Development of charge/discharge simulator model for network based vehicle (네트워크 기반 자동차용 충/방전 시스템 시뮬레이터 모델 개발)

  • We propose a charge/discharge model for network based vehicle. These model include motor, alternator, lamp, brake, window brush, air conditioner, etc.. Also, we simulate these models in Matlab. The simulation results show that error range is less than 3%. So, we can adopt these model to charge/discharge simulator for network based vehicle. If this error range can be shrunk within 2%, we can use this simulator for comertial use.

Charge/discharge characteristics by heat treatment condition of cathode active material LiMn$_2$O$_4$ for Li rechargeable batteries (리튬 2차 전지용 정극 활물질 LiMn$_2$O$_4$의 열처리 조건에 따른 충방전 특성)

  • We prepared LiMn$_2$O$_4$ by reacting stoichiometric mixture of LiOH.$H_2O$ and MnO$_2$ (mole ratio 1 : 1) and heating at 80$0^{\circ}C$ for 24h, 36h, 48h, 60h and 70h. We obtained through X-ray diffraction that lattice parameter varied as function of heat treatment time. heated cathode active materials at 80$0^{\circ}C$ for 36h, (111)/(311) peak ratio was 0.37. It expected good charge/discharge characteristics. When (111)/(311) peak ratio was 0.37, it will be that crystal structure is farmed very well. In the result of charge/discharge test When heated at 80$0^{\circ}C$ for 36h, charge/discharge characteristic of LiMn$_2$O$_4$is the most property. It agree with our expectation.

Preparation of Anode Material for Lithium Secondary Battery using Pitch-coated Graphite Residue Compounds

  • The properties and electrochemical characteristics of anode material using pitch-coated graphite residue compounds by heat-treatment at $600^{\circ}C$ for 1 hour were investigated. The distance of layers of pitch-coated graphite residual compounds was 3.3539 ${\AA}$, which was as same as that of graphite. Its electrochemical and charge discharge characteristics were tested according to different four types of carbon material, natural graphite, pitch-coated graphite, amorphous graphite and pitch-coated graphite residual compounds, respectively. So it was shown the best charge-discharge characteristics in all of the samples. For the electrochemical and charge-discharge characteristics, although pitch-coated graphite residual compounds had different carbon contents 70% and 80%, these two samples were shown good electrochemical and charge-discharge characteristics.

  • To understand the discharge characteristics in AC-PDP, it is necessary to study on the wall charge behavior. But, it is difficult to measure the wall charge directly. In this paper, the V-Q Lissajous' figure is used to measure the wall charge indirectly and analyze the wall charge behavior. With the V-Q Lissajous' figure, the discharge characteristics of AC-PDP are studied according to vary driving conditions, such as the frequency, pulse duty ratio, and rising & falling time. As a result, the V-Q Lissajous' figure is used to measure the discharge characteristics of the AC-PDP. It is confirmed that firing initial voltage and firing final voltage for discharge are effected by the aboved variables. Related with the wall voltage generation, it is thought that the difference of the slope at the V-Q Lissajous' figure is caused by charged ions inside the dielectric layer.

  • For an optimal design of automotive electric system, it is important to have a reliable modeling tool to predict the charge-discharge behaviors of the automotive battery. In this work, a two-dimensional modeling was carried out to predict the charge-discharge behaviors of a 12-V automotive lead-acid battery. The model accounted for electrochemical kinetics and ionic mass transfer in a battery cell. In order to validate the modeling, modeling results were compared with the experimental data of the charge-discharge behaviors of a lead-acid battery. The discharge behaviors were measured with three different discharge rates of C/5, C/10, and C/20 at operating temperature of $25^{\circ}C$. The batteries were charged with constant current of 30A until the charging voltage reached to a predetermined value of 14.24 V and then the charging voltage was kept constant. The discharge and charge curves from the measurements and modeling were in good agreement. Based on the modeling, the distributions of the electrical potentials of the solid and solution phases, the porosity of the electrodes, and the current density within the electrodes as well as the acid concentration can be predicted as a function of charge and discharge time.

  • Photovoltaic and fuel cell systems can be used as power source in mobile robots. At this time the photovoltaic system generally generate power in daytime. The starting time of fuel cell is slower than the lithium battery. To compensate for these disadvantages, a battery charge-discharge system is used. Especially the bi-directional converter is used mainly in the charge-discharge method. The controller in a buck converter controls the input voltage of the converter to meet the maximum power point tracking(MPPT) performance. First of all, the simulations of hybrid system for battery charge-discharge system in each step simulated using solar and fuel cell modeling as input source in PSIM. Experiment of the buck and bi-directional converter system is conducted through using photovoltaic/fuel cel simulator(pCube) instead of solar and fuel cell. This hybrid system for battery charge discharge using photovoltaic/fuel cell generates emergency power for the communication system in mobile robot.

A CFD Modeling of Heat Generation and Charge-Discharge Behavior of a Li-ion Secondary Battery (Li-ion 이차전지의 충방전 시 발열 및 충방전 특성의 CFD 모델링)

  • This study investigates a CFD modeling of the charge-discharge behavior due to heat generation during charge-discharge cycles of a Li-ion secondary battery(LIB). Present LIB system adopted a current-density equation, heat and mass transfer governing equations upon the 1-dimensional system to the thickness direction for the rectangular pouch configuration. According to the 3-kinds of the charge-discharge current densities of 1C($17.5A/m^2$), 3C($52.5A/m^2$) and 5C($87.5A/m^2$) subject to a 3 V of cut-off voltage, a constant-temperature system at 298 K and three different heat generating systems were analyzed with comparison. Battery capacity decreases with increment of charge-discharge densities not only at the constant-temperature system but also at the heat-generating system. The time for charge-discharge cycles increases at the heat-generating system compare to the constant-temperature system. These trends are considered that the increase of temperature due to heat generation causes the decrement of equilibrium potential of electrodes and the increment of diffusivity of Li ions. Furthermore, cooling effects were discussed in order to control the influence of heat generation due to charge-discharge behavior of a Li-ion secondary battery.

Electrochemical Charge and Discharge Characteristics of Zr-Based Laves Phase Hydrogen Storage Alloys (Zr계 라-베상 수소저장합금의 전기화학적 충·방전특성)

  • To develop high capacity hydrogen storage alloys for secondary Ni/MH batteries, electrochemical charge/discharge characteristics of $Zr_{1-x}Ti_xMn_{1-y}V_yNi_{1-z}M_z$ (M=Al,Co,Fe) alloys were investigated, in which $0.2{\leq}x{\leq}0.6$, $0.2{\leq}y{\leq}0.8$, $0.2{\leq}z{\leq}0.4$. With increasing Ti content(x) and/or decreasing V content(y), lattice constants and maximum theoretical capacities of the alloys were decreased and equilibrium pressure of hydrogen absorption were increased. Electrochemical discharge capacities were increased with increasing Ti content(x). Especially, the alloys of x= 0.4~0.6 showed better charge/discharge efficiencies than those of x<0.4. Discharge capacities of $Zr_{0.4}Ti_{0.6}Mn_{0.4}V_{0.6}Ni_{0.8}Fe_{0.2}$, $Zr_{0.4}Ti_{0.6}Mn_{0.4}V_{0.6}Ni_{0.8}Al_{0.2}$ and $Zr_{0.5}Ti_{0.5}Mn_{0.4}V_{0.6}Ni_{0.6}Co_{0.4}$ were 385, 328 and 333mAh/g, respectively. These alloys were fully activated within five charge/discharge cycles and had a good charge and discharge rate capabilities and temperature characteristics.

Effect of Address Discharge Characteristics by Selective Reset Method in AC Plasma Display Panel (교류형 플라즈마 디스플레이에서 선택적 초기화 방법에 의한 기입 방전 특성의 영향)

  • The effect of address discharge characteristics by selective reset method is investigated to prevent the weakness of address discharge in the middle of a TV-field without increase of the black luminance. To reduce black luminance in AC PDP usually, the first subfield during one TV frame adopted the conventional rising ramp-reset waveform, whereas the other subfields adopted the subsidiary reset waveform without rising ramp type. As the wall charge for the address discharge was accumulated by only the rising ramp waveform during the first reset period, the wall charge on three electrodes was disappeared as time passed and the address discharge would be weakened in the rear subfields. To prevent a reduction of the address discharge characteristics without decrease the black luminance, the modified rising ramp reset waveform was adopted only in the sixth subfield. As a result, a modified driving method could improve the address discharge characteristics compared with selective reset driving scheme with almost the same black luminance.
