The purpose of this study is to observe the effects of Chaenomelis Fructus Herba Chelidonii Clematis Florida Thunb mixed water extract on the inflammatory edema induced by Found's complete adjuvant and on different blood volume, and then to demonstrate its efficiencies as well as its safety. We injected Chaenomelis Fructus Herba Chelidonii Clematis Florida Thunb mixed water extract on the inflammatory edema induced by Found's complete adjuvant once daily at the same time for a week, then observed the paw-edema, the counts of the blood WBC, Serum total protein, Serum total bilirrubin, SGOT and SGPT The result obtained is as follows : Inflammatory edema on the right plantar in both sample groups showed a significant reduce compared with that in the control group. The counts of WBC in both sample groups showed a significant decrease compared with that in the control group. The volume of serum total protein in the Sample A group showed a significant decrease compared with that in the control group. The volume of serum total bilirrubin, GOT and GPT in both sample groups was not changed compared with that in the control group. As a result of this experiment, it is concluded that Chaenomelis Fructus Herba Chelidonii Clematis Florida Thunb mixed water extract showed that therapeutic effect on the anti-inflammation on arthritis; otherwise it showed non-toxic effect on the liver function.

Methanol and/or boiling water extraction of 201 natural products and subsequent MTT assay using MT-4 cell line was carried out to screen the anti-HIV-1 activity. Among 97 methanol extracts, 7 extracts from Chrysanthemi Indicium Flos, Magnoliae Cortex, Machili Cortex, Reynoutriae Rhizoma, Lithospermi Radix, Agastachis Herba, and Chaenomelis Fructus showed anti-HIV-1 activity and their SI value were 2.25 to 5.77. In addition, among 119 boiling water extracts, 10 extracts from Lonicerae Caulis et Foloium, Elsholtziae Herba, Leonuri Herba, Portulacae Herba, Schizonepetae Herba, Curcumae Rhizoma, Amomi Cardamomi Fructus, Cirsii Radix et Herba, Carpesii Herba, and Siegesbeckiae Herba showed anti-HIV-1 activity and their SI value were 1.30 to 7.64. Methanol extracts of above seven natural products were fractionated and the anti-HIV-1 activity of each fraction was examined. Extraction was carried out with hexane, chloroform, butanol, and water to trace active anti-HIV-1 componets. As a result, the water fraction of Magnoliae Cortex, Machili Cortex, Reynoutriae Rhizoma, Agastachis Herba, Chaenomelis Fructus and the butanol fraction of Chrysanthemi Indicium Flos, Reynoutriae Rhizoma showed anti-HIV-1 activity and their SI value were 1.40 to 8.02. We could reach a conclusion that studies to trace the anti-HIV-1 active component of each natural products in further fractionation and to identify its structure by Infrared spectroscopy, NMR spectroscopy and gel permeation chromatography were needed.

Objective : In order to study the effects of Herba ChelidoniiㆍClematis Florida ThunbㆍChaenomelis Fructus complex herbal acupuncture on anti-inflammation and liver in rats with arthritis induced Freund's complete adjuvant. Method : We performed several experimental items : that is edema value, numbers of WBC. total protein, total bilirrubin, SGOT, SGPT. Result: The change in the right plantar edema shows that Control group was reduced by 0% but, ST group ,Sample A group and Sample B group were reduced by 287.2%, 343.0%, 272.5% respectively. In the WBC count, ST group, Sample A group, Sample B group showed a decrease with statistical significance as compared with control group. In the total protein, Sample B group showed a decrease with statistical significance as compared with control group. In the total bilirrubin, SGOT, SGPT, None showed noxious variation with statistical significance as compared with control group. Conclusion : As a result of this experiment, it is concluded that Herba ChelidoniiㆍClematis Florida ThunbㆍChaenomelis Fructus complex herbal acupuncture showed that therapeutic effect of anti-inflammation in adjuvant arthritis and non-toxic effect of liver.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of Chaenomelis Fructus Herba Water Extract(CF) on the production of inflammatory mediators in RAW 264.7 cell mouse macrophages stimulated with LPS. Methods: We have not examined effect of CF on the cell viability of RAW 264.7 cell until we investigated effects of CF on LPS-induced productions of NO, Ca and various cytokines in RAW 264.7 cell. And when p-value is below 0.05, it is judged to have the significant difference statistically(P<0.05). Results: 1. CF increased the cell viability in the RAW 264.7 cell at the density of 25, 50, 100 and 200 ${\mu}g/ml$. 2. CF inhibited significantly increasing the production of NO in LPS-induced RAW 264.7 cell at the density of 25, 50, 100 and 200 ${\mu}g/ml$. 3. CF inhibited significantly increasing the production of Intracellular Ca in LPS-induced RAW 264.7 cell at the density of 25, 50, 100 and 200 ${\mu}g/ml$. 4. CF inhibited significantly the IL-2, IL-10, IL-12p70, TNF-${\alpha}$, GM-CSF, M-CSF, LIF and VEGF of the RAW 264.7 cell induced by LPS at the density of 25, 50, 100 and 200 ${\mu}g/ml$. 5. CF inhibited significantly the IL-4 at the density of 25, 50 ${\mu}g/ml$, the IL-5, IL-15 and MIG at the density of 25, 50 and 200 ${\mu}g/ml$ and IFN-${\gamma}$ at the density of 25, 100 ${\mu}g/ml$ respectively in the RAW 264.7 cell increased by LPS. Conclusions: CF inhibited significantly increasing IL-2, IL-10, IL-12p70, TNF-${\alpha}$, GM-CSF, M-CSF, LIF, VEGF, NO and Ca in LPS-induced RAW 264.7 cell at the density of more than 25 ${\mu}g/ml$ without causing the toxicity. These results signify that CF has antiinflammatory effect on controlling the over inflammatory reaction by the RAW 264.7 cell.

This research was to investigate inhibitory activity of Sasang medicines on Obesity. 56 kind of herb medicines to powder, abstract add 100 times methanol. Examine inhibitory effect against lipase activity in vitro. It was compared Xenical(Orlistat) with 56 kind of herb medicines.
