  • We found a new stay-green mutant from 'Pyeongwon' which is an early-maturing rice variety in Korea. The mutant showed green leaves after grain ripening period and it maintained higher SPAD value than wild type rice plant and original variety 'Pyeongwon'. The stay-green trait in rice, three genes have been identified up to date. The non-yellow coloring1 (NYC1) gene encodes a chloroplast-localized short-chain dehydrogenase/reductase (SDR) with three transmembrane domains. The non-yellow coloring3 (NYC3) gene encodes a plastid-localizing alpha/beta hydrolase-fold family protein with an esterase/lipase motif. The Sgr gene encodes a novel chloroplast protein and regulates the destabilization of the light-harvesting chlorophyll binding protein (LHCP) complexes of the thylakoid membranes, which is a prerequisite event for the degradation of chlorophylls and LHCPs during senescence. After sequencing the PCR products, we found a single nucleotide variation($A{\rightarrow}T$) in the NYC1 gene, which changes the amino acid lysine to methionine. The NYC1 gene encodes a short-chain dehydrogenase/reductase(SDR) protein. And we confirmed the co-segregation between SNP and stay-green trait from genotyping the progenies of the mutant.

  • The length of hospital stay (LOS) for patients with respiratory virus infections has been reported to depend the virus type and infection severity. However, the impact of co-infections remains unclear. Patients with suspected respiratory virus infections, who visited Dankook University Hospital between December 2006 and February 2014, were included to examine the relationship between co-infections and LOS. Multiplex reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reactions were used to identify the causative viruses. LOS was analyzed with respect to sex, age, virus, and co-infection. During this period, 5,310 out of the 8,860 patients (59.9%; median age, 1.5 years) were respiratory virus-positive. In respiratory virus-positive patients with single, double, and three-or-more infections, the average LOS was 7.3, 6.7, and 6.6 days, respectively. Longer LOS was observed for older patients and those with human coronavirus OC43 infections compared with adenovirus or respiratory syncytial virus A infections. LOS differed significantly according to age, virus type, and co-infection, but not between double and three or more infections.

  • In this study, a mobility analysis method is suggested to estimate an O/D trip demand estimation using Mobile Phone Signaling Data. Using mobile data based on mobile base station location information, a trip chain database was established for each person and daily traffic patterns were analyzed. In addition, a new algorithm was developed to determine the traffic characteristics of their mobilities. To correct the ping pong handover problem of communication data itself, the methodology was developed and the criteria for stay time was set to distinguish pass by between stay within the influence area. The big-data based method is applied to analyze the mobility pattern in inter-regional trip and intra-regional trip in both of an urban area and a rural city. When comparing it with the results with traditional methods, it seems that the new methodology has a possibility to be applied to the national survey projects in the future.

  • Purpose: Meningitis is among the most common infections affecting the central nervous system. It can be difficult to determine the exact pathogen responsible for the infection and patients are often treated with empiric antibiotics. This study was conducted to identify the most common clinical characteristics of enteroviral meningitis in children and evaluate the diagnostic efficacy of reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) for early detection of an enterovirus. Methods: We analyzed the medical records of children admitted to Korea University Medical Center and diagnosed with meningitis on the basis of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) analysis and RT-PCR from CSF and other samples from January 2010 to August 2013. Results: A total of 333 patients were enrolled and classified into four groups based on diagnosis: enteroviral meningitis (n=110), bacterial meningitis (n=23), other viral meningitis (n=36), and unknown etiology (n=164). Patients with bacterial meningitis were younger than those in the other groups (P<0.001). Pleocytosis in CSF was similar across all groups. Of patients in the enteroviral meningitis group, 92.7% were diagnosed based on RT-PCR findings. Mean length of hospital stay for patients with enteroviral meningitis was 6.08 days, which was significantly shorter than that for patients with meningitis of bacterial etiology (19.73 days, P<0.001). Conclusion: Diagnosis of enteroviral meningitis before viral culture results are available is possible using RT-PCR. Accurate diagnosis reduces the length of hospital stay and helps to avoid unnecessary empiric antibiotic treatment.

  • Increasing the tourism sector has a positive impact on a country. The Indonesian government has targeted to increase the number of tourists from year to year including the heritage tourism sector. However, the number of the heritage tourism sector increases slowly. To overcome this problem, this research is aimed to investigate the services performed by managements of that sector; the barrier and driver factors of heritage tourism supply chain quality management; and to identify strategies that can be implemented to improve the sector. This study used SERVQUAL method to analyze service performance of the sector. Furthermore, an in-depth interview was conducted to achieve completed objectives. The data obtained from questionnaires and interviews in several heritage tourism areas located in East Java Province of Indonesia. The results show that all SERVQUAL dimensions stay on the adequate value range. Visitors argue that the heritage tourism sector in East Java has interesting locations, collections and circumstances. However, the sector has several weaknesses compared to other tourism sectors. The strategy that can be done to improve the performance of this sector are to perform the area as an event venue, additional visiting hours, integration with other types of tourism sectors, making websites as a means of promotion.

  • This study, targeting Korean tertiary hospitals and general hospitals, aims to analyze how value chain model in health and medical institution suggested by Duncan and else influences on hospital management. A survey was conducted to verify the actual proof analysis of this study model. 880 questionnaires were distributed to entire 88 hospitals and 739 copies were returned from 76 hospitals. This study mainly consists of three steps to analyze the effect value chain activity has on management performance of general hospitals. For the first step, we analyzed the effects service delivery activity has on management performance. For the second step, we analyzed the effects service support activity has on management performance and for the third, we analyzed the effects interaction between service delivery activity and service support activity has on management performance. The main results of this study are as follows. First, in terms of the management performance of scale, the factors which influenced on daily charge of outpatient were service activity before treatment, at the moment of treatment and value chain activity, while more important factors in daily charge of inpatient were organizational culture, organizational structure and value chain activity. In terms of management performance of quality, the factors which influenced on the first medical examination rate of outpatient were service activity before, at the moment of and after treatment, while activity at the moment of treatment, organizational structure, and value chain activity which is interaction were more important factors in average length of stay. In terms of non-financial performance, the management performance factors which influenced on job satisfaction were service activity at the moment of, after the treatment and value chain activity, while organizational culture, strategy resources and value chain activity which is interaction were more important factors in job commitment. Secondly, all the service support activity, service delivery activity and value chain activity had statistically significant effect on management performance. Among the three factors, service support activity had relatively high effect than others.

  • In this paper, we propose a mobility estimation model based on inner regions in a cell and a dynamic resource reservation scheme which can control dynamically classes of mobile hosts on the mobile network. The mobility estimation model is modeled based on the reducible Markov chain. And the mobility estimation model provides a new hand off probability and a new remaining time for the dynamic resource reservation scheme. The remaining time is n estimated time that mobile hosts can stay in a cell. The dynamic resource reservation scheme can reserve dynamically a requested resource according to the classes of mobile hosts. This scheme can efficiently improve the connection blocking probability and connection dropping probability.

  • Manufacturers, or vendors, and their customers continue to adopt vendor-managed inventory(VMI) program to improve supply chain performance through collaboration achieved by consolidating replenishment responsibility upstream with vendors. In this paper, we construct a mixed integer linear programming model and propose a genetic algorithm for the integrated inventory and routing problems with lost sales maximizing the total profit in the VMI supply chains which comprise of a single manufacturer and multi-retailer. The proposed GA is compared with the mathematical model on the various sized test problems with respect to the solution quality and computation time. As a result, the GA demonstrates the capability of reaching solutions that are very close to those obtained by the mathematical model for small problems and stay within 3.2% from those obtained by the mathematical model for larger problems, with a much shorter computation time. Finally, we investigate the effects of the cost and operation variables on the total profit of the problem as well as the GA performance through the sensitivity analyses.

  • Purpose: Macrolide-resistant Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia (MPP) is characterized by prolonged fever and radiological progression despite macrolide treatment. Few studies have examined serum procalcitonin (PCT) level in children with MPP. We aimed to investigate the association of acute inflammation markers including PCT with clinical parameters in children with MPP. Methods: A total of 147 children were recruited. The diagnosis of MPP relied on serial measurement of IgM antibody against mycoplasma and/or polymerase chain reaction. We evaluated the relationships between C-reactive protein (CRP), PCT, and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) levels and white blood cell (WBC) counts, and clinical severity of the disease. We used multivariate logistic regression analysis to estimate the odds ratio for prolonged fever (>3 days after admission) and hospital stay (> 6 days), comparing quintiles 2-5 of the PCT levels with the lowest quintile. Results: The serum PCT and CRP levels were higher in children with fever and hospital stay than in those with fever lasting ${\leq}3days$ after admission and hospital stay ${\leq}6days$. CRP level was higher in segmental/lobar pneumonia than in bronchopneumonia. The LDH level and WBC counts were higher in children with fever lasting for >3 days before compared to those with fever lasting for ${\leq}3days$. The highest quintile of PCT levels was associated with a significantly higher risk of prolonged fever and/or hospital stay than the lowest quintile. Conclusion: Serum PCT and CRP levels on admission day were associated with persistent fever and longer hospitalization in children with MPP.
