A series of unconfined compression tests were carried out firstly to investigate mechanical behaviors of Lightweight Foamed Soil (LWFS) which is composed of dredged soils, cement and air foam. And secondly, to compare the difference of mechanical characteristic of LWFS with previous research conclusions (Yoon & Kim,2004) by using different dredged soils sampled at Joong-Ma in Gwangyang harbor area. Based on numberous laboratory experiments, it was found that deformation coefficient $(E_{50})$ of LWFS increases with increasing cement contents but decreases with increasing initial water contents of dredged soils. Appropriate regression formula (normalizing factor scheme) which considers relationship between LWFS composing elements, initial water contents of dredged soils, cement, air foam, and uniaxial compression strength or LWFS is proposed for practical applications. Finally, it was clear that, to apply LWFS method to practical projects, certain laboratory test would be necessary to take considerations of soil locality because mechanical charac-teristics of LWFS were surely dependent upon their sampled locations and properties.
Construction development and greenhouse gas emissions have globally required a strategic management to take some steps to stain and maintain the environment. Nowadays, recycled aggregates, in particular ceramic waste, have been widely used in concrete structures due to the economic and environmentally friendly solution, requiring the knowledge of recycled concrete. Also, one of the materials used as a substitute for concrete cement is wollastonite mineral to decrease carbon dioxide (CO2) from the cement production process by reducing the concrete consumption in concrete. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of wollastonite on the mechanical properties and durability of conventional composite concrete, containing recycled aggregates such as compressive strength, tensile strength (Brazilian test), and durability to acidic environment. On the other hand, in order to determine the strength and durability of the concrete, 5 mixing designs including different wollastonite values and recovered aggregates including constant values have been compared to the water - cement ratio (w/c) constant in all designs. The experimental results have shown that design 5 (containing 40% wollastonite) shows only 6.1% decrease in compressive strength and 4.9% decrease in tensile strength compared to the control plane. Consequently, the use of wollastonite powder to the manufacturing of conventional structural concrete containing recycled ceramic aggregates, in addition to improving some of the properties of concrete are environmentally friendly solutions, providing natural recycling of materials.

This study aims to obtain technical data for improvement of utilization of Blast Furnace Slag(BFS), recycled aggregate in the future by complementing fundamental problems of BFS such as manifestation of initial strength and excessive alkali quantity as well as weakness of recycled fine aggregate through manufacturing of recycled fine aggregate mortar using BFS. The recycled aggregate includes the cement paste hardened as the surface and the type of the aggregate, which contains plenty of calcium hydroxide($Ca(OH)_2$) as well as the unhydrated cement. Accordingly, the objectives of this study are to inspect the manufacturing the recycled fine aggregate mortar used with blast furnace slag, to consider the effects of the recycled aggregate on the strength development of ground granulated blast furnace slag, and then to acquire the technical data to take into consideration the further usages of the recycled aggregate and blast furnace slag. In eluted ions from recycled aggregate, it showed that there were natrium($Na^+$) and kalium($K^+$), expected to be flown out of unhydrated cement, as well as calcium hydroxide($Ca(OH)_2$). Application of this water to mix cement mortar with ground granulated blast furnace slag was observed to expedite hydration as calcium hydroxide($Ca(OH)_2$) and unhydrated cement component were expressed to give stimuli effects on ground granulated blast furnace slag. The results of the experiment show that the recycled aggregate mixed with blast furnace slag has comparatively higher hydration activity in 7 day than the mortar not mixed with one in 3 day mortar does, causing the calcium hydroxide in the recycled fine aggregate to work on as a stimulus to the hydration of ground granulated blast furnace slag.

We have many environmental problems by the polluted materials as a results of mechanical development these days. So people want to use building products made from natural things and take a good effect for people from those bio products. We can instance electron wave shelding, far infrared ray and anion emission, and anti-bacterial property as the latest trend of the bio building material. So we had a experiment to investigate how much bio materials affect concrete when we use in the concrete with cement substitution. We tested slump, 7days compressive strength, and air contents for physical properties of bio concrete. The result is that bio concretes with four bio ingredients have proper values comparing with target values for slump and air content but lower compressive strength than plain concrete.

The restorative materials for deteriorated concrete are estimated by various kinds of strength, carbonation, and at same time, by various deteriorate factors and others. So, it's properties must have maintained many functional properties. In this study, to improvement of durability of restorative materials, we take restorative materials with insulation performance, for deterioration by temperature exchange as deterioration factor.
We present in this work a coupled phenomenological chemo-mechanical model that represents the degradation of concrete-like materials. The chemical behaviour is described by the nowadays well known simplified calcium leaching approach. And the mechanical damage behaviour is described by a continuum damage model which involves the gradient of the damage quantity. The coupled nonlinear problem at hand is addressed within the context of the finite element method. For the equation governing the calcium dissolution-diffusion part of the problem, special care is taken to treat the highly nonlinear calcium conductivity and solid calcium functions. The algorithmic design is based on a Newton-type iterative scheme where use is made of a recently proposed relaxed linearization procedure. And for the equation governing the damage part of the problem, an augmented Lagrangian formulation is used to take into account the damage irreversibility constraint. Finally, numerical simulations are compared with experimental results on cement paste.

The purpose of this work is to investigate the seismic behavior of St. Titus Church in Heraklion, Crete, Greece as well as the need of its seismic retrofitting. A numerical model of the Church is constructed using shell finite elements and it is then seismically examined using response spectrum and linear time-history analyses. Effects of soil-structure interaction have been also taken into account. The Church without retrofit is expected to exhibit extensive tensile failures and many compressive ones. Aiming to maintain the architectural character of the structure as well as to increase its seismic resistance, a retrofitting procedure involving injection of cement grout in conjunction with reinforced concrete jacketing to the internal side of the masonry walls is proposed. A numerical implementation of the proposed seismic retrofitting is performed and its effect is evaluated by response spectrum and linear time-history analyses. From the results of these analyses, it is shown that compressive failures are eliminated while only few tensile failures of local character take place.

The heat of hydration of cement the causes the internal temperature rise at early age, particulary in massive concrete structures such as a mat-slab of nuclear reactor building or a dam or a large footing. As the result of the temperature rise and restraint of foundation, the thermal stress enough to induce concrete cracks can occur. Therefore, the prediction of the thermal stress is very important in the design and construction stages in order to control the cracks developed in massive concrete structures. And, more creep and shrinkage take place at elevated temperatures in young concrete, Thus the effect of creep and shrinkage must be considered for checking the safety and servicebility(crack, durability and leakage).
In the present paper, a numerical simulation method based on mesoscopic composite structure of concrete, the truss network model, is developed to evaluate the diffusivity of concrete in order to account for the microstructure of concrete, the binding effect of chloride ions and the chloride concentration dependence. In the model, concrete is described as a three-phase composite, consisting of mortar, coarse aggregates and the interfacial transition zones (ITZs) between them. The advantage of the current model is that it can easily represent the movement of mass (e.g. water or chloride ions) through ITZs or the potential cracks within concrete. An analytical method to estimate the chloride diffusivity of mortar and ITZ, which are both treated as homogenious materials in the model, is introduced in terms of water-to-cement ratio (w/c) and sand volume fraction. Using the newly developed approaches, the effect of cracking of concrete on chloride diffusion is reflected by means of the similar process as that in the test. The results of calculation give close match with experimental observations. Furthermore, with consideration of the binding capacity of chloride ions to cement paste and the concentration dependence for diffusivity, the one-dimensional nonlinear diffusion equation is established, as well as its finite difference form in terms of the truss network model. A series of numerical analysises performed on the model find that the chloride diffusion is substantially influenced by the binding capacity and concentration dependence, which is same as that revealed in some experimental investigations. This indicates the necessity to take into account the binding capacity and chloride concentration dependence in the durability analysis and service life prediction of concrete structures.
Korea is one of the few OECD countries having no binding Greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction obligations under the Kyoto Protocol. Korea is going to enforce a powerful greenhouse gas emissions control to the industry from 2015. Current GHG reduction policies do not take into account the trade-off between economic growth and GHG mitigation, this approach will not be sustainable. Sectoral approach, considering industry by industry may be more eco-friend approach. This study verified the validity of the analysis results counted from whole procedure of energy input-output analysis and decomposition analysis to sector 'Organic basic chemical products' and 'Cement and concrete products'. Empirical test was performed using changes in energy consumption, production, process improvements and new facilities. Although the results showed unstable fluctuations from Divisia index decomposition analysis, it was verified that the entire procedure can provide a clue in understanding of the industry's energy and GHG footprint.
