  • The Purpose of this study was to investigate spectrophotometric characteristics of Korean knotweed extracts. The properties were evaluated by it′s extracting solvent, effect of metallic ion, variations of pH values and effect of light exposure. The results were as following; The highest absorbance was found in methanol extract of Korean knotweed, while the lowest absorbance was carbon tetrachloride extract. The UV-vis. spectra of Korean knotweed colors in several solvents showed hypsochromic shift of n-π/sup */ transition with the polarity of solvent. Absorbance and peak of UV-vis. spectra of Korean knotweed colors became lower and broader by addition of metallic ion. The light stability in irradiation with xenon ]amp of the color solution with Cu were higher than those of Al and Fe. The UV-vis. spectra of Korean knotweed extracts in various pH values showed bathochromic shift under alkaline condition, and their peaks disappeared after 5 hours exposure.

  • The imidization effect of a poly (amic acid) dope solution on membrane formation has been investigated. Poly (amic acid) solution in S-methyl-2-pyrrolidione hs been thermally imidized at $120^{\circ}C$ with different curing time and its degree of imidization was determined by infrared spectroscopy. The solution properties have been studied as a function of concentration and curing time by dynamic light scattering. The quality of a solvent was changed from good to poor with increasing imidization of poly(amic acid). The reduced polymer-solvent interaction diminishes the membrane formation time. The morphology of a membrane was able to be controlled by the characteristics of dope solution.

  • There are many studies to create realistic paint effects and the research area still has attracted attention in these days. However, the consideration for the characteristics of the real paint effects from the point of viewers is not enough. In this paper, we extract the important paint features and survey the importance values. Based on the survey results, we suggest a new paint system. The paint system utilizes the paint simulation that reflects viscoelasticity and mixing suggested by You et al. (2013) and proposes the paint rendering method that represents the details of a paint, a solvent, and pigments. We survey the quality of our results and prove that our paint system is superior to the previous studies.

  • In this paper, the effects of the MWCNTs on the PTC characteristics of the conventional CB/polymer nanocomposites were investigated. For the uniform dispersion of the MWCNTs in the polymer matrix., nitricacid-treated MWCNTs were dispersed with the dissolved HOPE in the solvent. After evaporating solvent, the dried master batches in the oven were melt blended mixed with CB and HDPE to obtain the PTC materials. The initial resistivity of PTC materials decreased and the PTC intensity increased with the MWCNTs. During three repeated heating and cooling cycles, the PTC materials containing MWCNTs showed a great reproducibility due to the conductive network structures of CB particles and MWCNTs.

  • Commonly used oil-based polymer resin has environmental and safety issues. Many researches for replacing the harmful solvent-borne resins to water-borne resins have been investigated to purify harmful environmental resources and follow the export and import of hazardous materials regulations. In this research, ultrasonic spray coatings of aqueous polymer resin were studied to fabricate thin insulating layer (${\sim}{\mu}m$) on the rectangular copper wire. It needs to have appropriate wettability between resin and substrate during the ultrasonic spray coating process to coat aqueous polymer uniformly. Furthermore, stabilities of coating solution and fabricating process are required to form thin insulating layer on the substrate. In here, physical characteristics such as viscosity of 6 types of commercial polymer dispersions and emersions were analyzed to confirm compatibility for ultrasonic spray coating process. These resins were dissolved in isopropyl alcohol, used for true solvent, and were diluted with ethanol, utilized for diluent. Also, solubilities, dispersion characteristics, and viscosities of these diluted polymer resin solutions were confirmed. Dispersion characteristic and viscosity of coating solution affects jetting of ultrasonic spray coating and these jetting characteristics influence morphologies of insulating layer. In conclusion, we have known that aqueous polymer solution should have outstanding dispersion characteristic and certain range of viscosity to fabricate thin polymer insulating layer uniformly with ultrasonic spray coating.

  • In this paper, the rheological behaviors and non-Newtonian characteristics of maltenes which is effected by hydrocarbon solvent type, solvent mixing ratio, temperature and shear rate was measured and compared with oil sands bitumen. Maltenes was made by SDA (solvent deasphalting) method from oil sands bitumen. Oil sands bitumen had apparent viscosities of $800{\sim}150000mPa{\cdot}s$ measured at a shear rate of $50sec^{-1}$ in the range of $25{\sim}85^{\circ}C$ and showed yield stress of 0.1~0.3 Pa at the temperatures below $35^{\circ}C$. All the oil sands bitumen and maltenes exhibited a shear-thinning, i.e. pseudoplastic behavior and apparent viscosity of maltenes decreased with decreasing carbon numbers of hydrocarbon solvent. The change in apparent viscosity with temperature could be described by the simple Guzman-Andrade equation, and maltene viscosities were decreased as the mixing ratio of n-pentane was raised. Also, all maltenes approached to Newtonian fluid as temperature were increased. the degree of pseudoplasticity was enhanced with decreasing carbon number of solvent.

  • 17 kinds of fire resistant paint which are currently used were painted on the MDF, to find flame resistance performance and smoking characteristics according to principal ingredient and characteristics of fire resistant paint. 45 degree combustion test and smoke density test were conducted to investigate the flame resistance performance and smoking characteristics. According to the 45 degree combustion test, acrylic resin type fire resistant paint showed the most excellent fire resistance performance. And the water soluble fire resistant paint showed better fire resistance performance compare to the solvent soluble paints. Also gloss paint showed better fire resistance performance than the flat paint. Based on the smoke density test, the smoke generation of fire resistant treated specimen of acrylic resin type was least. And the water soluble fire resistant paint generate little smoke than solvent soluble fire resistant paint.

  • Effect of solvents on physical characteristics and release characteristics of monolithic acetaminophen (APAP) hydroxypropylmethylcellulose (HPMC) matrix granules and tablets were examined. Various types and amounts of solvents were employed for granulation and coating. APAP and other excipients were mixed and were then wet-granulated in a high-speed mixer. The dried granules were then directly compressed and film-coated with low viscosity grade HPMC. As the amount of water increased, the size of granules also increased, showing more spherical and regular shape. However, manufacturing problems such as capping and lamination in tableting occurred when water was used alone as a granulating solvent. The physical properties of HPMC matrix granules were not affected by the batch size. The initial release rate as well as the amount of APAP dissolved had a tendency to decrease as the water level increased. Addition of nonaqueous solvent like ethanol to water resulted in good physical properties of granules. When compared to water/ethanol as a coating solvent, the release rate of film-coated HPMC matrix tablets was more sensitive to the conditions of coating and drying in methylene chloride/ethanol. Most of all, monolithic HPMC matrix tablet when granulated in ethanol/water showed dual release with about $50\%$ drug release immediately within few minutes followed by extended release. It was evident that the type and amount of solvents (mainly water and ethanol) were very important for wet granulation and film-coating of monolithic HPMC matrix tablet, because the plastic deforming and fragmenting properties of material were changed by the different strengths of the different solvents.
