicle Waiting Time Information Service using Vehicle Object Detection at Fuel Charging Station

  • In this study, we created a system that can determine the number of vehicles entering and departing a charging station in real time for solving waiting time problems during refueling. Accordingly, we use the You Only Look Once object detection algorithm to detect and count the number of vehicles in the charging station and send the data to the Firebase Realtime Database. The result is shown using an Android application that provides a map function with the Kakao Maps API at the user interface side. Our system has an accuracy of 91% and an average response time of 3.1 s. Therefore, this system can be used by drivers to determine the availability of a charging station and to identify the charging station with the least waiting time for charging their vehicle.

Heat Transfer Characteristics of the Spherical Capsule Storage System Using Paraffins

  • The present study is to investigate the effect of experimental parameters on the heat transfer characteristics of a spherical capsule storage system using paraffins. N-Tetradecane and mixture of n-Tetradecane 40% and n-Hexadecane 60% were used as paraffins. Water with inorganic material was also tested for the comparison. The experimental parameters were varied for the Reynolds number from 8 to 16 and for the inlet temperature from -7 to 2$^{\circ}C$. Measured local temperatures of spherical capsules in the storage tank were utilized to calculate charging and discharging times, dimensionless thermal storage amount, and the average heat transfer coefficients in the tank. Local charging and discharging times in the storage tank were significantly different. The effect of inlet temperature on charging time was larger than that on discharging time, but the effect of Reynolds number on charging time was smaller than that on discharging time. Charging time of paraffins was faster by 11~72% than that of water with inorganic material, but little difference of discharging time was found among them. The effect of Reynolds number on the dimensionless thermal storage was less during charging process and more during discharging process than the effect of inlet temperature. The effect of the inlet temperature and the Reynolds number on the average heat transfer coefficient of the storage tank was stronger during discharging process than during charging process. The average heat transfer coefficients of the spherical capsule system using paraffins were larger by 40% than those using water.

Thermal performance of the spherical capsule system using paraffin as the thermal storage material (파라핀 축열재를 사용한 구형캡슐 시스템의 전열성능)

  • The purpose of the present work is to show the best thermal storage material and the sensitivity of the parameters on the thermal performance by experimentally investigating the effects of the parameters on the thermal performance of the spherical capsule system using paraffins superior to the commercial one. The paraffins were n-Tetradecane and the mixture of n-Tetradecane 40% and n-Hexadecane 60%. The experimental parameters were the Reynolds number of 8, 12, and 16 and the inlet temperature of-7, -4, -1, and $2^{\circ}C$. The charging and the discharing time, the dimensionless thermal storage amount, and the averge heat transfer coefficient in the tank were obtained by utilizing the local temperature variation in the tank. The local charging and discharging time in the tank was axially and radially different a lot. The effects of the inlet temperature on the charging and the discharging time were larger during the charging process than during the discharging process, but the effects of the Reynolds number on the charging and the discharging time were in reverse order. The paraffins were better by 11~72% than the water with the inorganic material in the charging time aspect, but no difference in the discharging time aspect. The effects of the Reynolds number on the dimensionless thermal storage amount were smaller than the effects of the inlet temperature during the charging process, but in reverse order during the discharging process within the working range of the experimental parameters. The effects of the inlet temperature and the Reynolds number on the average heat transfer coefficient were larger during the discharging process than during the charging process. The average heat transfer coefficient for the paraffins was larger by 40% maximum than that for the commercial material during the charing and the discharging process.
