  • In this study, I examine what is called character. It is to establish what constitutes a relationship between life, culture, and education. In addition, I try to explore the possibility of anthropology of education as an academic basis for character education by using the way of '문 질빈빈(文質彬彬)'. As a result of the study, 'character' in terms of '문(culturality)' aspect implies the qualities, the nature, the disposition, and the meaning of virtue. A 'character education' can be seen in school education as a moral consideration, considering the social context, such as the ability to live harmoniously. In terms of '질(naturality)', I will look at both the innate aspect of the character and the acquired aspect through the 'character' which is the essence of character. Character is the concept of both parties, and if it is influenced by an external environment, one can seek better ways to improve the chances of improvement through education. Furthermore, the role of education is inevitably required in order to achieve the goal of 'lesser human being' to 'better human being'. Home and school education can have a positive impact on the character. An honest mind about humanity among family members is the right character. The importance of humanity is considered as a value to be recognized and protected in our society because the logic that it protects the family by character and helps to maintain the social order influences to the legal culture tradition of the modern. Therefore, the academic approach through anthropology of education has sufficient value of trial study for exploring the relationship between character, education, and culture for teachers and learners, and is appropriate for providing an academic foundation.

To conduct this study, the curriculum revision in 2009 was analyzed by the causal mapping method. One after another, the creativity character education and earth system education were analyzed by the same method. Through as mentioned above, the key words which have relating concepts each other were picked out. Lastly, the key words were connected and compounded for the earth science lesson model based on the creativity character education. The model indicates that the earth science lesson based on the creativity character education requires the reconstructs of the processing and contents of the lesson. In other words, the teaching/learning must be progressed as corresponding between scientific facts and mental recognition, scientific concepts and compounding thinking skill, scientific laws and reconstructing thinking skill. In contents were reconstructed as relating to knowledge, creativity, characters and guidance counseling. The results of this study suggested the earth science lesson model based on the creativity character education needs developing and applying teaching/learning materials and managing discussing and cooperative learning.

  • Recently, the development of electronic teaching materials and the demand of digital learners have led the needs on the education contents that replace learning from character information and the change of an information design method for this. Chinese character education in the traditional schooling mainly focuses on writing and memorization (semantic memory). This way that the stories do not exist has brought the learners' recognition that Chinese character is difficult to learn. Meanwhile, for a language study such as English, cross-media development between printed materials and audio-visual materials has been actively introduced. The method that extends episode memories along with memorization through a story is widely used. Therefore, this content suggests a prototype, which is broken away from an existing way of learning Chinese character that mainly focuses on writing, one sided instruction and information cramming. This makes learners learn through a story from printed materials and animation. Furthermore, it suggests a method that extends episode memories through Chinese education contents based on IoT explaining the principle of Chinese character by combining IT technology (information and communications, IoT) and education contents on block toys.

  • In this paper, we propose the importance of character education in nursing curriculum. It is quite difficult to define what character is. It is solely because a person's character is very abstract yet comprehensive at the same time. Nevertheless, the East defines character as someone's personality that he or she is naturally born with. Someone's character contains two elements: what he or she was born with, a nature, and how the person has and is to become. The nature is difficult to change through education since one is born with such disposition. However, another half of one's character can be educated to be reformed and developed in the right manner. And this specific education is called character education. Today in Korea, education to cultivate one's character has become a cause celebre, especially when evaluating a nursing department's certification. To be a good nurse, one must not only be skillful but also has the ability to help others or make ethical and clinical judgments. Yet, most nursing departments in Korea out there are overwhelmingly focused on the curriculum related to obtaining licenses and to become a registered nurse. Thus, this is to suggest alleviating such a stress and expanding the curriculum for character education.

  • ICT is still lacking relevant studies and efforts even though it needs to be accompanied by character education. Against this backdrop, this study has developed and operated an education program that combines ICT with character education and conducted surveys on its accomplishments. The research findings are as follows. The analysis of theme-based correlations has revealed that individual's character has not significantly affected character for others and global character and that building character for others have made a significant impact on establishing global character with a high level of correlations. Therefore, I have found that a program involving a group of people together such as team-based task has a positive effect on fostering problem-solving talents with global leadership. It is hard to obtain tangible results in character education in a short period of time but I would like to contribute to laying the foundation for cultivating and fostering talents equipped with global leadership while respecting oneself and caring for others in everyday life through these classes. There is a study on convergence of character education and different subjects, left behind of this study.

  • The purpose of this study was to analysis how the elements of character are reflected in the 3rd and 4th grade elementary mathematics textbooks based on the 2009 revised curriculum. This study focused on the elements of character in the 3rd and 4th grade mathematics textbooks. The researchers analyzed the elements of character in the students' mathematics textbooks and teacher's guide books. In particular, they analyzed how those elements of character are reflected in those books. Findings of this study are as follows. First of all, the elements of character were founded in the most of units on the 3rd and 4th grade mathematics textbooks, but they were biased to the specific elements of character. Second, the resources using related with character vary in the textbooks. As methods of character education, connections of elements of character with mathematical concepts, broader view of the world, or problem solving are appeared. From the results of the research, we suggest the followings. We need to set the teacher's roles in character education. Mathematics textbooks should include various elements of character for effective character education. In addition to development of quality materials for character education in mathematics education, teacher education programs should include character education in mathematics education.

  • This paper suggests that the meaning and the direction of character education should be understood and approached from a point of view which human formation is regarded as the essence of education. The best way of approach to the character education with this point of view could start from the teachers' character, because teachers are key actors for character formation of students. This study therefore places strong emphasis on the importance of teachers' character and suggesting liberal education, as a key solution, its aim is raising and developing the whole human being. The purpose of this study is to explore the possibility of liberal teacher education. With this purpose of study, the author argues the moral dimension of teaching and the importance of the teachers' role as a character builder in ch.II. In ch.III, the present state of teachers' character education is examined and is argued the necessity of liberal perspective for teacher education to stress the character formation of teachers. The liberal teacher education means that the teacher education is integrated into the quality of liberal education which emphasizes the whole human formation, transformation of personality and critical reflection for human formation.
