  • The radio wave propagation characteristics of the transmitter and receiver position change in the indoor environment were predicted through simulation, then the results obtained through the transmission loss measurement were compared and analyzed with the simulation results. The conference room was chosen as the environment for measuring transmission loss, and the radio transmission characteristics of the two environments were compared by selecting the exhibition hall without interior decorations and fixtures. In each indoor environment, the position of the transmitter chose two cases. One located in the center of the front wall and the other in the center of the side wall, and the position of the receiver moved along the centerline of the conference room and the side wall, measuring the receiving power. For each change in transmitter-receiver position, received power of 3GHz and 6GHz band were measured and compared with the simulation forecast results. The changes in received power at each receiving point were analyzed according to the location of the transmitter and the frequency band variation.

  • Corrosion of metallic materials occurs by the reaction with corrosive environment such as atmosphere, marine, soil, urban, high temperature etc. In general, reduction of thickness and cracking and degradation are resulted from corrosion. Corrosion in all industrial facilities and infrastructure causes large economic losses as well as a large number of accidents. Economic loss by corrosion has been reported to be nearly 1-6% of GNP or GDP. In order to reduce corrosion damage of industrial facilities, corrosion map as well as a systematic investigation of the loss of corrosion in each industrial sector is needed. The Corrosion Science Society of Korea in collaboration with 15 universities and institutes has started to survey on the cost of corrosion and corrosion map of Korea since 2005. This work presents the results of the survey on cost of corrosion by Uhlig, Hoar, and input-output methods, and the evaluation of atmospheric corrosion rate of carbon steel, weathering steel, galvanized steel, copper, and aluminum in Korea. The total corrosion cost was estimated in terms of the percentage of the GDP of industry sectors and the total GDP of Korea. According to the result of Input/output method, corrosion cost of Korea was calculated as 2.9% to GDP (2005). Time of wetness was shown to be categories 3 to 4 in all exposure areas. A definite seasonal difference was observed in Korea. In summer and fall, time of wetness was higher than in other seasons. Because of short exposure period (12 months), significant corrosion trends depending upon materials and exposure corrosion environments were not revealed even though increased mass loss and decreased corrosion rate by exposure time.

  • In this study, we verify the accurate numerical analysis and simplify the perforated plate of inlet and exhaust duct using porous media for the cost reduction and the efficiency improvement of thermal-fluid analysis to evaluate cooling performance of wheel-loader. The flow loss coefficient of the perforated plate is defined by the experiment result. To define analytically the flow loss coefficient of the perforated plate, we calculate the pressure drop of unit-cell and compare to experiment result. Finally, we compare the heat balance test and the simplified simulation result on the inlet and exhaust duct of wheel-loader. After this study, we verify the applicability of the simplified analysis method on the inlet and exhaust duct of wheel-loader. And, foundation which can carry out effectively the evaluation and improvement for cooling performance of wheel-loader is prepared.

  • This paper compared simulation characteristics on the design of center strip by structure simulator with manufacture of 2.6GHz non-reciprocal element. Secures condition that affect in PIMD and confirmed change value of PIMD by change of condition. Implemented non-reciprocal element shows more than 20dB isolation characteristic at center frequency(2,650MHz) and has 0.2dB insertion loss in overall 100MHz operating bandwidth. Return losses of input and output port are measured below -20dB. IMD of non-reciprocal element exhibited superior value when there were no gaps between internal components and when materials having identical substances were used, and it showed an improving tendency when the pressure was increased higher, however, in case of applying pressure higher than a certain level, it results in damages, etc. of the magnet inside and ferrite as well, so then the characteristics of IMD was rapidly increased along with decrease of frequency characteristics.

  • Background/Aims: Intragastric balloon (IGB) is the only available endoscopic bariatric and metabolic therapy in Korea. End-ball (Endalis) has the longest history of clinical use among the IGBs available in Korea. However, little clinical data on this system have been reported. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of End-ball in Korea. Methods: We performed a retrospective cohort study of patients who underwent IGB insertion (End-ball) from 2013 to 2019. Demographic and anthropometric data were collected. The efficacy and safety of IGB treatment were analyzed. Results: In total, 80 patients were included. Mean age was 33.7 years and 83.8% were female. Initial body mass index was 34.48±4.69 kg/m2. Body mass index reduction was 3.72±2.63 kg/m2 at the time of IGB removal. Percent of total body weight loss (%TBWL) was 10.76%±6.76%. Percentage excess body weight loss was 43.67%±27.59%. Most adverse events were minor, and 71.4% of participants showed nausea, vomiting, or abdominal pain. Conclusions: IGB treatment showed good efficacy and safety profile in Korean patients with obesity. In terms of %TBWL and percentage excess body weight loss, the efficacy was similar to that in the Western population.

  • Parkinson's disease (PD) progresses severely by a gradual loss of dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra (SN). Epidemiological studies showed that the incidences of PD were reduced by smoking of which the major component, nicotine might be neuroprotective. But the function of nicotine, which might suppress the incidences of PD, is still unknown. Fortunately, recently it was reported that a glial reaction and inflammatory processes might participate in a selective loss of dopaminergic neurons in the SN. The levels of tumour necrosis factor (TNF)-${\alpha}$ synthesised by astrocytes and microglia are elevated in striatum and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) in PD. TNF-${\alpha}$ kills the cultured dopaminergic neurons through the apoptosis mechanism. TNF-${\alpha}$ release from glial cells may mediate progression of nigral degeneration in PD. Nicotine pretreatment considerably decreases microglial activation with significant reduction of TNF-${\alpha}$ mRNA expression and TNF-${\alpha}$ release induced by lipopholysaccharide (LPS) stimulation. Thus, this study was intended to explore the role of nicotine pretreatment to inhibit the expressions of TNF-${\alpha}$ mRNA in human fetal astrocytes (HFA) stimulated with IL-$1{\beta}$. The results are as follows: HFA were pretreated with 0.1, 1, and $10{\mu}g/mL$ of nicotine and then stimulated with IL-$1{\beta}$ (100 pg/mL) for 2h. The inhibitory effect of nicotine on expressions of TNF-${\alpha}$ mRNA in HFA with pretreated $0.1{\mu}g/mL$ of nicotine was first noted at 8hr, and the inhibitory effect was maximal at 12 h. The inhibitory effect at $1{\mu}g/mL$ of nicotine was inhibited maximal at 24 h. Cytotoxic effects of nicotine were noted above $10{\mu}g/mL$ of nicotine. Moreover, Nicotine at 0.1, 1 and $10{\mu}g/mL$concentrations significantly inhibited IL-$1{\beta}$-induced TF-${\kappa}B$ activation. Collectively, these results indicate that in activated HFA, nicotine may inhibit the expression of TNF-${\alpha}$ mRNA through the pathway which suppresses the NF-${\kappa}B$ activation. This study suggests that nicotine might be neuroprotective to dopaminergic neurons in the SN and reduce the incidences of PD.

  • The present study was conducted to obtain information on the effects of amitraz on reproductive and developmental parameters in rats. The test chemical was administered via the drinking water containing 0, 40, 120, and 360 ppm to male rats from 2 weeks before mating to the end of 14-day mating period and to females from 2 weeks before mating, throughout mating, gestation and up to lactational day 4. During the study period, clinical signs, body weights, food intake, organ weights, reproductive and littering findings, necropsy findings, sperm parameters, and histopathology were examined. At 360 ppm, decreases in the body weight gain, food consumption, and the number of live pups and an increase in the post-implantation loss were observed. In addition, decreases in the seminal vesicle weight and sperm motility were found in males. At 120 ppm, a decrease in the food consumption was found transiently in both males and females, but no reproductive and developmental toxicity was observed in both sexes. There were no signs of either general or reproductive and developmental toxicity in the 40 ppm group. Based on these results, it was concluded that the repeated oral administration of amitraz to rats resulted in a decrease in the food consumption at 120 ppm and decreases in the seminal vesicle weight, sperm motility, and the number of live pups and an increase in the post-implantation loss at 360 ppm in rats. Under these experimental conditions, the no-observed-adverse-effect level (NOAEL) of amitraz for general and reproduction/developmental toxicity was believed to be 120 ppm, and the no-observed-effect level (NOEL) of amitraz was believed to be 40 ppm in rats.

  • This study was carried out to assess the distribution and pollution level of organic matters and nutrients in surface sediments of the Yeongsan River Basin. The surface sediments were collected from the mainstream (12) and tributaries sites (4) for two years from 2015 to 2016, and the particle sizes, organic matters (Ignition Loss, COD, TOC) and nutrients (TN, TP, SRP) were analyzed. The distribution of particle sizes was dominated by sand in the upstream sites (MS1-MS7) and by silt loam in the downstream sites (MS8-MS12), but MS3 and MS6, located slightly upstream of the two weirs, were found to be mostly loamy sand and silt loam, respectively. As a results of the correlation assessment, the organic matters (IL, COD, TOC) were strongly correlated with particle sizes, while the nutrients (TP, SRP) were weak except for TN. The concentrations of organic matter and nutrient were higher at the downstream and the sites nearby the two weirs (MS3, MS6). In particular, the TP concentration at the MS3 site sampled in the second half period of the years was higher than that in the first half periods. Comparing of sediments criteria, the organic matters and nutrients were evaluated to have almost no toxic effects at all sites.
