  • The setting and hardening of concrete is accompanied with nonlinear temperature distribution caused by development of hydration heat of cement. Especially at early ages, this nonlinear distribution has a large influence on the crack evolution. As a result, in order to predict the exact temperature history in concrete structures it is required to examine thermal properties of concrete. In this study, the coefficient of air convection, which presents thermal transfer between surface of concrete and air, was experimentally investigated with variables such as velocity of wind and types of form. From experimental results, the coefficient of air convection was calculated using equations of thermal equilibrium. Finally, the prediction model for equivalent coefficient of air convection including effects of velocity of wind and types of form was theoretically proposed. The coefficient of air convection in the proposed model increases with velocity of wind, and its dependance on wind velocity is varied with types of form. This tendency is due to a combined heat transfer system of conduction through form and convection to air. From comparison with experimental results, the coefficient of air convection by this model was well agreed with those by experimental results.

  • This paper investigated the possibility of appling to concrete through fundamental experiment for garnet, which was industrial wastes generated in kyung pook region, in aspects of development of new materials and recycling of industrial wastes due to shortage of natural resources. Consequently, garnet powder showed the possibility of admixture as showed in the chemical composition because the content of silica and alumina in relation to pozzolanic activity was about 50%. The time of setting was more or less diminished as the increasing of replacement ratio of garnet. In flow test, flow values tended to increase to some degree as the increasing of replacement ratio of garnet. Therefore, application of garnet was expected to improve the workability of concrete. The compressive strength of mortar replaced by garnet was respectively increased as compared with plain mortar and the maximum strength was showed in replaced by 10%, however a little different to the change of W/B ratio. Also, the possibility of admixture to reduce the amount of cement and to improve the property of concrete was showed as the strength of mortar replaced by garnet was comparable to that by existing admixture(silica fume, fly-ash).

  • Rather than causing damage from heat, blast, and radiation of a regular nuclear weapon, recently, it is predicted that North Korea has been inventing high altitude electromagnetic pulse (HEMP) missile in order to incapacitate electronic equipment. HEMP shielding facility is used for military purpose today. Despite the electromagnetic shielding effects from high quality compression plates, problems may include such as the possibility of electromagnetic influx resulting in the welding of the compression plates, and difficulties and high cost of construction. Therefore, in this study, a high electrical conducting material was added to the concrete experimental subject to ensure the shielding effect through electromagnetic waves to for the concrete structure, instead of building a shielding facility separately for the structure. Also, among the experimental subjects, 100 ${\mu}m$ of Iron-Aluminum alloy metal spraying coat was applied to two types with the highest shielding effect, and to two types with the lowest shielding effect. The result of the experiment indicates that experimental subjects added with a high electrical conductivity material did not meet the minimum shielding criteria of MIL-STD-118-125-1 standard, but all the experimental material applied to the metal spraying coating satisfied the minimum shielding criteria. In conclusion, it is considered that 100 µm of Iron-Aluminum alloy metal spraying coat contains high efficiency in the HEMP shielding.

  • Steel slag is being recycled into industrial by-products for civil generated inevitably in the seasonal course, road and cement raw materials. However, the field of recycling most of the bottom portion is concentrated in the areas that are required to take advantage of the situation in various fields taking advantage of the steel slag. But various studies to take advantage of the steel slag as aggregate for concrete made for limiting slag was a situation that most of the studies are incomplete research on the suitability of as aggregate for concrete practical relates to an expandable suppressed. In this study, the separation of the slag aggregate according to the production methods to assess the feasibility aggregate for concrete aggregates, including through Steel making slag, a total of seven kinds of steel slag aggregate. Studies show that ordinary concrete, steel slag aggregate for aggregate and on the equally to take advantage of grading, chloride content standards such as to what is lacking, although appropriate aggregate of concrete include the deployment of only in special sectors through the combination was assessed to have a very high.

  • The present study assessed the amount of $CO_2$ uptake owing to concrete carbonation through a case study for an apartment building with a principal wall system and an office building with Rahmen system under different exposed environments during use phase and recycling application. The $CO_2$ uptake assessment owing to concrete carbonation followed the procedure established by Yang et al. As input data necessary for the case study, actual surveys conducted in 2012 in Korea, which included data about the climate environments, $CO_2$ concentration, lifecycle inventory database, life expectancy of structures, and recycling activity scenario, were used. From the comparisons with the $CO_2$ emissions from concrete production, the $CO_2$ uptake during the lifetime of structures was estimated to be 5.5~5.7% and that during recycling activity after demolition was 10~12%; as a result, the amount of $CO_2$ uptake owing to concrete carbonation can be estimated to be 15.5~17% of the $CO_2$ emissions from concrete production, which roughly corresponds to 18-21% of the $CO_2$emissions from cement production as well.

  • This study was achieved experiment to evaluate effect on fluidity and strength development ratio by slag replacement ratio to $40{\sim}100MPa$ HSC(High Strength Concrete) containing blast furnace slag(GGBS) and fly-ash(FA). Also it was suggested that most suitable replacement ratio of GGBS is effect by strength. The mix plan of concrete used in an experiment was used to the GGBS replacement ratio of 0, 12, 25% as the cement materials, and fly ash was used equally by replacement ratio 15%. According to test results, for use GGBS with fly ash as binder, slump of GGBS replacement ratio 25% is the most superior in 40MPa series, and appeared by thing which slump flow of GGBS 12% is the most superior in 60, 80MPa's series. The other side, was expressed that fluidity is excellent by FA replacement ratio 15% in 100MPa series. In the case of compressive strength 40MPa, it was exposed that the strength revelation is effect in until the GGBS principal parts ratio increases by replacement ratio 25%. Also, it was exposed that GGBS mixing ratio more than replacement ratio 25% is not since fitness in high strength concrete more than 100MPa.

  • This paper was performed to evaluate the properties of no-coarse lightweight concrete using perlite and expanded polystyrene bead on fine aggregate. The results were shown that w/c and unit weight was affected by absorption ratio and unit weight of using aggregate itself. The compressive strength of no-coarse lightweight concrete was showed $187kgf/cm^2$ by using natural sand, $170kgf/cm^2$ by using perlite. Tensile and bending strength were showed the same tendency of compressive strength, but when expanded polystyrene bead concrete dose not have strength nearly. The pulse velocity and static modulus of elasticity of no-coarse lightweight concrete were smaller than that of normal cement concrete. And stress-strain curves were shown that was increased with increase of stress, and when the stress-strain curve using expanded polystyrene bead was repeated at short intervals increase and decrease irregularly.

  • Normally coating is used a method for protecting reinforced concrete. For this purpose, organic as well as inorganic coatings are used. The advantages of inorganic coatings are lower absorption of UV, non-burning etc. On the other hand, organic coatings have the advantage of low permeability of $CO_2$, $SO_2$ and water. Organic coatings provide better protection for reinforced concrete. However, in organic coatings such as epoxy, urethane and acryl, long-term adhesive strength is reduced and the formed membrane of those is blistered by various causes. Also when organic coatings are applied to the wet surface of concrete, they have a problem with adhesion. So, we developed coating material, WGS-Eco which was hybridized with polymer and cement based material to protect concrete structures and solve problems of organic coatings. This study was conducted an comparative evaluation on physical and durable performance of developed coating material and previously used coating materials. As a result, the performance of developed coating material was not inferior to organic coating materials. So, the developed coating material was considered as a suitable coating material which had advantages of inorganic and organic coatings for protecting concrete.
