  • A modified low-Reynolds-number Reynolds stress model is developed for the calculation of drag-reducing turbulent flows induced by polymer injection. The results without polymer injection are compared with the results of direct numerical simulation to ensure the validity of the basic model. In case of drag reduction, profiles of mean velocity and Reynolds stress components, in two-dimensional channel flow, obtained with a proper value of viscosity ratio are presented and discussed. Computed mean velocity profile is in very good agreement with experimental data. And, the qualitative behavior of Reynolds stress components with the viscosity ratio is also reasonable.

  • We present an electrical particle velocity profiler using particle transit time across uneven inter-gap electrodes. We measure both the particle position and velocity from the voltage signals generated by the particles passing across sensing electrodes, thus obtaining the velocity profile of the particles in a microfluidic channel. In the experimental study, we use polystyrene microparticles to characterize the performance of the electrical particle velocity profiler. The particle velocity profile is measured with the uncertainty of 5.44%, which is equivalent to the uncertainty of 5% in the previous optical method. We also experimentally demonstrate the capability of the present method for in-channel clogging detection. Compared to the previous optical methods, the present electrical particle velocity profiler offers the simpler structure, the cheaper cost, and the higher integrability to micro-biofluidic systems.

  • In this paper, we implemented a ray-tracing simulator with a ray-launching technique and generated the propagation path of each ray in an multiple-wall indoor environment. In this simulator, we adopted two dimension ray-tracing techniques considering the reflection and penetration were dominant propagation factor in the indoor channel. From the result, we verified that this ray-tracing simulator shows the similar pattern and delay distribution with the experiment results of the previous research.

  • In this paper, it was investigated the guided field intensity distribution of the channel in the silver & potassium ion-exchange glass-waveguide. The guided field intensity distribution analysis of ion-exchange glass-waveguide was based on the combination of the WKB dispersion relationship method with a Gaussian distribution function of refractive index profile and the Field Shadow method to the modeling of the channel waveguide. As the results of the channel waveguide modeling, it was represented 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional field distribution of ion-exchange glass waveguide.

  • A numerical analysis was performed for the flow field in the vertical channels consist of dummy cards and active cards to define the hydrodynamic role of dummy card which is often installed in electronic equipment between active cards to control the cooling air distribution. For a given velocity profile at the inlet and a pressure-based boundary condition at the outlet of the computation domain, the percentage of the flow rate distribution through active channel and dummy channel formed by an active card and dummy card, respectively, were investigated. As a result of present analysis, the pecentage of flow rate through active channel increases quadraticaly with the increase of the ratio of the height of barrier to the width of the dummy channel.

  • Recently, for satisfying many application demands such as coding delay, computing power, transporting channel characteristic, etc, many profiles are supported in video coding standards. Therefore, in transcoding between same standards or between other standards, the functional difference of profiles supported by application occur many problems. In this paper, transcoding MPEG-2 main profile to H.264/AVC baseline profile which has restriction in the number of reference frame is focused. In this case, the bidirectional prediction supported in MPEG-2 main profile is not supported in H.264/AVC baseline profile. Also, in the restriction of reference frame, motion vectors in the MPEG-2 decoder as predictor should be adjusted. In this paper, the proposed algorithm is based on the characteristic of which motion. vector is uniform according to the distance from reference frame. The adaptive search techniques through the determination of the uniformity extremely reduce the computational complexity.

  • In this paper, we propose the channel sounding scheme which is made for ideal communication between some application as well as the short distance of high speed data transmission in MIMO-OFDM system for Wireless PAN. This method is able to perceive the duration of the impulse response through the delaying of power delay profile, modeled a power delay profile which has an attenuate characteristic, and obtained the coefficient of channel response by ML (maximum likelihood). Through the amplitudes, phases and delays associated with each multipath component which were acquired from this channel sounding scheme, we can describe the wave propagation characteristics of channels between the transmitter and receiver so that the receiver could enhance not only the reliability but also the ability of communication link. Multi agent system models can be used to analyze the path of the system within any time frame. Further, parameter values can be perturbed to examine how the path of the system changes in response to exogenous shocks.

  • In this paper, we consider an OFDM receiver algorithm design for IEEE 802.11a/p system, which targeting large coverage area while keeping the transmission format unchanged. Particularly, taking into account the inter-symbol interference(ISI) and inter-carrier interference(ICI) that can be induced with large RMS delay spread, we employ channel shortening time-domain equalizer(TEQ) and evaluate the receiver performance in terms of SINR and packet error rate(PER). The preamble defined in IEEE802.11a/p is used to estimated the initial equalizer tap coefficients. Primary purpose of the paper is to give an answer to the question, though partially, whether or not 16-QAM constellation can be used in none line of sight environment at the boundary of a large coverage area. To this end, we first analyze the required TEQ parameters for the target channel environment and then perform simulation for PER performance evaluation in a generic frequency selective fading channel with exponential power-delay profile.

  • We used video-rate Confocal Laser Scanning Microscopy (CLSM) to observe the motion of blood cells in a micro-channel. Video-rate CLSM allowed us to acquire images at the rate of 30 frames per second. The acquired images were used to perform Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV), thus providing the velocity profile of the blood in a micro-channel. While previous confocal microscopy-assisted PIV required exogenous micro/nano particles as the tracing particles, we employed blood cells as tracing particles for the CLSM in the reflection mode, which uses light back-scattered from the sample. The blood flow at various depths of the micro-channel was observed by adjusting the image plane of the microscope. The velocity profile at different depths of the channel was measured. The confocal micro-PIV technique used in the study was able to measure blood velocity up to a few hundreds ${\mu}m/sec$, equivalent to the blood velocity in the capillaries of a live animal. It is expected that the technique presented can be applied for in vivo blood flow measurement in the capillaries of live animals.
