  • The distribution patterns of the benthic macrofauna of Han Estuary and Kyonggi Bay and the controlling environmental factors were studied at twenty-five stations in spring and fall of 1989. As a result, four biological groups were established as follows : Crassostrea gigas-Balanus reticulatus (Group I), Heteromastus filiformis-Mediomastus californiensis-Lumbrineris spp. -Sternaspis scutata-Tharyx sp. 1-Diopatra bilobata (Group II-A), Haustoriids-Phoxocephalids-Moerella rutila (Group II-B) and Nephtys chemulpoensis (Group II-C in March) and indistinctive group which was composed of common species (II-C in September). Results of the habitat analysis revealed that most of the dominant species showed narrow ranges of habitat niche in March and relatively wide ranges in September. Based on multiple discriminant analysis, the critical environmental factors governing their distributions are salinity in the regions of Yomha and Sokmo Channel in Han Estuary and sediment types in Kyonggi Bay. Also, sediment instability during the rainy season due to run-off was assumed to play a major role in the species composition of the benthic communities and their distribution in the study area.

  • With characteristics of river continuum, stream ecosystems have diverse components and environments from upstream channel to estuarine area. Therefore, the habitat requirements and composition of conservative object should be well understood before applying any improvement measure. In this paper, the causes of stream habitat changes were first illustrated with the categories and principles of habitat restoration methods. The structural restoration techniques of fish habitat improvement utilized by the authors or one three-year research project starting at 1990 were then presented. Through the introductions on the project background, planning guidelines, structure design, and ecological evaluation, this paper tried to provide some effective examples of stream restoration practices that ecological expert was invited for cooperation and advising.

  • A preliminary study of the heterogeneity effect of spent P% fuel in CANDU was made using a reduced spent PWR fuel data base. The instantaneous core simulation has shown that the refueling ripple in the CANDU reactor is large if the spent PWR fuel is directly used. But the fuel heterogeneity effect can be reduced appreciably by blending spent PWR fuel with a small amount of fresh UO$_2$. The refueling simulation has shown that the operating margins of 6.0% and 8.7% are achievable for the peak channel and bundle powers, respectively, with the blended fuel.

  • The 3 ton/day-scale pilot plant consists of compressor, feed channel, fixed bed type gasification & melting furnace, quench scrubber, demister, flare stack and gas engine. Syngas composition of gasification using the 35.50(waste I), 4.34%(wasteII) moisture-containing solid waste showed waste I CO 25-35%, 20-40% hydrogen, waste II 25-35%, 20-30% hydrogen. Gasification melting furnace was operated $1,500{\sim}1,600^{\cdot}C$. Gas engine was generated $35{\sim}40$ kW as waste gasification syngas.

  • In the 21st century, it may be possible to offer comprehensive service by integrating all communication media under the development of digital technology without the classification of broadcasting and communication. In addition, it will be begun to perform HDTV broadcasting by focusing on the Metropolitan area in 2001yr and will permit over 100 channels for satellite communication, thus multi-channel TV broadcasting age has come in Korea. Therefore, this study is to identify the future environment of TV broadcasting and service area in ISDB age and to present new interactive type publication satellite TV transmission system, which provides customizing type digital screen book publication by analyzing satellite broadcasting technology to create Korean cultural area around the Korean peninsula.

  • This work presents a simplified efficient blind detection algorithm for orthogonal space-time codes(OSTBC). First, the proposed decoder exploits a proper decomposition approach of the upper triangular matrix R, which resulted from Cholesky-factorization of the composition channel matrix, to form an easy-to-solve blind detection equation. Secondly, in order to avoid suffering from the high computational load, the proposed decoder applies a sub-optimal QR-based decoder. Computer simulation results verify that the proposed decoder allows to significantly reduce computational complexity while still satisfying the bit-error-rate(BER) performance.

  • Short channel Nonvolatile EEPROM memory devices were fabricated to CMOS 1M bit design rule, and reviews the characteristics and applications of SNOSFET. Application of SNOS field effect transistors have been proposed for both logic circuits and nonvolatile memory arrays, and operating characteristics with write and erase were investigated. As a results, memory window size of four terminal devices and two terminal devices was established low conductance stage and high conductance state, which was operated in “1” state and “0”state with write and erase respectively. And the operating characteristics of unit cell in matrix array were investigated with implementing the composition method of four and two terminal nonvolatile memory cells. It was shown that four terminal 2${\times}$2 matrix array was operated bipolar, and two termineal 2${\times}$2 matrix array was operated unipolar.

  • Recently, Silicon Germanium (SiGe) alloys have been received considerable attention for their great potentials in advanced electronic and optoelectronic devices. Especially, microcrystalline SiGe is a good channel material for thin film transistor due to its advantages such as narrow and variable band gap and process compatibility with Si based integrated circuits. In this work, microcrystalline silicon-germanium films (${\mu}c$-SiGe) were deposited by DC/RF magnetron co-sputtering method using Si and Ge target on Corning glass substrates. The film composition was controlled by changing DC and RF powers applied to each target. The substrate temperatures were changed from $100^{\circ}C$ to $450^{\circ}C$. The microstructure of the thin films was analyzed by x-ray diffraction (XRD) and Raman spectroscopy. The analysis results showed that the crystallinity of the films enhances with increasing Ge mole fraction. Also, crystallization temperature was reduced to $300^{\circ}C$ with $H_2$ dilution. Hall measurements indicated that the electrical properties were improved by Ge alloying.

  • To increase output power of a He-Ne laser we propose to use the capacitive rf discharge and implement four channel structure. Most of experiments were carried out with a single laser tube from this structure to optimize the output mirror transmission, pressure and composition of the mixture. A laser tube of 2.8 mm inner diameter and 50 cm discharge length can give an output power of above 5.5 mW at 3.39 ${\mu}m$. Four such tubes in "matrix" structure let us obtain 20 mW of output. Simplified models which can be used to evaluate the behavior of an equivalent electrical circuit with laser plasma and qualitative characteristics of output power of He-Ne laser were also described.

  • Highly ordered and perforated anodic aluminum oxide membranes were prepared by anodic oxidation and subsequent removal of the barrier layer. By using these homemade anodic aluminum oxide membranes as templates, metal selenide nanowires and nanotubes were synthesized. The structure and composition of these one-dimensional nanomaterials were studied by field emission scanning electron microscopy as well as transmission electron microscopy and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. The growth process of metal selenide inside anodic aluminum oxide channel was traced by investigating the series of samples using scanning electron microscopy after reacting for different times. Straight and dense copper selenide and silver selenide nanowires with a uniform diameter were successfully prepared. In case of nickel selenide, nanotubes were preferentially formed. Phase and crystallinity of the nanostructured materials were also investigated.
