Local structural alignment and classification of TIM barrel domains

  • TIM barrel domain is widely studied since it is one of most common structure and mediates diverse function maintaining overall structure. TIM barrel domain's function is determined by local structural environment at the C-terminal end of barrel structure. We classified TIM barrel domains by local structural alignment tool, LSHEBA, to understand characteristics of TIM barrel domain's functionalvariation. TIM barrel domains classified as the same cluster share common structure, function and ligands. Over 80% of TIM barrels in clusters share exactly the same catalytic function. Comparing clustering result with that of SCOP, we found that it's important to know local structural environment of TIM barrel domains rather than overallstructure to understand specific structural detail of TIM barrel function. Non TIM barrel domains were associated to make different domain combination to form a different function. The relationship between domain combination, we suggested expected evolutional history. We finally analyzed the characteristics of amino acids around ligand interface.

Determinants of Journals on the Fields of Technology, Innovation and Management (TIM) in China - An Analysis of Jishu Jingji (중국 기술혁신관리(TIM) 분야의 학술지 속성 결정요인 - 기술경제(技術經濟)지 분석을 중심으로)

  • This is an analysis of three hypotheses in the fields of Technology, Innovation, and Management (TIM) analyzing the journal of Jishu Jingji (Technology Economics) which is published by the Chinese Society of Techno-economics. The Jishu Jingji journal is similar to other Chinese journals in TIM as follows: First, it's short in length. Second, there are a few references and foreign references can be counted with fingers of one hand. Third, the journal's scope is similar to others in TIM such as technolog-firm-industry. The differences are as follows: First, they have more general topics on the firm and the economy than other journals in TIM. Second, technologies covered are those of existing industries and infrastructure rather than emerging technologies and industries. Third, editors rarely submit papers to the journal. Finally, the expertise of the editors is diverse which is similar to the scope of the journal. First proposed hypothesis on journals in TIM is that journals represent country specific characteristics over field specificities, and this view is widely accepted in China. Second hypothesis is that editors are representatives of authors, but this hypothesis is rejected, at least in this journal. Third hypothesis is that the composition of editors reflects the scope of journals, and this hypothesis is generally accepted.

Post-modern Characteristics Expressed on Characters' Make-up Coordination of Fantasy Movies - Focused on the works of Tim Burton - (판타지 영화의 캐릭터 분장 코디네이션에 나타난 포스트모던 특성 - Tim Burton 감독의 작품을 중심으로 -)

  • The purpose of this paper is to study characters' make-up coordination that changes the narrative of the fantasy movies to a visual fantasy, especially it focuses on the post-modern features from the works of Tim Burton, a post-modernist. The contents of the study are, firstly, studying post-modernism that influenced the works of Tim Burton, secondly, researching (1988), (1989), (1990), (1992), (2003) and (2005) and their main characters' make-up design. Thirdly, analyzing the otherness and plural-code that are the post-modern characteristics expressed on characters' make-up coordination of fantasy movies. The otherness means the division of the middle and the surroundings and the rise of the outsiders. Fantasy characters that scares off human such as ghosts, aliens, apes, kidults, mutations, man-made men are in the middle. The plural-code takes the symbolic and pluralistic dimension in to the movie, mixes the sign system, and which natural and supernatural system cross over. In the movies, Beetle Juice who was both ghost and devil expresses life and death, Bat man, Cat woman, Penguin man expresses human and animal, and Edward means human and inhuman. Willy Wonka's makeup makes him look younger, but his grown-up-like clothes show doubleness. For that matter, make-up coordination is the mirror of reflection of period and human being's inner life.

The Ethnicity and National Identity among Transmigrant: The Acehnese Community in Jakarta (이주민 집단의 종족과 국가에 대한 인식: 자카르타의 아쩨인 공동체 사례연구)

  • This thesis aims to analyze the political, social, and cultural activities of the Acehnese ethnic group living in Jakarta, Indonesia. Based on analysis, this thesis examines how their ethnicity and national identity have been formed and expressed. For this purpose, this study deals with Taman Iskandar Muda (hereinafter referred to as TIM), a group of Acehnese transmigrants living in Jakarta. The immigration of the Acehnese to Jakarta started in the 1950s and the number of Acehnese people living in Jakarta persently amounts to 100,000. TIM, which was organized by the first generational of immigrants, functions to group Acehnese immigrants of various generations and class. Forum Keprihatinan Untuk Aceh(hereinafter referred to as Forka), an organization designed to solve the political problems of TIM, undertook various activities to maintain the peace of Aceh as the representative of TIM. Through those activities, TIM and Forka were able to confirm the feeling of homogeneity among the Acehnese who were living in their hometown and also strengthen their identity within the organizations. However, the fact that TIM and Forka put their focus on humanitarian activities paradoxically shows the political limitations that they sustain. TIM and Forka take care not to make their humanitarian activities seem as if they intend to openly strengthen their Acehnese identity and deny their Indonesian one. These political characteristics of Forka's identity are commonly found in groups that practice long-distance nationalism, as transmigrants in diaspora circumstances do. In the organization of TIM, there exists the menasah, which is a space where discussions of the ethnicity and the nation are practiced. As it is the space for local exchange, menasah reveals the identity of TIM through educational/social activities and public services. Menasah functions as the public arena where people practice ethnic identity on the basis of national integration. As a minority ethnic group living in Jakarta and its neighborhood, they are accustomed to double and selective political activities, social activities, and cultural practices. In order to adapt themselves to the double circumstance that they are faced with, they should live extemporaneously, and this life may be the fate that minority ethnic and transmigrants should endure.

Study on Improvement of Heat Dissipation Characteristics of TIM Material Using Radiant Energy (복사에너지를 이용한 TIM소재의 방열 특성 향상을 위한 연구)

  • The aim of this study is to quantitatively demonstrate the possibility of heat transfer by thermal radiation by comparing heat transfer by conventional heat transfer and radiation by radiation. 1) The heat transfer was measured by using filler of TIM material with low thermal conductivity (CuS). As a result, heat transfer was easier than ceramic with high thermal conductivity ($Al_2O_3$ and $Si_3N_4$). 2) The reason for this is thought to be that the infrared wave due to radiation of the air diaphragm has moved easily. 3) From the above results, the heat dissipation of the TIM material indicates the possibility of heat transfer by thermal radiation.

  • Purpose: Long-life housing causes unavoidable cost increase while providing higher durability, flexibility, and repair easiness compare to those of normal apartment. The effectiveness should be evaluated considering the level of passing mandatory Long-life housing Certification System when supplying specific size of apartment complex. Thus, it is essential to identify the estimated costs and the obtainable grade by applying the optional element technologies selectively during the design phase. This study aimed to suggest the technology influence matrix(TIM) to support decision-making of element technologies in planning stage of long-life housing. Method: The technology influence matrix was established based on the property information about applicable element technologies for long-life housing such as construction methods, interface types, cost data, and certification-related characteristics. The usefulness of TIM was verified through case study, in which TIM was applied to the exclusive housing unit and the influences from four areas of quantity, cost, certification, and schedule were identified and calculated. Result: TIMs covering four areas representing the essential planning factors were developed, and are expected to contribute to sound decision-making in planning long-life housing.

  • To investigate characteristics and micro-explosion of single-droplets of emulsified fuel, water is mixed with diesel oil by using ultrasonic energy fuel feeding system. The fuel characteristics is analysed through H-NMR spectrum and micro-explosion phenomena of the emulsified fuel is also investigated. The life times of droplets of conventional diesel fuel, ultrasonic energy added diesel fuel and emulsified fuel we obtained additionally. According to this study, the micro-explosion phenomena of single-droplets happen in atmospheric pressure condition, a curve form of emulsified fuel's life tim is different from diesel fuel's one and the change of chemical structures is a cause of ultrasonic-energy-added diesel fuel effect.

  • Thermal management becomes a key technology as the power density of high performance and high density devices increases. Conventional heat sink or TIM methods will be limited to resolve thermal problems of next-generation IC devices. Recently, to increase heat flux through high powered IC devices liquid cooling system has been actively studied. In this study a chip-level liquid cooling system with TSV and microchannel was fabricated on Si wafer using DRIE process and analyzed the cooling characteristics. Three different TSV shapes were fabricated and the effect of TSV shapes was analyzed. The shape of liquid flowing through microchannel was observed by fluorescence microscope. The temperature differential of liquid cooling system was measured by IR microscope from RT to $300^{\circ}C$.

  • The heat flow characteristics of a high-power optical semiconductor source have been analyzed using a 3D CFD commercial tool, and the thermal resistance values for each of the layers revealed the places for thermal bottlenecks to be improved. As the heat source of a LD (Laser Diode) has a small volume and a narrow surface, the effective thermal cross-sectional area near it is also quite small. It was possible to expand the cross-sectional area effectively by using graphene layers on the TIM (Thermal Interface Material) layers of a LD chip. The effective values of heat resistance for the layers are compared to confirm the improvement effect of the graphene layers before and after, which can be considered to expand the thermal cross section of the heat transfer path.

  • In the trend of the multi-functionalization, miniaturization, and increased power output trends of flexible and stretchable electronic devices, the development of materials or structures with superior heat transfer characteristics has become a pressing issue. Traditional thermal interface materials (TIM) fail to meet the heat dissipation requirements of flexible and stretchable electronic devices, which must endure rapid bending, twisting, and stretching. To address this challenge, there is a demand for the development of TIM that simultaneously possesses high thermal conductivity and stretchability. This paper examines the research trends of liquid metal, carbon, and ceramic-based stretchable thermal interface materials and explores effective strategies for enhancing their thermal and mechanical properties.
