Changes of Cholesterol and Selenium Levels, and Fatty Acid Composition in Broiler Meat Fed with Garlic Powder

  • Effect of garlic on cholesterol and selenium (Se) levels, and fatty acid composition in the broiler chicks (Indian River) fed diet containing 0, 2, 4, 6, and 10% lyophilized garlic powder (GA) for 6 weeks were determined. Supplementation of garlic powder significantly decreased cholesterol level in broiler compared to the control (p<0.05). Se levels were not significantly different (p>0.05) among treatment groups. Percentages of $C_{16:0}$ and $C_{18:1}$ were gradually decreased ($C_{16:0}$;20.62% of total fatty acid in the control to 17.71 % in 10% GA; $C_{18:1}$;34.08% in the control to 30.71 % in 10% GA), while that of $C_{18:2}$ was increased from 28.69% in the control to 35.89% of 10% GA diet (p<0.0l). These results demonstrate some active components of garlic reduce cholesterol level and affect fatty acid metabolism.

  • Quantum Well Disordering (QWD) has drawn a considerable attention in recent years$^{(1-3)}$ due to its wide applicability to optoelectronic devices. QWD allows modification of the shape of QW in selected regions, hence it modifies the subband energies in conduction and valance bands$^{(4)}$ . This leads to changes in optical properties such as band gap, absorption coefficient and refractive index. Thus such disordering in selected areas enables monolithic integration of various optoelectronic devices such as lasers, EA/EO modulators, waveguides and optical amplifiers. In this paper, we investigate the quantum well disordering effects on photoluminescence spectra by using experimental measurements and theoretical analysis$^{(5)}$ . (omitted)

  • GaN는 LED, 태양전지, 그리고 전자소자 등에 쓰이는 물질로, 관련 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있으며, 이와 더불어 top-down방식을 활용한 소자제작 방법 또한 발달되고 있다. 하지만, top-down공정 시 발생 되는 건식 식각에 의한 소자의 손상이 발생되고, 이로 인하여 누설전류가 발생하는 등 여러 가지 문제점이 발생하고 있다. 특히, top-down에서 널리 사용하는 건식식각을 통한 GaN 식각의 경우, nonpolar 면이 아닌, semipolar 면이 드러나게 되며, 이 면은 건식 식각시 발생하는 손상을 포함하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위해서, 약 $2{\mu}m$ 크기의 diameter를 갖는 micro-sized column LED를 제작하고, 건식 식각 이후, KOH surface treatment를 통해 손상된 면을 제거함과 동시에 nonpolar면을 드러내는 실험을 실시하였으며, 더불어 column의 diameter를 줄이는 방법을 논하고자 한다.

Analysis of the extraction efficiency in GaN-light emitting diodes using ray tracing simulation (광경로 시뮬레이션을 이용한 GaN-LED칩의 광추출 효율 분석)

  • It was analyzed qualitatively the light extraction in GaN-on-sapphire LEDs based on a simple model. The light extraction efficiency in the LEDs is simulated numerically by using ray tracing method. In the present study, the extraction efficiency was simulated on three different types of LEDs, which a have a different pattered sapphire substrate. And, the role of the patterned sapphire substrate are analyzed and discussed. Based on the analysis, the improvements of extraction efficiency in the LED structures were discussed and these analyses are helpful in the design of high brightness GaN LEDs.

  • This paper analyzed single AlGaAs/GaAa heterojunction energy band structures by solving Schr dinger's equation and Poisson's equation self-consistently. Four different concentrations, positively ionized donors, holes in the valence band, free electrons in the conduction band and 2DEG are taken into account for the whole system. 2DEG from both of the structures are obtained and compared with the date available in the literatures. Differential capacitances are also calculated from the concentration profiles obtained to prove the validity of the single AlGaAs/GaAs system. Finally, theoretical predictions for both of 2DEGs and the capacitances show good agreement with the experimental data referred in this study. It has only an error of les than 10 percent.

  • In this paper, we examined channel charge which occurs in electron accumulation after electron velocity saturation. Generally, short gate GaAs MESFET show, saturated electron velocity leading to current salutation. When electron velocity is saturated, deletion layer is stil open channel and it play a key role in deciding saturation current mode we proposed channel charge model in channel after electron velocity saturation.

  • The current-voltage characteristics of ion-implanted GaAs MESFET's have been simulated by using the velocity saturation model. Using this model, a MESFET with threshold voltage of -0.5V and transconductance of 460 mS/mm is designed. To implement high transconductance MESFET's, low energy ion-implantation (20 keV) and RTP(Rapid Thermal Process) activation ($575^{\circ}C$, 5sec) processes are required.

  • We designed and manufactured Ka-band SSPA include drive amplifier and high power amplifier MMICs by $0.15{\mu}m$ GaN commercial process. Also, we fabricated main components micro-strip line to WR28 waveguide transition and WR28 wave guide power combiner for Ka-band SSPA. This Ka-band SSPA shows saturated output power 44.2 dBm, power added efficiency 16.6 % and power gain 39.2 dB at 29~31 GHz frequency band.
