  • This study is intended to forecast changes in Ubiquitous technology-based residential environment since the digital revolution so as to suggest the direction of furniture design in the near future. Among Ubiquitous technologies, the intelligent digital technology applied to a residential environment is defined as "Smart Digital Technology." Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy named the residential environment where such technology is applied "Smart Home." Smart Home is strategically creating intelligent residential environment where interactivity is made between human, furniture and residential environment, based on home automation, home network and intelligent sensor technology. Smart furniture is based on strategic characteristics of smart home. Its convergence with IT equipments is being made. Largely, smart furniture has three characteristics as below: First, smart furniture provides users with information on home management, health management, education and fashion. not just functioning as storage space. Second, smart furniture that is a new lifestyle pattern will suggest a new aesthetic standard based on unsettled shapes and innovative structure. Finally, it gives convenience to users intelligently. Namely, smart furniture, "intelligent informative furniture", will be suggested as a new paradigm.

  • The supply of digital homes has been increasing but digital home services which meet consumer needs under the various conditions have not identified. The purpose of the study was to investigate the residents' characteristics living in digital apartments with comparison of their innovativeness toward technology. Residents who lived in two apartment complexes equipped with fundamental digital home services(Level 1 service) were selected to conduct the survey. A total of 500 responses were used for data analyses. Responses were classified into three groups based on their innovativeness toward technology for data analyses. The results of the study showed that residents' socio-demographic and housing related characteristics differed according to their acceptance trait of new technology. Early adopters and early majority were younger, higher income, and more educated than late adopters. Also, they were more likely to be renters and consider installation of digital home services before they moved in. Respondents who had higher innovativeness tended to experience more positive life changes after using digital home services and possessed more and many digital appliances. Remote control and remote meter reading service were the most preferable features among digital home services without no differences in three groups.

  • Purpose: This study examined the characteristics of in-home injuries of children in low-income families and sought to identify the factors affecting parental in-home injury prevention practices. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive survey design was applied, using questionnaires on in-home injury characteristics in children, parental in-home injury prevention practices, parental perceptions and knowledge on childhood injuries, and the Parental Stress Index. We queried 169 parents of children less than 5years of age who were enrolled in Nutrition Plus Projects at community health centers. Results: Overall, 92.7% of children had experienced in-home injuries, with sliding crashes and bumping injuries as the most frequent type of injury. The recovery rate with a scar after injury was 26.3%. Parental practices for in-home injury prevention were higher according parental age, educational status, and previous learning experiences regarding in-home safety and injury prevention. The two most significant factors affecting parental in-home injury prevention practices were age and parental perception of childhood injuries as being controllable and preventable. Conclusions: Considering the high risk of in-home childhood injuries in low-income families, safety education and the promotion of injury prevention practices for parents are recommended. The strategy to enhance the parental perception on preventing childhood injuries needs to be addressed.

  • The purposes of this study were to estimate the effect of related factors such as cultural values and individual characteristics to consumer attitude, and furthermore to estimate the effect of consumer attitude and related factors such as price perception and individual characteristics to consumption behavior(expenditure) of food away from home. To do this, the data was collected from college students and a 2 step approach by using LIMDEP program was applied to estimate the structural equation model. The results of this study were as follows: 1) Consumer attitude toward food away from home was found to be significantly influenced by some cultural values such as health, sensibility, socially responsible consumption and religion, and individual characteristics such as sex and pocket money. If they perceived more positively about the value of health, sensibility and religion, they would be likely to have more positive attitude, while they perceived more negatively about the value of socially responsible consumption, they would be likely to have more negative attitude. In addition, if they were females and had much more pocket money, they would be more likely to have more positive attitude. 2) Expenditure of food away from home was found to be significantly influenced by age and pocket money, while consumer attitude did not have a significant impact on expenditure of food away from home at the second stage in the structural equation model. It might imply that consumption behavior of food away from home for college students would be more constrained by individual characteristics such as sex and economic capital.

  • Recently, in-home shopping channel has become a popular shopping channel. This study develops and tests a model of the share and variety of in-home shopping channel. We explore the effects of demographic characteristics and shopping behavior characteristics to the share and variety of in-home shopping channel. As a research methodology, we choose the simultaneous equation model with selectivity to consider both sample selection and effects between dependent variables. The result of study can be summarized as follows. First, there are no effects between the share and variety of in-home shopping channel. Second, the share of in-home shopping channel decreases when consumers visit department store more than discount store. Third, the demographic characteristics and the shopping behavior characteristics don't affect the variety of in-home shopping channel. Some managerial implications for manufacturers and distributors are discussed.

  • This study intended to change the environment of a classroom in the existing child care center by applying the home environmental characteristics. The progress of environmental improvement for this study was conducted throughout the three stages. First, analyze the problems of existing child care center, which reflect the environmental characteristics and user opinions of the environment. Second, based on the analysis of the problems of the existing classroom, the classroom is improved by applying the environmental characteristics of the home. Third, compare the effect of improving the environmental characteristics of the home. The results of the study are as follows. First, the classroom was surveyed with a long rectangular space structure and was examined as a wide area when compared with the legal standards of $4.32m^2$ per child. Second, the emphasis is to complement the defects of the spatial structure and seek changes to the comfort environment, such as the proper stimuli and alterations to the atmosphere. Third, the effectiveness of the environmental improvement was assessed by comparing the results before and after the improvement of the environment. In terms of child environmental demands, movement and movement have increased. integrated configurations of the activity areas showed increased functionality, and overall, it was evaluated as a whole in terms of the atmosphere and the placeness.
