In this study, we investigated the effect of electrode pattern design on the thermal shock resistance and temperature uniformity of a ceramic heater. A cordierite substrate with a low thermal expansion coefficient was fabricated by tape casting, and a tungsten electrode was printed and used as a heating element. The temperature distribution of the ceramic heater was calculated by a finite-element method (FEM) by considering various electrode patterns, and the tensile stress distribution due to the thermal stress was calculated. In the electrode pattern with a single-line width, the central part of the ceramic heater was heated to the maximum temperature, and the position of the ceramic heater having a double-line width was changed to the maximum temperature, depending on the position of the minimum line width pattern. The highest tensile stress was found along the edges of the ceramic heater. The temperature gradient at the edge determined the tensile stress intensity. The smallest tensile stress was observed for electrode pattern D, which was expected to be advantageous in resisting thermal shock failures in ceramic heaters.
Ink-jet printing is a manufacturing process technology that directly prints a digitalized design pattern onto a substrate using a fine ink jetting system. In this study, environmentally friendly yellow aqueous ceramic ink is synthesized by mixture of distilled water, yellow ceramic pigment and additives for ink-jet printing. The graft polymer, which combines electrostatic repulsion and steric hindrance mechanism, is used as a surfactant for dispersion stability of aqueous ceramic ink. Synthesized ceramic ink with graft polymer surfactant shows better dispersion stability than did ceramic ink with PAA surfactant; synthesized ink also shows desirable ink-jet printability with the formation of a single ink droplet during printability test. Finally, ceramic ink printed on glass substrate and ceramic ink with graft polymer surfactant shows a high contact angle without surface treatment on glass substrate. Consequently, it is confirmed that the ceramic ink with graft polymer surfactant can achieve high printing resolution without additional surface treatment process.

Digital ink-jet printing technology using ceramic ink, which is thermally stable at high temperature above $1000^{\circ}C$, has an advantage of eco-friendly process applicable to manufacturing products with an excellent durability and various designs. Recently, replacement from conventional manufacturing process to digital process using ink-jet printing technique has been significantly accelerated in ceramic tile industry. In this study, we investigated ink-jet printability of ceramic ink on ceramic tile. Cyan, magenta, yellow, black ceramic inks, which are digital primary color of ink-jet printing, were printed on glazed surface of ceramic tiles, and their printabilities were comparatively analyzed. High temperature sintering process is generally required for manufacturing ceramic products, thus effect of sintering process on printed pattern of ceramic ink was also investigated by analyzing ink penetration depth and ink dot area.
The recently introduced castable glass ceramics incorporate properties characteristic of natural teeth and they are regarded as an ideal material to restore lost tooth structure. The purpose of this study was to compare the marginal fit of castable ceramic crown with that of the metal-ceramic crown in the process of heat treatment. Two master dies for castable ceramic crowns and metal-ceramic crowns were fabricated from being cast with the base metal. Each master die was duplicated with addition silicone and hard stone. Ten castable ceramic crowns were made on each hard stone die and their marginal openings were measured three times first, after casting; second, after ceramming; third, after shading. The other ten metal-ceramic crowns were made on each hard stone die and their marginal openings were measured three times : first, after casting; second, after degassing; third, after porcelain veneering. Each crown was seated on its master die with the constant force delivered by loading jig. And then, marginal openings were measured on four locations by optical projector at X50 magnification. The results were as follows: 1. The mean marginal openings of castable ceramic crowns were $31.1{\pm}12.7{\mu}m$ after casting; $44.6{\pm}12.8{\mu}m$ after ceramming; $51.2{\pm}16.8{\mu}m$ after shading. 2. The mean marginal openings of the metal-ceramic crowns were $26.2{\pm}13.8{\mu}m$ after casting; $29.8{\pm}10.3{\mu}m$ after degassing; $38.0{\pm}14.5{\mu}m$ after porcelain veneering. 3. There was significant increase in the marginal opening of castable ceramic crowns after ceramming, while metal-ceramic crowns sho(wed significant increase after porcelain veneering (p<0.05). 4. Marginal fit of metal-ceramic crown was better than that of castable ceramic crown (p<0.01).
Ceramic nano pigments have attracted much interest owing to recent demand for nontoxic, heavy metal-free pigments. In general, ceramic pigments must possess thermal stability at high temperature, however nanosized powder easily undergoes aggregation at high temperature, and its color turns. serveral groups have focused on to minimize agglomeration and oxidation, a core-shell structure with a silica coating is suggested. In this review, we introduce the reported the trend of nano-ceramic powders and we summarized method improve color and physical properties throuth morphology control and ceramic coating technology.
The yield is increasing as the manufacturing technology of ceramics progresses, however, there are many ceramics of poor quality due to variables upon producing ceramics. Some of those waste ceramics are recycled by sanitary ware or tile manufacturers, but most of them are filled in making environmental problem. Therefore, a research begins to recycle waste ceramic ware as alternative to some imported ceramic ware materials and to reduce environmental pollution. This study, succeeding last study which applied waste white ware as ceramic body material, aimed to solve problems of environment and materials by recycling waste ceradon generated in specially formed areas for ceramic in Gyeonggi-do such as Icheon, Yeoju and Gwangju as the ceramic body material. Consequently, the addition of waste ceramic ware into the ceramic body was judged to have limit up to 30% according to plasticity measurement. As we added shredded waste ceramic ware as much as 30% into basic ceramic body and checked its features, the pore rate and absorption rate were good to be average 4% and 3% respectively. In addition, it showed strength more than 720 kgf/$cm^2$ which is higher than existing ceradon body on the market with good sinter state; so it is judged to be available or developed as new ceramic body.

The viscosity of a ceramic slurry depends on the slurry concentration, particle shape and size, hydrodynamic interactions, temperature, shear rate, pre-treatment condition and the method of measurement with the selected equipment. Representative ceramic slurries with low to high viscosity levels are selected from colloidal silica, barium titanate slurry and glass frit paste. Rotational rheometers and vibrational viscometers are used to compare the measured viscosity for various ceramic slurries. The rotational rheometer measured the viscosity according to the change of the shear rate or the rotational speed. On the other hand, the vibrational viscometer measured one point of the viscosity in a fixed vibrational mode. The rotational rheometer allows the measurement of the viscosity of a ceramic paste with a viscosity higher than 100,000 cP, while the vibrational viscometer provides an easy and quick method to measure the viscosity without deformation of the ceramic slurry due to the measurement method. It is necessary to select suitable equipment with which to measure the viscosity depending on the purpose of the measurement.
In the development of advanced ceramic tools, material improvements and design freedom are critical in improving tool performance. However, in the die press molding method, many factors limit tool design and make it difficult to develop innovative advanced tools. Ceramic 3D printing facilitates the production of prototype samples for advanced tool development and the creation of complex tooling products. Furthermore, it is possible to respond to mass production requirements by reflecting the needs of the tool industry, which can be characterized by small quantities of various products. However, many problems remain in ensuring the reliability of ceramic tools for industrial use. In this study, alumina inserts, a representative ceramic tool, was manufactured using the digital light process (DLP), a 3D printing method. Alumina inserts prepared by 3D printing are pressurelessly sintered under the same conditions as coupon-type specimens prepared by press molding. After sintering, a hot isostatic pressing (HIP) treatment is performed to investigate the effects of relative density and microstructure changes on hardness and fracture toughness. Alumina inserts prepared by 3D printing show lower relative densities than coupon specimens prepared by powder molding but indicate similar hardness and higher fracture toughness values.

Hot gas filtration method via using ceramic filters is an evolving technology applicable to numerous industrial and air pollution control processes. Alumino silicate, organic and inorganic binders were the major raw materials in manufacturing ceramic filters. In this work, disc type ceramic filters(50$\phi$$\times$10t) were manufactured by vacuum forming processes using ceramic raw materials. The porosity and bulk density of disc type ceramic filers ranged from 86 to 89% and from 0.27 to 0.36 g/㎤, respectively. In this work disc type ceramic medium were tested utilizing coupon experimental apparatus. Disc type filters showed high collection efficiencies over 99.96% with Darchs law coefficients of 4.1$\times$10(sup)10~9.63$\times$10(sup)10/$m^2$ depending on mean pore sizes. In addition, filtration and detachment of ceramic filters turned out to be performed effectively using 10 cm/sec face velocity, 5 minutes filtration cycle, 100msec pulse jet valve opening time and 3 bar pulsing pressure.
