Effect of feedback on PID controlled active structures under earthquake excitations

  • In this paper, different feedback control strategies are presented for active seismic control using proportional-integral-derivative (PID) type controllers. The parameters of PID controller are found by using an numerical algorithm considering time delay, maximum allowed control force and time domain analyses of shear buildings under different earthquake excitations. The numerical algorithm scans combinations of different controller parameters such as proportional gain ($K_p$), integral time ($T_i$) and derivative time ($T_d$) in order to minimize a defined response of the structure. The controllers for displacement, velocity and acceleration feedback control strategies are tuned for structures with active control at the first story and all stories. The performance and robustness of different feedback controls on time and frequency responses of structures are evaluated. All feedback controls are generally robust for the changing properties of the structure, but acceleration feedback control is the best one for efficiency and stability of control system.

옥트리 인코딩을 이용한 법선 벡터의 압축 (Compression of Normal Vectors using Octree Encoding)

  • Three-dimensional mesh models have been widely used in various applications such as simulations, animations, and e-catalogs. In such applications the normal vectors of mesh models are used mainly for shading and take up the major portion of data size and transmission time paper over networks. Therefore a variety of techniques have been developed to compress them efficiently. In this paper, we propose the MOEC (Modified Octree Encoding Compression) algorithm, which allow multi lever compression ratios for 3D mesh models. In the algorithm, a modified octree has nodes representing their own positions and supporting a depth of the tree so that the normal vectors are compressed up to levels where the shading is visually indistinguishable. This approach provides efficient in compressing normals with multi-level ratios, without additional encoding when changing in compression ratio is required.

  • 멀티미디어 정보 전송을 위해 RTP(Real-Time Transport Protocol)을 사용하며, 멀티미디어 정보 보안을 위해서는 RPT의 페이로드를 암호화해야 한다. RPT페이로드의 암호화를 위해서 암호화/복호화로 인한 지연이 멀티미디어 정보의 실시간 제약에 미치는 영향을 최소로 하면서 네트워크의 트래픽과 부하에 적응하며 암호화 알고리즘을 변경하기 위한 방법이 필요하다. 또한 멀티미디어 서비스 진행 중 서비스 이용을 중지한 사용자는 RPT 페이로드의 암호화 키를 알고 있기 때문에 페이로드를 보호하기 위해서는 암호화 키를 변경하기 위한 방법이 필요하다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 RPT 페이로드의 암호화를 위해, 암호화 알고리즘과 암호화 키를 변경하기 위한 SCPR(Security Control Protocol for RTP)를 설계하고 구현하였다.

  • This paper describes a method of human sensibility evaluation for pleasant and unpleasant environments. Conditions of the environment are room temperature and humidity. Changing the conditions, 10-channel EEG signals for 4 subjects are collected. Linear predictor coefficients of the recorded EEGs are extracted as the feature parameter of human sensibility. A neural network-based human sensibility estimation algorithm is developed. The developed algorithm showed good performance in the pleasantness evaluation. The neural network output produced accurate states of pleasantness sensibility. Subject-independent test showed similar results with subject-dependent test.

  • In this paper, for tracking and filtering seaway information which act as a control disturbance the adaptive notch filter which removes disturbance with fast convergence and stability without changing the value of gain parameter $\mu$ when statistical property of input signal varies rapidly is designed by improving conventional RMXMS(Recursive Maximum Mean Square) algorithm. Besides, in consideration of measurement noise of sensors in underwater vehicle, the system which removes the noise and the disturbance is suggested.

  • In this paper, a motion control algorithm is developed using a fuzzy control and the optimization of performance function, which makes a robot arm avoid an unexpected obstacle when the end-effector of the robot arm is moving to the goal position. During the motion, if there exists no obstacle, the end-effector of the robot arm moves along the pre-defined path. But if there exists an obstacle and close to the robot arm, the fuzzy motion controller is activated to adjust the path of the end-effector of the robot arm. Then, the robot arm takes the optimal posture for collision avoidance with the obstacle.   • In this paper, we present an effective covariance tracking algorithm based on adaptive size changing of tracking window. Recent researches have advocated the use of a covariance matrix of object image features for tracking objects instead of the conventional histogram object models used in popular algorithms. But, according to the general covariance tracking algorithm, it can not deal with the scale changes of the moving objects. The scale of the moving object often changes in various tracking environment and the tracking window(or object kernel) has to be adapted accordingly. In addition, the covariance matrix of moving objects should be adaptively updated considering of the tracking window size. We provide a solution to this problem by segmenting the moving object from the background pixels of the tracking window. Therefore, we can improve the tracking performance of the covariance tracking method. Our several simulations prove the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • We propose a new path planning method for autonomous mobile robots. To maximize the utility of mobile robots, the collision-free shortest path should be generated by on-line computation. In this paper, we develop an effective and practical method to generate a good solution by lower computation time. The initial path is obtained from skeleton graph by Dijkstra's algorithm. Then the path is improved by changing the graph and path dynamically. We apply the dynamic programming algorithm into the stage of improvement. Simulation results are presented to verify the performance of the proposed method.

  • In this paper, The Split Model Analysis Algorithm, which can generate the wideband speech signal from the spectral information of narrowband signal, is developed. The Split Model Analysis Algorithm deals with the separation of the $10^{th}$ order LPC model into five cascade-connected $2^{nd}$ order model. The use of the less complex $2^{nd}$ order models allows for the exclusion of the complicated nonlinear relationships between model parameters and all the poles of the LPC model. The relationships between the model parameters and its corresponding analog poles is proved and applied to each $2^{nd}$ order model. Application of Block On-Line Blind Source Separation to Acoustic Echo Cancellation

  • Blind speech separation (BSS) is well-known as a powerful technique for speech enhancement in many real world environments. In this paper, we propose a new application of BSS - acoustic echo cancellation (AEC) in a car environment. For this purpose, we develop a block-online BSS algorithm which provides robust separation than a batch version in changing environments with moving speakers. Simulation results using real world recordings show that the block-online BSS algorithm is very robust to speaker movement. When combined with AEC, simulation results using real audio recording in a car confirm the expectation that BSS improves double talk detection and echo suppression.
