Sketch Recognition Using LSTM with Attention Mechanism and Minimum Cost Flow Algorithm

  • This paper presents a solution of the 'Quick, Draw! Doodle Recognition Challenge' hosted by Google. Doodles are drawings comprised of concrete representational meaning or abstract lines creatively expressed by individuals. In this challenge, a doodle is presented as a sequence of sketches. From the view of at the sketch level, to learn the pattern of strokes representing a doodle, we propose a sequential model stacked with multiple convolution layers and Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) cells following the attention mechanism [15]. From the view at the image level, we use multiple models pre-trained on ImageNet to recognize the doodle. Finally, an ensemble and a post-processing method using the minimum cost flow algorithm are introduced to combine multiple models in achieving better results. In this challenge, our solutions garnered 11th place among 1,316 teams. Our performance was 0.95037 MAP@3, only 0.4% lower than the winner. It demonstrates that our method is very competitive. Oleanolic Acid Provides Neuroprotection against Ischemic Stroke through the Inhibition of Microglial Activation and NLRP3 Inflammasome Activation

  • Oleanolic acid (OA), a natural pentacyclic triterpenoid, has been reported to exert protective effects against several neurological diseases through its anti-oxidative and anti-inflammatory activities. The goal of the present study was to evaluate the therapeutic potential of OA against acute and chronic brain injuries after ischemic stroke using a mouse model of transient middle cerebral artery occlusion (tMCAO, MCAO/reperfusion). OA administration immediately after reperfusion significantly attenuated acute brain injuries including brain infarction, functional neurological deficits, and neuronal apoptosis. Moreover, delayed administration of OA (at 3 h after reperfusion) attenuated brain infarction and improved functional neurological deficits during the acute phase. Such neuroprotective effects were associated with attenuation of microglial activation and lipid peroxidation in the injured brain after the tMCAO challenge. OA also attenuated NLRP3 inflammasome activation in activated microglia during the acute phase. In addition, daily administration of OA for 7 days starting from either immediately after reperfusion or 1 day after reperfusion significantly improved functional neurological deficits and attenuated brain tissue loss up to 21 days after the tMCAO challenge; these findings supported therapeutic effects of OA against ischemic stroke-induced chronic brain injury. Together, these findings showed that OA exerted neuroprotective effects against both acute and chronic brain injuries after tMCAO challenge, suggesting that OA is a potential therapeutic agent to treat ischemic stroke.

최적경험 제공을 위한 관광콘텐츠 기획에 관한 연구 (Study of Planning of Contents for Optimal Experience on Tourism)

  • 관광산업은 여가시간의 증가와 함께 질적으로나 양적으로 큰 성장을 보이고 있다. 지역을 대표하는 관광콘텐츠 개발이 활발하게 이루어짐에 따라 관광콘텐츠는 지역을 방문하는 관광객에게 단순한 여행서비스를 제공하는 것을 넘어 최고의 경험을 제공하는 단계로 발전을 했다. 하지만 이러한 관광콘텐츠는 지역성의 차이 이외에는 그 구성이나 속성에 크게 차별성이 없는 명목상의 관광콘텐츠도 적지 않다. 관광콘텐츠가 개인에게 감동을 주고 이것이 소비로 이어지기 위해서는 개인에 대한 이해, 개인의 경험에 대한 이해가 필요하기 때문에 서비스 경제사회를 넘어 체험경제사회로 접어든 현재에 '경험'은 관광콘텐츠를 상품으로 기획, 개발하는 하나의 기준이 될 수 있다. 이러한 맥락에서 이 글에서 다루는 체험경제이론의 체험4요소와 몰입론의 Challenge-skill 모델은 양질의 관광콘텐츠를 기획/개발하는 단계에서 관광객의 경험을 구체화시켜주는 틀을 제공해줄 수 있다. 이 글은 결과적으로 콘텐츠를 일종의 체험으로 보았을 때, 체험4요소를 통해 최대의 즐거움을 제공할 수 있는 4가지 요소를 제안하였고, 몰입론을 통해 콘텐츠의 수준과 관광객의 이해라는 측면에서 제공되어야 하는 균형 잡힌 콘텐츠에 대해 제안하였다.

  • The purpose of this paper is to describe the design and implementation of an unmanned ground vehicle, called the TailGator at CIMAR (Center for Intelligent Machines and Robotics) of the University of Florida. The TailGator is a gas powered, four-wheeled vehicle that was designed for the AUVSI Intelligent Ground Vehicle Competition and has been tested in the contest for 2 years. The vehicle control model and design of the sensory systems are described. The competition is comprised of two events called the Autonomous Challenge and the Navigation Challenge: For the autonomous challenge, line following, obstacle avoidance, and detection are required. Line following is accomplished with a camera system. Obstacle avoidance and detection are accomplished with a laser scanner. For the navigation challenge, waypoint following and obstacle detection are required. The waypoint navigation is implemented with a global positioning system. The TailGator has provided an educational test bed for not only the contest requirements but also other studies in developing artificial intelligence algorithms such as adaptive control, creative control, automatic calibration, and internet-base control. The significance of this effort is in helping engineering and technology students understand the transition from theory to practice.

Construction and Immunogenicity of Recombinant Swinepox Virus Expressing Outer Membrane Protein L of Salmonella

  • Salmonella spp. are gram-negative flagellated bacteria that cause a variety of diseases in humans and animals, ranging from mild gastroenteritis to severe systemic infection. To explore development of a potent vaccine against Salmonella infections, the gene encoding outer membrane protein L (ompL) was inserted into the swinepox virus (SPV) genome by homologous recombination. PCR, western blot, and immunofluorescence assays were used to verify the recombinant swinepox virus rSPV-OmpL. The immune responses and protection efficacy of rSPV-OmpL were assessed in a mouse model. Forty mice were assigned to four groups, which were immunized with rSPV-OmpL, inactive Salmonella (positive control), wild-type SPV (wtSPV; negative control), or PBS (challenge control), respectively. The OmpL-specific antibody in the rSPV-OmpL-immunized group increased dramatically and continuously over time post-vaccination, and was present at a significantly higher level than in the positive control group (p < 0.05). The concentrations of IFN-γ and IL-4, which represent Th1-type and Th2-type cytokine responses, were significantly higher (p < 0.05) in the rSPV-OmpL-vaccinated group than in the other three groups. After intraperitoneal challenge with a lethal dose of Salmonella typhimurium CVCC542, eight out of ten mice in the rSPV-OmpL-vaccinated group were protected, whereas all the mice in the negative control and challenge control groups died within 3 days. Passive immune protection assays showed that hyperimmune sera against OmpL could provide mice with effective protection against challenge from S. typhimurium. The recombinant swinepox virus rSPV-OmpL might serve as a promising vaccine against Salmonella infection.

Effect of Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) Exposure on the Reproductive Organs of Immature Female Rats

  • Lipopolysaccharide (LPS), an endotoxin, elicits strong immune responses in mammals. Several lines of evidence demonstrate that LPS challenge profoundly affects female reproductive function. For example, LPS exposure affects steroidogenesis and folliculogenesis, resulting in delayed puberty onset. The present study was conducted to clarify the mechanism underlying the adverse effect of LPS on the delayed puberty in female rats. LPS was daily injected for 5 days ($50{\mu}g/kg$, PND 25-29) to treated animals and the date at VO was evaluated through daily visual examination. At PND 39, animals were sacrificed, and the tissues were immediately removed and weighed. Among the reproductive organs, the weights of the ovaries and oviduct from LPS-treated animals were significantly lower than those of control animals. There were no changes in the weights of uterus and vagina between the LPS-treated and their control animals. immunological challenge by LPS delayed VO. Multiple corpora lutea were found in the control ovaries, indicating ovulations were occurred. However, none of corpus luteum was present in the LPS-treated ovary. The transcription level of steroidogenic acute regulatory protein (StAR), CYP11A1, CYP17A1 and CYP19 were significantly increased by LPS treatment. On the other hand, the levels of $3{\beta}$-HSD, $17{\beta}$-HSD and LH receptor were not changed by LPS challenge. In conclusion, the present study demonstrated that the repeated LPS exposure during the prepubertal period could induce multiple alterations in the steroidogenic machinery in ovary, and in turn, delayed puberty onset. The prepubertal LPS challenge model used in our study is useful to understand the reciprocal regulation of immune (stress) - reproductive function in early life.

청피(靑皮)가 천식유발 백서에서 VEGF에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Citro Reticulatae Viride Pericarpium on the Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor(VEGF) in the bronchial asthma mouse model)

  • Objective : Author evaluate the effects of Citri Reticulatae Viride Pericarpium for the bronchial asthma using assesment of the vascular endothelial growth factor after Citri Reticulatae Viride Peicarpium was intravenously administered Ovalbumine(OVA)-sensitized and -challenged mice. Material and Methods : Twenty-four female mice, 8-10 weeks old and free of murine specific pathogens, were sensitized by intraperitoneal injection of OVA. Of the sensitized mice, ten mice didn't administrate Citri Reticulatae Viride Pericarpium and the other ten mice administrated Citri Reticulatae Viride Pericarpium. Mice were sensitized on the first and fourteen days introspectional injection of 20 ${\mu}g$ OVA. After$21^{st}\;22^{th}\;and\;23^{rd}$, the initial sensitization, the mice were challenged for 30 minutes with an aerosol of 1% OVA in saline. Citri Reticulatae Viride Pericarpium administered 200mg/kg in the tail of the mouse, one a day, for 7 days and beginning 14 days after first sensitization. Bronchoalveolar lavage was performed 72 hours after the last challenge, and total cell numbers in the BAL fluid were count. Also, lever of VEGF in the BAL fluid was measured by Enzyme immunoassays and Western blot analysis. Results: Total cell numbers in BAL fluid were significantly greater than from 72 hrs after OVA inhalation compared with cell numbers in the control group. However, there was no difference of the total cell numbers between OVA-challenge groups without Citri Reticulatae Viride Pericarpium, and OVA-challenge with Citri Reticulatae Viride Pericarpium. Enzyme immunoassay revealed that VEGF levels in the BAL fluids were significantly increased 72 hrs after OVA inhalation compared with levels in the control group. After administration of the Citri Reticulatae Viride Pericarpiu, the levels of the VEGF in BAL fluids 72 hrs after OVA inhalation reduced dramatically. Western blot analysis revealed that VEGF protein levels were increased in the all mice which were challenge with OVA, without administered Citri Reticulatae Viride Pericarpium, compared the normal mouse. However, in the groups of the administered Citri Reticulatae Viride Pericarpium, the VEGF protein level markedly decreased. Conclusion: Citri Reticulatae Viride Pericarpium might affect the treatment of the bronchial ashma as a inhibition of the VEGF.

방해성 및 도전성 스트레서, 긍정심리자본이 프리젠티즘에 미치는 영향: 직무열의와 직무탈진의 매개효과 (The Impacts of Hindrance·Challenge Stressor and Psychological Capital on Presenteeism: The Mediation Effects of Job Engagement and Job Burnout)

  • 본 연구는 직무요구-자원 모형을 기반으로 두어 건강상의 문제가 있음에도 불구하고 일을 하여 생산성이 감소되는 프리젠티즘의 심리적 원인에 대해 파악하고자 하였다. 프리젠티즘의 심리적 원인에 대해 알아보고자 직무자원을 개인적 차원의 심리적 자원인 긍정심리자본으로 재해석 하였으며, 직무요구를 도전성 및 방해성 스트레서로 구분하여 직무요구의 긍정적인 측면과 부정적인 측면에 대해 확인해보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 국내 다양한 직종에 종사하고 있는 직장인 329명을 대상으로 온라인 설문조사를 실시하였다. 자료분석은 SPSS 21.0과 AMOS 20.0을 사용하여 분석하였다. 연구결과, 도전성 스트레서는 직무열의와 정적으로 유의한 상관을 보였고, 방해성 스트레서는 직무열의와는 부적으로 유의한 상관을 직무탈진과는 정적으로 유의한 상관을 보였으며, 긍정심리자본은 직무열의와 정적상관을 직무탈진과는 부적으로 유의한 상관을 보였다. 마지막으로 프리젠티즘은 직무탈진과 부적으로 유의한 상관을 보였다. 마지막으로 이들 변인을 종합한 매개분석결과, 수용할 만한 부합도 지수를 보였다.

Development of the efficient insulin secretion model for the oral glucose tolerance test

  • Cobelli와 그의 동료들이 제안한 포도당 농도에 따른 췌장의 인슐린 분비 모델(Cobelli model)은 비교적 단순한 모델이지만 Grodsky의 실험 뿐만 아니라 일련의 관련 실험을 재현하였다. 하지만 이 모델은 췌장 베타세포 내 인슐린 분포를 미분형식으로 표현하였고, 적분을 통해 인슐린 양을 계산하였다. 그로 인해 각 시간 스텝에서 포도당의 양에 따라 적분 구간만큼 반복적인 계산을 수행해야만 했다. 이에 본 연구에서는 Cobelli model을 재현하면서 좀 더 효과적으로 결과를 얻을 수 있는 새로운 Multi-RRP model을 제시하였다. Multi-RRP model은 RRP를 과립의 자극 여부에 따라 RRPhigh와 RRPlow로 나누어 각각의 인슐린 분비를 계산하는 방법으로, 포도당의 변화에 따라 RRP의 수를 증가시켜 인슐린의 분비량을 산출한다. 이 Multi-RRP model의 시뮬레이션 결과는 Cobelli model과 동일한 경향을 보이며, Grodsky의 계단 실험과의 비교에서는 Cobelli model보다 실험 결과에 더 접근한다. 또한, 시뮬레이션 시간 비교를 통해 효율성을 확인하였고, Multi-RRP model이 Cobelli model보다 16배 이상 효율이 더 높은 것으로 확인되었다.
